This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who tested a mattress from the the Hilary Devey Collection

More info and details here: www.hilarydeveycollection.co.uk/ - either a Diamond or Diamond Luxe Mattress have been put to the test!

Non testers, to be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice, please answer the following question: What are your best tips for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Here’s what Duvalay have to say “With over a third of our lives spent sleeping, picking the right mattress is an important factor in making sure you get a good night’s sleep. In an era of mass-production, turning to a handcrafted mattress can be a way of ensuring you don’t suffer from aches and pains after an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Combining traditional handcrafted bed-making techniques with the finest raw materials and innovation, the Hilary Devey Collection is a premium range of hand-made mattresses. Each one is produced from Duvalay’s new Yorkshire factory, which the company moved into a year ago, quadrupling floor space to keep up for the demand for Duvalay products. With Hilary (ex Dragons Den) at the forefront of the design of the collection, personally selecting key features and materials, the collection brings a fresh take to a male-dominated industry by providing affordable luxury with a glamorous edge”.

“The Diamond is a supreme quality mattress that features 2000 individually nested pocket springs. With a summer and winter side, it provides you with a good night’s sleep all year round thanks to its cotton side for summer, which wicks moisture away and a wool side for winter that provides a snug-like effect - furthermore it has been Tried and Tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute.

The Diamond-Luxe takes all the best elements of the Diamond mattress, including luxurious materials and hand side-stitched borders, and features a range of new elements that further add to its glamorous take on the perfect night’s sleep. It’s also one of the first mattresses to the UK market that offers both an ingenious new pocket spring called MidasTouch and a revolutionary new filling called Wooltec®. MidasTouch is a unique spring system that has been specially designed to offer initial softness but also provides much needed support once weight has been applied. Each spring is encased in its own fabric pocket, to actively reduce partner disturbance for a relaxing night’s sleep.
The Wooltec® filling is produced using one of nature’s finest materials, lambswool, and uses the latest is modern manufacturing techniques to create vertically bonded fibres, which allows air to circulate much more easily for greater temperature control. The specially bonded fibres also increase durability and comfort.

How important is it for your mattress to be British manufactured?
On first impressions, do you think anything could be improved?

Does Hilary Devey’s endorsement and influence on the collection have any impact on your perception of the collection?

Third lot of questions - now that you’ve had four weeks use of your mattress, we’d like you to answer a few more questions.

Are you finding your bed comfortable?
Has it improved sleep quality for you and your partner?
So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Before having a Hilary Devey bed, did you know the features a handmade mattress offered? Are you now able to tell a difference?
Did you read the care instructions and are you happy with the guarantee given?

~ Have you found that the handmade finishes to your bed have made a difference to the quality of your sleep?

~ Do you think your Hilary Devey bed is value for money?
~ How important is it to have a summer and winter side to your mattress to keep you warm & cool in both season? Please number 1-10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.

Don't drink alcohol if you want a good nights sleep!

mummymummums · 26/07/2017 21:15

I get a good night of sleep if I have the window open and lots of fresh air, whatever the weather. I sleep my best outdoors in a tent when camping!
I don't sleep so well after alcohol.

I put my wax melter on with a calming fragrance before bed

JayJay1874 · 27/07/2017 10:42

temperature is the main one for me. I like to try to have my room cold. You'll easier warm up under the duvet in a cold room than stay cool in a warm room.

I used to have a chill pillow (foam that you filled with water that soaked into the foam). You could put it in the fridge to cool then slip it into your pillow case on top of your power. Kept your head nice and cool as you fell asleed. Good... until it started leaking.

Now i have air con which makes a big difference.

FridgeCut · 27/07/2017 11:00

My bedroom has to be cold for a good night's sleep, we have a very low tog duvet all year and then blankets that can be added or dumped off over winter.

The children being at Nanny's also helps..

peronel · 27/07/2017 11:03

Best Tips: Have a relaxing bath before bed. I have found that using a vicks nasal stick helps me to sleep more soundly.Hmm

daniel1996 · 27/07/2017 12:01

non tester. For me it is all about the few hours before bed, no caffeine, no internet, turn the volume lower on the TV, and try not to overthink what has happened during the day. Finally a comfy bed, and plump pillows.

What are your best tips for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Ensure children, husband and all other sources of noise are as far away as possible!

JS06 · 27/07/2017 13:56

The best way to get a good night's sleep for me is to have the window open so that you can actually feel the tingle of a breeze, that keeps the air fresh and chilled. Then I make sure that even though I have the mobile phone in the bedroom to charge it is not near me so I'm not tempted to look at it and become fully 'conscious' if I stir in the night.

gin33333 · 27/07/2017 17:56

Non Tester a hot bath with lavender bubbles relaxes me before bedtime to ensure I get a peaceful night's sleep

Doublemint · 27/07/2017 19:32

Have two children under the age of two. Never have any problems falling asleep again!

jacqui5366 · 27/07/2017 19:39

Non-tester, I keep the window ajar all day to freshen the air, add a few drops of lavender oil on my pillow, and sink into my comfy bed and plump pillow.

dannydog1 · 27/07/2017 20:24

Read a few pages of a book and definitely have a blackout blind.

Sellins · 27/07/2017 20:44

Make sure the room is cool, dark and quiet. A cuddle from the cat helps

Topsyturvy01 · 27/07/2017 22:06

No gadgets before bedtime

selloveday · 27/07/2017 22:15

I try not to drink coffee or tea after 5pm. We also make the bedroom is cool and turn the radiators down in the winter.

What are your best tips for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Warm bath, clean sheets, open window, relaxation cd on sleep mode

ElizaW922 · 28/07/2017 01:37

Having a routine, doing some yoga and stretches to wind down before sleep - not watching anything exciting on TV or listening to energetic music!

lottietiger · 28/07/2017 10:08

Non tester I prefer the room to be totally dark and the opposite of some here, not too cold. cool though but with extra blankets that I can start off with and throw off in the night. Screen time before bed definitely keeps me awake so apart from the odd occasion I keep off the I pad etc. A warm bath and or drink helps if im struggling to get to sleep.

farhanac · 28/07/2017 12:18

Don't do your online banking before bedtime

eightyeightmilesperhour · 28/07/2017 12:53

For me, it's freshly laundered sheets, fluffy plumped pillows, a comfy mattress, blackout curtains (so complete darkness) and a warm milky drink or glass of wine.

If I've been to the gym and am especially knackered, I'll have a shower and have the best sleep ever!

lorrainej162 · 28/07/2017 13:00

I like a cool room, small window open, cotton bed linen, and a hot chocolate drink.

laurac1987 · 28/07/2017 13:20

I am a non tester.

To me, getting a good nights sleep is all about the temperature being moderate and being a completely dark room with no distractions. I also love white noise which helps me to relax and wind down from the busy day. Good bedding and a luxury mattress are also a must.

Itsnothingoriginal · 28/07/2017 13:58

The right mattress is really important as we went for years with a knackered one which as soon it it was replaced, really improved the quality of our night's sleep. When you and your partner are of very different weights, pocket springs are definitely the way to go. Now I don't get woken up every time DH moves!!

melski1989 · 28/07/2017 16:04

I don't drink tea after about 8pm and come off my computer around an hour before I want to go to bed. I also need a completely dark room. My OH listens to music, seems to work for him.
