This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who tested a mattress from the the Hilary Devey Collection

More info and details here: www.hilarydeveycollection.co.uk/ - either a Diamond or Diamond Luxe Mattress have been put to the test!

Non testers, to be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice, please answer the following question: What are your best tips for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Here’s what Duvalay have to say “With over a third of our lives spent sleeping, picking the right mattress is an important factor in making sure you get a good night’s sleep. In an era of mass-production, turning to a handcrafted mattress can be a way of ensuring you don’t suffer from aches and pains after an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Combining traditional handcrafted bed-making techniques with the finest raw materials and innovation, the Hilary Devey Collection is a premium range of hand-made mattresses. Each one is produced from Duvalay’s new Yorkshire factory, which the company moved into a year ago, quadrupling floor space to keep up for the demand for Duvalay products. With Hilary (ex Dragons Den) at the forefront of the design of the collection, personally selecting key features and materials, the collection brings a fresh take to a male-dominated industry by providing affordable luxury with a glamorous edge”.

“The Diamond is a supreme quality mattress that features 2000 individually nested pocket springs. With a summer and winter side, it provides you with a good night’s sleep all year round thanks to its cotton side for summer, which wicks moisture away and a wool side for winter that provides a snug-like effect - furthermore it has been Tried and Tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute.

The Diamond-Luxe takes all the best elements of the Diamond mattress, including luxurious materials and hand side-stitched borders, and features a range of new elements that further add to its glamorous take on the perfect night’s sleep. It’s also one of the first mattresses to the UK market that offers both an ingenious new pocket spring called MidasTouch and a revolutionary new filling called Wooltec®. MidasTouch is a unique spring system that has been specially designed to offer initial softness but also provides much needed support once weight has been applied. Each spring is encased in its own fabric pocket, to actively reduce partner disturbance for a relaxing night’s sleep.
The Wooltec® filling is produced using one of nature’s finest materials, lambswool, and uses the latest is modern manufacturing techniques to create vertically bonded fibres, which allows air to circulate much more easily for greater temperature control. The specially bonded fibres also increase durability and comfort.

Testers, please answer the following questions:

First impressions - please share these - on delivery, comfort on first night, look on your existing bed frame, feel of the mattress cover - do share a photo on the thread if you can. We will add more questions to this thread later on.

Second batch of questions - to reflect on your reasons for taking part and your initial views of the new mattress.

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
What is important to you when decided on a new mattress?
How important is it to have natural fillings inside your mattress?
How important is it for your mattress to be British manufactured?
On first impressions, do you think anything could be improved?
So far, do you think that your new mattress will improve the quality of your sleep and if yes, why?
Does Hilary Devey’s endorsement and influence on the collection have any impact on your perception of the collection?

Third lot of questions - now that you’ve had four weeks use of your mattress, we’d like you to answer a few more questions.

Are you finding your bed comfortable?
Has it improved sleep quality for you and your partner?
So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Before having a Hilary Devey bed, did you know the features a handmade mattress offered? Are you now able to tell a difference?
Did you read the care instructions and are you happy with the guarantee given?

Now that you’ve had a little bit longer, please finish your testing with us by answering the following:

~ Are you still as satisfied with your bed (if applicable) as you were at the beginning of your journey with Duavay?
~ Have you found that the handmade finishes to your bed have made a difference to the quality of your sleep?
~ If you were to buy a bed again in the future, would you purchase handmade over mass produce?
~ If you were to buy a bed again in the future, would you consider buying a Duvalay mattress?
~ Do you think your Hilary Devey bed is value for money?
~ How important is it to have a summer and winter side to your mattress to keep you warm & cool in both season? Please number 1-10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
~ Would you recommend the brand to your family and friends?

Non-tester

Silicone ear plugs, an eye mask and black out blinds.
If that does not work, in-ear headphones and some soothing music or audio book.

pfcpompeysarah · 23/07/2017 21:49

Non Tester - No lights from electrical appliances, blackout blinds, an alarm clock that doesn't annoyingly tick, fresh clean bedsheets & an early night after a bath.

lhlee62 · 23/07/2017 21:53

Non tester- get a decent bed, we have a memory foam one and I've never had any problems getting to sleep. My hubby suffers from insomnia and he hasn't had as many issues. I also say get as big as bed as possible especially if kids are going to be a factor, I didn't co-sleep, but it is handy for the Saturday mornings when they both want to pile in.

emmmaaa26 · 23/07/2017 21:59

No phones or laptops half an hour before bed, a very dark room and a comfy bed.

Spices001 · 23/07/2017 22:35

Non Tester

No electronics an hour before bed, lavender spray & foot cream to cool my feet- I always have hot feet?!

raspberryblush23 · 23/07/2017 22:55

Non tester here. Tips for a good nights sleep are: avoid screen time for up to an hour before bed so you can wind down, a bath/shower, clean jammies and into some nice clean bedding.

Funkyferret · 23/07/2017 23:23

Non tester: A cool room and quality bedding (featherlight in summer, cosier in winter). And get pillows that are comfy for you. I've good quality pillows but just don't get on with them so need to start looking around again.

cwalliss82 · 24/07/2017 05:25

Non-Tester: Winding down before bedtime and having no electronics in the bedroom. Lights off and sleep time.

devito92 · 24/07/2017 09:22

A peaceful uncluttered room is always important. A bed is an investment for years and the best place to be at the end of a rough day/week

kamaxtra · 24/07/2017 11:24

A comfortable temperature, as few clothes as possible (it's just less restrictive that way!), fluffy, large pillows and lavender pillow spray (I use it nightly). Happy sleeping!

My top tips for a good nights sleep are not staying up too late, having a relaxing bath and a cup of Chamomile tea before settling down with a good book. I usually last about 10 sentences before i'm nodding off!

keshimonster · 24/07/2017 11:28

Keep the window open slightly

julieef · 24/07/2017 12:09

I like fresh cotton sheets, I always use olbas oil on the pillow it helps keep the nasal passage clear

bubbleybooboo · 24/07/2017 12:20

A nice relaxing bath, lavender sleep mist on the bed and i like to read some of my book before i go to sleep

I also like to make sure the bedroom is lovely and cool as i cant sleep when im too hot so a window being open or a fan on helps

jandoc · 24/07/2017 12:35

non tester. i don't think there's a magic cure, sometimes you can't sleep even when you want to and sometimes you have a great sleep when you weren't even tired

HELENSCRESCENT · 24/07/2017 14:32

Non tester

Make sure the room is cool and aired and my best night sleep is when the sheets have just been changed.

UpOnDown · 24/07/2017 14:44

Non-tester: For me it's about allowing enough wind-down time before going to bed.

angiehoggett · 24/07/2017 14:49

Non-tester - my tip is to make sure your bedroom is a calm, soothing and relaxing place to be, no TV's or ipads, a cool temperature, soft fabrics and a comfortable mattress.

MummyBtothree · 24/07/2017 15:16

Non-Tester = sleeping with the fan on low in the bedroom all year round & using drops of lavender essential oil on my pillow every night has definitely helped me to sleep.

HoneyDragon · 24/07/2017 15:19

Non tester: no caffeine after 3pm. The biggest difference I found was when I gave up alcohol altogether. I need less sleep but sleep better since my gave up.Smile

Cailin7 · 24/07/2017 16:01

Comfortable bed, fresh sheets and dark room helps. However although I sleep sound most nights my sleep pattern is inconsistent. Some nights I just cannot get to sleep, so I am reading these and hoping for some tips

LeeR1985 · 24/07/2017 16:30

Non tester.
My secret to a good nights sleep which isn't much of a secret is clean sheets, black out blinds/curtains and some classical music to help you drift to sleep. Works wonders for me

user1496053440 · 24/07/2017 19:07

Non-tester - my tip for a good night's sleep is to turn off your phone at least half an hour beforehand and do something that doesn't involve you looking at a screen (e.g. reading) during that time

sofieellis · 24/07/2017 19:26

My husband's snoring is terrible, so the only way I get a good night's sleep is separate beds!

honeyandginger48 · 24/07/2017 20:29

I love bed! I have a lovely comfy mattress topper, blackout curtains to block out the light, cotton bedding to keep cool and spray my pillow with a lavender pillow spray to help me sleep. I recently bought a lumie bedside light that slowly fades which is great for falling asleep too.
