I'm a bit lazy and don't often wear foundation or a base layer, but sometimes use a BB cream. I really liked the high end look of the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. It was smaller than I expected but I have since discovered that a little goes a long way. I've never used a brush to apply foundation before, but was very keen to try it. I would have expected brush come in better packaging, as it didn't look as expensive the gel.

2 Did you spot an instant impact in terms of natural coverage, glow and hydration of your skin? Please describe the effect the product had in detail.

The first time I used it, I walked into my office and two people complimented me on my skin, asking if I had done something different. The coverage was perfect for me and was easily layered if needed. I loved the glow it gave me, and although I didn't find it very moisturising, it also wasn't dying like most foundations I have tried.

3 How easy was it to use this product in your regular makeup routine? Did you use it alone or layer with other products to create a fuller look? How did you find the brush?

I watched a couple of YouTube videos as I hadn't used a brush before. It was simple to add this in to my make up routine and easy to add a loose powder and concealer to my problem areas. The brush was super. Very good quality and a great size for even coverage.

4 Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Will you buy it again (RRP £27.00)?

Yes, in fact I have recommended it already and will be buying more once this trial one is finished. I think it's good value money and the compliments I'm still getting are making me feel great!

Thank you for picking me Brew

1 Your first impressions: are you a bareMinerals® fan already?
I do like Bare Minerals products and have used the mineral powder routine before but didn't stick with it due to the price and time taken to do it. My usual make up routine is very quick, I just use a moisturiser followed by Max Factor Facefinity compact, blusher and mascara. Takes 2 min. Have used this routine for over 10 years now though and starting to get stuck in a rut plus the wrinkles are starting to show more using a dry powder base.

What are your initial thoughts on the packaging, instructions, smell etc or the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream?
Packaging was quite simple but classy. Didn't seem to be any instructions that I could see. The smell was inoffensive and not very noticeable. Wasn't sure if it was a foundation or a bb/cc cream but I moisturised beforehand anyway and I think this worked well.

How did you find the brush? Have you used a brush to apply foundation before?

I used it at first without the brush as usually find you end up using more product using brushes as it gets lost into the brush. I did give it a go though and was impressed with the quality of the brush, it was soft and no bristles fell out. I think you definitely get a better finish with the brush than using fingers.

2 Did you spot an instant impact in terms of natural coverage, glow and hydration of your skin? Please describe the effect the product had in detail.
I liked the appearance of my skin after using this product. The coverage is very light although you can build it up with more product. I used Bare Minerals bisque powder concealer for any areas that needed extra coverage. The result was very natural and I was happy with the shade (birch) considering I had just guessed which one to go for. I find it hard usually this time of year to find a foundation that is not too pale or too orange and this was perfect. I had a definite glow which showed even after using loose powder (I don't like too much of a shiny look). My skin looked dewy and healthy and a lot younger!! I haven't had any dryness on my face since using, I usually get flaky patches around my nose but not since using this.

3 How easy was it to use this product in your regular makeup routine? Did you use it alone or layer with other products to create a fuller look? How did you find the brush?
This product was easy too use as it blends very easily, no orange tide marks around the chin here! It took a little longer than my previous routine but I think it is worth it and seems to last throughout the day a lot better. As mentioned earlier I used my usual moisturiser followed by this product. I then touched up any areas that needed extra coverage with Bare Minerals concealer. After that I finished off with Corn Silk loose powder to set the look. You could probably use Bare Minerals mineral veil instead but I find you have to use a lot and it's expensive.
The brush definitely improved the finish and looks more "soft focus" using it. It was a good quality soft brush and no bristles fell out.

4 Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Will you buy it again (RRP £27.00)?
I would recommend it to friends as it is a lovely product and I have been complimented on my skin whilst wearing it. I would buy it again but don't think I could justify using it every day for that price although it does seem to be lasting a long time so if the tube does last a while then it may be worth it.

Steph25x · 21/03/2017 04:02

Signed up for a sample, would love to give this a try especially after reading MNers reviews on this thread Grin

Starlightnight · 21/03/2017 18:34

My first impressions were really positive, I have never used a foundation brush before so was very intrigued by it. I liked the simple packaging and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the tube, it was bigger than I anticipated. I have never used Bare Minerals before and really looked forward to it when I saw the products.

I found the foundation brush really easy to use and am now converted I will always use one from here on in, the coverage that it gives is so even. there is no scent to the product and it is really easy to apply to give an even finish with the foundation brush.
On using the product the dryness that my skin has had recently has cleared up. I am on biologic infusions for my Crohns disease which has really dried my skin out and nothing else I have tried had worked.
The complexion rescue has soothed my dry skin and gives a really lovely coverage to give a nice even glow, people at work have commented that I am looking really well again. The look it gives is very natural so that you can't really tell that you are wearing foundation just that the skin tone is very even with a touch of glow.
The product fitted right in with my usual skin care routine and I have used it alone and dropped the powder foundation and loose powder. It doesn't make my skin oily so I have that I need less products to get the same coverage on my face. I found the brush very easy to use to create a natural look and I am not the most adventurous when it comes to trying new make up and accessories so am really pleased.
Yes I would recommend Complexion rescue to my friends especially if their skin needs some tlc and yes I will buy this product again, although expensive for a foundation I didn't need any powder with it so works out about the same price as my current make up. The colour match to my skin was also perfect, I am very pale skinned and had the opal 01 colour.
Thank you MN and Bare Minerals it has been a real boost to me to get my skin condition and glow back again.

bumblingmum · 23/03/2017 07:09

I would love to try a sample as it sounds amazing. I am looking for a new foundation. As may skin is changing due to age I am struggling to find something that suits my skin.
I am fair skinned, usually a pale beige skin type

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 23/03/2017 19:02

Update: after reading other reviews, I tried using powder to "set" the complexion rescue and it was awesome. I applied in the morning, taught all day and then did filming, didn't feel the need to reapply.

I've used this every week day since we were first sent the sample ( I guess around a month ago?!) And the tube is still going strong. I am definitely starting to look out for offers to replenish when mine runs out!

Bringmewineandcake · 24/03/2017 14:39

I rarely put makeup on when I'm at home, and only apply light foundation, blusher and lipgloss for work. I've not used bare minerals before and thought the packaging looked really upmarket. I didn't notice a particular smell to the product but found it really easy to apply. I've not used a brush before so it's taken a while to get used to how much product to use.

I didn't find the product hydrating at all. It didn't dry my skin out, but definitely didn't add any moisture either. I felt I had a bit too much sheen, particularly around the T zone. I tried doing a couple of layers which improved the coverage but gave more sheen.

Because of the sheen it didn't look particularly good layered with other make up. Possibly if I had any powder that might work well with this gel.

I wouldn't recommend this product simply because it didn't particularly work for me. I will continue to use the brush with the gel and my foundation as I like the effect it gives. I wouldn't buy the gel because I didn't find the coverage any better than my usual much cheaper BB cream.

I used to wear make up daily, but since becoming a mum I have barely touched the stuff. I had heard good things about bare minerals from several friends and so I was delighted to be selected for this trial. The packaging and brush were nice- what I expected really (though the hand written personalised note was a lovely touch!). I was very excited to give the stuff a try. I have used a brush before (body shop I think). This one is so much nicer. The smell is ok- I've not found a make up yet that has a smell I love, but this was fine.

2 Did you spot an instant impact in terms of natural coverage, glow and hydration of your skin? Please describe the effect the product had in detail.

I loved how this covered my skin and was impressed by the match to myself skin even though I shoes it online. I have dry skin on my forehead and so make up can highlight that some times by going a bit clumpy, but this looked great. Better yet, my forehead felt good the next day as though I had made an effort to moisturise it more than usual. My skin felt good. It gives a dewy appearance and as I have not worn make up in a while at first I felt a bit self conscious, but came to like it. Easy to put on with the brush and fast. I liked it and the effect it has on my skin- it seemed kind to my skin somehow.

3 How easy was it to use this product in your regular makeup routine? Did you use it alone or layer with other products to create a fuller look? How did you find the brush?

Loved the brush- I hate the feel of putting on make ok without it and it means you seem to need less make up I think, which would save money in the long term. It looks better I think. I wasn't wearing make up, but this was fast to apply. It looked good by itself- I just looked a bit more put together. It also worked to layer up. It looked and felt quite natural.

4 Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Will you buy it again (RRP £27.00)?

Yes I have already recommended it to someone who asked. I will buy it again and I am planning to try some more of the bare minerals range as I really like how the product looks and how it seemed to improve my skin. When gardening this morning (with no make up on) my neighbour said my skin looked great so I am sure it must be helping! Thanks for letting me take part.

I have used some bare minerals stuff before but only the powder, I've been generally impressed by it in the past but I do tend to save it for not work days because it takes a bit longer than my normal routine. Normally I would use a medium / full coverage foundation because I get some spots and a pressed powder to keep everything matte. For work I'd finish off with a bit of mascara and I try and keep my brows tinted. For special occasions I'd make a bit more effort!

I liked the complexion rescue when it arrived. Packaging was nice, cream had a nice consistency and smelled good. It felt nice to put on my skin, kind of cool and moisturising not drying like foundation can sometimes feel. The instructions puzzled me a bit because they didn't mention a brush but I've used a foundation brush before do just went with it. The brush itself was nice, about the right size for me and the bristles stayed put well.

2 Did you spot an instant impact in terms of natural coverage, glow and hydration of your skin? Please describe the effect the product had in detail.

The coverage was better than I thought it was going to be and it was definitely hydrating. I'm not so sure about glow, it was maybe too much glow for me as it left me feeling a bit shiny and I did need to add some powder. That said I do like to be matte and people did comment that my skin looked good when I used it without. Over the course of a week or so my skin did actually feel better and I did notice a difference in the drier areas around my forehead in particular.

3 How easy was it to use this product in your regular makeup routine? Did you use it alone or layer with other products to create a fuller look? How did you find the brush?

Very easy to use and the brush was good. As above I did sometimes add some powder to matte everything down a bit but some days it got used on its own. When using it on its own I found it pretty easy to build coverage where I needed to which was good.

4 Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Will you buy it again (RRP £27.00)?

I would tell people I liked it but for me it's a little expensive for what it is, I'd probably just use moisturiser and a fuller foundation. I can imagine it looking fabulous on some people though.

**1 Your first impressions: are you a bareMinerals® fan already? What’s your regular makeup routine? On What are your initial thoughts on the packaging, instructions, smell etc or the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream? How did you find the brush? Have you used a brush to apply foundation before?

I used to be a Bare Minerals fan when I was in my 20's, and used the original mineral makeup in the pots, but gradually stopped using it as I found it too powdery and settled into lines as I got older, plus it was too messy - once I had a baby a few years ago and then went back to work, I usually do my makeup on the train, so there was no chance of being able to use the original style makeup on a commute.

I was really excited to see that BM had diversified into other product styles, so was really delighted to be chosen to test this.
My usual makeup routine involves a lot of products, and I do tend to flit between products and brands, and am a bit of a beauty junkie. I use both very cheap stuff - e.g. Kiko, through to more expensive such as Chanel and Suqu. Basic routine is moisturiser, energising balm, eye cream, primer, foundation, concealer, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, mascara, lip pencil, lipstick, lip gloss/balm, blusher, bronzer. If going out, highlighter and eyeshadow too.

As it was so long between receiving the product and this thread becoming active, it's difficult to recall the packaging etc, but I do remember it was quite basic, and there wasn't much in the way of instructions, or really what the product was intended to do. Is it a tinted moisturiser, a BB cream or a moisturising foundation? In my eyes, it seems most closely aligned to a BB cream, this the category I'd put it in.
I quite liked the minimal packaging, and the actual tube looks sleek.
I was quite surprised by the fact that a brush was designed for this product, as I'd usually associate using a brush with a heavier foundation. Somehow the two jar, as the product seems to be more designed for the days when foundation isn't needed, a quick and easy fluid to sweep on with fingers, for a more relaxed look. I don't know, it just seemed wrong to use a chunky brush for such a fluid and light product. I've used a brush for foundation before, albeit not as chunky as this one.
Having said this, I did really like the brush once I started using it, but must admit that I've been using it more often with my heavier foundation than the BM. It does give a great effect.

**2. Did you notice an immediate impact in terms of coverage, glow and hydration of your skin?

As soon as i put it on, the product looked great - my skin was dewy and looked really fresh. However, after a few hours wear, my skin actually looked worse than when using my normal foundation or normal BB cream. It tended to crease into the wrinkles, accentuate lines, or just sort of settle on the skin, or look a bit 'waxy' and greasy.
The coverage was too light if I put a minimal amount on, but looked artificial, as above, if I put more on.
As for long terms effects, e.g. Hydration of skin over a few times/weeks of wearing, I didn't notice any difference, although I didn't wear it every single day due to not being able to get a suitable look from it. I'm not sure how hydrating a product can be anyway, that isn't being massaged in like a true moisturiser or serum.

  1. How easy was it to use this product alongside your usual makeup routine? Did you use alone or layer with other products for a fuller look? How did you find the brush?

I used this in place of my usual BB cream or foundation, but only on the days where I didn't have many spots (even at the age of nearly 40, I'm prone to these, especially round the chin), and when my skin was quite clear anyway. I would never wear it alone, as I always need concealer and bronzer on top.
I didn't change the rest of my routine pre using the this product, and maybe that's the problem - because I used three separate moisturising products beforehand - e.g. Moisturiser, balm, and primer, there was too much 'slippage' for the product to be really effective, and not enough colour to make a massive difference once the initial glow had worn off.
As above, I really liked the brush, but more to use with other products than this!

**4. Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Would you buy it again?

No, sorry, I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend it. I think it's expensive compared to other BB creams, which is what it is really. My usual cream is a fraction of this, and gives better coverage and hydration, and spf 50. I wish this had worked for me, but sadly not. Thanks for selecting me though!

Justtryingagain · 27/03/2017 16:57

My Husband bought me my first Bear Minerals. I have very poor skin and the Bear Minerals cover up the blemishes on my skin so I would have no hesitation of recommending Bare Minerals to friends.

I'd never used bare minerals before but loved this product. Regular make up routine does include foundation or a bb cream both applied with either a brush or fingers (depending on how much time I have)

2 Did you spot an instant impact in terms of natural coverage, glow and hydration of your skin? Please describe the effect the product had in detail.

Family noticed a difference in my skin after a couple of days using bare minerals. It made my skin look glowy and fresh.

3 How easy was it to use this product in your regular makeup routine? Did you use it alone or layer with other products to create a fuller look? How did you find the brush?

Easy peasy to slot into my daily routine. I used it on its own mostly. I liked the brush soft and easy to apply.

4 Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Will you buy it again (RRP £27.00)?
Yes I'd recommend. And would definetly buy again.

am testing this and so far am very impressed. It makes my skin look really fresh and glowing although I do need extra coverage so touched up with Nars Creamy Concealer. I probably wouldn't have inititally purchased this myself but will definitely not run out in the future. This has made me rethink how I do my make-up as I have always used full-coverage foundation which has probably aged me. I will have to use a fair amount of concealer but it's good to see actual skin where I still have the odd decent bit.
I like it so much that I went to Fenwicks and bought one for a friend's birthday.

I was picked by MNHQ to review this product/ service, which I received for free. This review is in my own words and reflects my true opinion.

Yes, I noticed my skin's moisture improved over a few days of using it. I found I didn't need to separately moisturise as much. I liked the coverage and it did give me a nice natural glow.

3 How easy was it to use this product in your regular makeup routine? Did you use it alone or layer with other products to create a fuller look? How did you find the brush?

I don't generally wear a lot of make up so this pretty much replaced my usual routine. I used it on it's own. I was new to using a brush to apply make up but I found it really worked with this product.

4 Would you recommend the Complexion Rescue™ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream to your friends? Will you buy it again (RRP £27.00)?

Yes I'd recommend it and yes I'd buy it again. It seems well worth the money.
