More info and details here: www.hilarydeveycollection.co.uk/ - either a Diamond or Diamond Luxe Mattress have been put to the test!

Non testers, to be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice, please answer the following question: What are your best tips for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Here’s what Duvalay have to say “With over a third of our lives spent sleeping, picking the right mattress is an important factor in making sure you get a good night’s sleep. In an era of mass-production, turning to a handcrafted mattress can be a way of ensuring you don’t suffer from aches and pains after an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Combining traditional handcrafted bed-making techniques with the finest raw materials and innovation, the Hilary Devey Collection is a premium range of hand-made mattresses. Each one is produced from Duvalay’s new Yorkshire factory, which the company moved into a year ago, quadrupling floor space to keep up for the demand for Duvalay products. With Hilary (ex Dragons Den) at the forefront of the design of the collection, personally selecting key features and materials, the collection brings a fresh take to a male-dominated industry by providing affordable luxury with a glamorous edge”.

“The Diamond is a supreme quality mattress that features 2000 individually nested pocket springs. With a summer and winter side, it provides you with a good night’s sleep all year round thanks to its cotton side for summer, which wicks moisture away and a wool side for winter that provides a snug-like effect - furthermore it has been Tried and Tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute.

The Diamond-Luxe takes all the best elements of the Diamond mattress, including luxurious materials and hand side-stitched borders, and features a range of new elements that further add to its glamorous take on the perfect night’s sleep. It’s also one of the first mattresses to the UK market that offers both an ingenious new pocket spring called MidasTouch and a revolutionary new filling called Wooltec®. MidasTouch is a unique spring system that has been specially designed to offer initial softness but also provides much needed support once weight has been applied. Each spring is encased in its own fabric pocket, to actively reduce partner disturbance for a relaxing night’s sleep.
The Wooltec® filling is produced using one of nature’s finest materials, lambswool, and uses the latest is modern manufacturing techniques to create vertically bonded fibres, which allows air to circulate much more easily for greater temperature control. The specially bonded fibres also increase durability and comfort.

Finally I can give my first impressions of our lovely new mattress. For background info, we spent months trying out mattresses to replace our 12 year old memory foam one. We thought we had found the one, but sadly it was just too firm for me and we had ended up sleeping in separate beds!
You can imagine how delighted I was to be selected to try the Duvalay Mattress. I chose the softer Diamond Luxe, due to the experience detailed above.

It arrived this afternoonand it appears very luxurious and wonderful quality. The outer cover is the best I have ever seen on any mattress. It seems very supportive of my back. We can't believe how deep it is in comparison to the one that we have just taken off, which was only 6 months old.
First impressions are first rate!

Having a good routine is great for a good night's sleep (in the same way it is for children). Turn off anything with screens (TV, phone, tablet...etc) at least half an hour before intending to go to sleep. I like to then have a milky drink and read a book.

bc1616 · 28/07/2017 21:41

Lavender oil on pillow, no tablet/phone in bedroom, eye mask

flamingtoaster · 28/07/2017 21:45

Non-tester. My tips for a good nights sleep are use blackout curtains and turn down/cover all sources of light - even the bedside clock/radio. Use relaxing breathing exercises - e.g. tongue on ridge behind top teeth, breathe in through your nose for a count of 4, hold for 7, breathe out through your mouth making a gentle whooshing sound. Repeat four times. I find listening to quiet classical music helps me drift off. If you waken during the night concentrate on thinking about pleasant things rather than getting upset you are awake - waking in the middle of the night and having two "sleeps" is quite normal according to recent research.

A warm bath, a cup of chamomile tea and bit of a read from my current book, helps to ensure a good night's sleep for me.

What are your best tips for ensuring a good nights sleep?
I spray lavender on my pillows, it is really calming and relaxing.
I need complete dark so we have very heavy thick curtains. If I'm away I take an eye mask and ear plugs. I quite like a monotone noise to fall asleep to, we have a fish tank and I like the noise the filter makes, it soothes me.

lolamia91 · 29/07/2017 00:36

A long hot bath and a book with camomile tea

zebedee01 · 29/07/2017 00:54

My tip is to always take time to wind down before bed! I find that is I don't do this I will lay awake for hours!

Go to sleep and wake up at the same time and get into a routine

A relaxing routine, a comfy mattress and pillow and peace and quiet - not always easy but I do try!

jt75 · 29/07/2017 08:28

No clutter in the bedroom. Window slightly open. Hot water bottle when it's cold. Good thick curtains.

freedomofspeech · 29/07/2017 08:35

A cup of camomile tea and no technology for half an hour

ladygoingGaga · 29/07/2017 08:53

Tips for a good nights sleep.
I like some fresh air in the bedroom, even just a little if it's cold outside, feels like the bedroom gets stale air otherwise.
If the bedroom is cooler I snuggle into bed more, and toss and turn a lot less.
I love fresh sheets and always seem to sleep better, more relaxed if they are freshly laundered.
Definitely no technology in the bedroom, no television or phones, just a good boook before bed helps me nod off - sometimes into the book itself Grin

allibaby · 29/07/2017 09:50

A walk before bedtime helps me get a good night sleep.
It doesn't have to be a long walk but the fresh air seems to help me sleep better.

grannybiker · 29/07/2017 09:59

Looking through for the perfect solution in my quest for a good night's sleep!
Lavender scents, no caffeine after midday, dark room at a comfortable temperature, warm bath, no screens, including lengthy phone calls with those who may wind you up!
Oh and alone is a definite winner!

BGcat14 · 29/07/2017 10:34

My tips are to turn your mobile phone face down if you have it on your bedside table, so the 'blue light' phones give out will not disturb you.
Plus try the Headspace app, it's great!

No late night meals and a milky drink does it for me zzzzz!

My best tip for a great night's kip are : get a super king sized bed, open windows in the summer and a hot water bottle with brushed cotton sheets in the winter. Also buy decent pillows and change them regularly.

staceymummyleigh · 29/07/2017 11:54

I think the key to a good nights sleep is reading a good book in bed! Helps clear your mind of anything negative! Also no Technology before bed leaves me unable to sleep :)

el2606 · 29/07/2017 12:26

My tip for a good nights sleep is to make sure the temperature of your room is right for you. For example, have a thick duvet in winter and a thin one in summer, have windows open in summer, etc. There is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night because you are too hot, or not being able to get to sleep in the first place because you are too hot/too cold!

kkhimji · 29/07/2017 12:44

Have a glass of hot water and lemon before bed, it really helps you sleep well and uninterrupted

I have suffered from insomnia for over 15 years. I've tried most things to get a good nights sleep but they do not seem to work for me. A couple of tips that do help a bit. If you wake up in the night do not look at the clock and do not put the light on to go to the toilet. By looking at the clock your mind goes into over drive thinking is that all the time is or I've got so much time until I officially have to get up. Your mind will then keep asking itself what time is it now. By putting the light on your body thinks it is time to get up and will not go back to sleep very easily.

pixelwife · 29/07/2017 13:24

We've tried to get rid of technology from the bedroom, charging our phones outside of the bedroom so we aren't awakened by any alerts and not watching TV in bed.

I also love a bubble bath before bed to help me relax and a great book helps settle my busy mind.

snare · 29/07/2017 14:25

go to bed at the same time each night - non tester

lottiegirl · 29/07/2017 14:48

fresh cotton linen always works for me so i change at least the pillowcases and top sheet every 2-3 days
