We asked 100 Mumsnetters with DCs over the age of 5 to try the new Fruit Drop service from Robinsons. They received a crate filled with three flavours of classic Robinsons Fruit Squash, as well as three varieties of Squash’d (portable packs of super-concentrated squash), to help encourage their families to drink more water.

Here’s what Robinsons has to say: “It may surprise you to know that 72% of 5-12 year olds and 85% of UK adults do not drink the recommended 8 glasses of fluid per day. That’s why Robinsons is piloting a new service to help families across the country refresh, recharge and reset with a hit of real fruit in their water. Delivered straight to their door, ‘Fruit Drop’ will be bringing in the UK’s favourite squash to homes across the country, helping families to enjoy more water with a variety of gulp-it-back real fruit flavour!”

Testers, please answer the following questions:

• Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
• Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
• Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
• Would you trial the service again? Why?
• If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
• If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?

Also, please do post pictures of your Fruit Drop crates and your family enjoying the challenge of drinking more water on this feedback thread and on your social media channels using the #enjoymorewater. It would be great if you could also tag one of the Robinsons accounts below.

All testers who leave their feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes, swapped about half my daily cups of tea for the squash, will keep it up
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Loved the lemon and pink grapefruit
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Very useful for family days out, could see it being handy in the summer when camping
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Loved the crate it came in, if the price was reasonable I'd definitely use
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Yes definitely
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be
Anything with raspberries I love them

Climbontoyourseahorse · 17/03/2017 08:41

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes DS2 especially liked the Squash'd purely for the novelty of squirting it into the water.
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes the peach was the favourite.
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
I don't think it really made that much difference because we still needed to take water with us
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Depending on the price compared to the supermarket, I would consider it, and DS2 loved the crate.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
I have mentioned it to some friends but I can't say if I would recommend it without knowing the price.
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Something with either cherries or blueberries.

McMumface · 17/03/2017 16:43

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes we all thought it was wonderful and are definitely drinking more water as a result...even the grandparents!
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
We loved the variety of flavours and our particular favourite was the Grapefruit and Lemon-so refreshing! Will be wonderful as a drink in the warmer months.
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
The Sqaush'd is so handy, I now keep one in my car and you don't need to use very much at all-a very good idea. Perfect for my children when running them to their after school activities. My husband now keeps one in his Golf bag too!
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
I would certainly trial again as the crate that arrived was wonderfully presented with a good variety of flavours included(the crate has now been 'shabby chic-ed' and is a fab storage box!).My young children love making their own Robinson's 'cocktails' by mixing the flavours and adding fresh fruit to them. It has certainly helped me to steer them away from wanting sugary drinks and they drink more water because of it.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
I have already recommended it to others and they indicated that they would try it too. My sister has already bought some for her 3 boys and they love it.
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
I would love something like elderflower and raspberry or maybe a mango based one.

SandyArse · 17/03/2017 18:05

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

Yes, initially although the novelty wore off slightly for DDs, better when i restricted the choice of flavours.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Absolutely but they take up a lot of room in our limited kitchen!
DH and i love the lemon and grapefruit - already planning summer afternoons in the garden with a big jug and ice. DDs hated it but adore the peach.
Their favourite was combining flavours but that got a bit strong.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yep - previously a hit when camping but hadn't thought about the handbag/ sports bag option, and great for avoiding the sugar/colour/caffeine/fizz options usually on offer (why do 'sports centres' do that??)

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

Only for the crate - smart and reusable.
Not for the drink - too many in one go and we have a car for supermarket shopping so i'm struggling to see the benefit of delivery.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Possibly if they have a big family/ no transport/ physical limitations/ new baby or like to have a wide choice to hand.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
My dds both immediately said strawberry.
DH wants lemon and lime.
I would love to try strawberry, mint and cucumber Wine
Enjoyed the trial, thank you 😊

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes. We enjoyed trying out the flavours and the squashd bottles were a big hit.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
The flavours had a mixed reception here with the DC enjoying the more traditional flavours. I really liked the Peach fruits and barley.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yes so handy to keep in the car or handbag and add a bit of flavour when out and about.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

Yes It was nice to try flavours that I would not have chosen otherwise and it gave a lot of choice. I really liked the presentation.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?

Maybe, again I'm not sure of the costs and it is quite easy to pick up Robinsons along with the shopping.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Not sure, I love raspberries so maybe raspberry and lemon or something.

I will post pictures soon, having technical difficulties with them.

runningwithbob · 17/03/2017 21:27

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
We really did! I used the squash as an incentive for my son to drink all of the water in the flask in his lunch box, if his water bottle came home with anything he left he wasn't allowed any squash until it was finished!

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes. I wouldn't have gone for the lemon and pink grapefruit or the orange but we really enjoyed them.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
I can see how they would be, but I haven't felt the need to take them out and about with us.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Without knowing the price it's difficult to say and I can't see how it is any different to me just adding some squash to my usual food delivery.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Probably not, sorry.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Lemon and Lime or Mojito.

Thanks very much for including us in the trial 😀

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

Absolutely. My DS is a water refuser. He only drinks when he is really thirsty and often moans about feeling headachey when he comes out of school. He loved the ability to use the little squeezy bottles and definitely drank lots more water as a result. He has commented himself that it makes drinking easier.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?

Yes. I found the Orange to be my least favourite. I would love a peach version of the little Squash'd bottles.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?

Yes. I have kept one in my bag since the beginning of the trial. They are reliable and have not leaked, despite my worry about that happening!

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

Yes. Definitely in the summer time. It was so convenient and simple. We enjoy having parcels delivered and the products stand out from the weekly shopping this way.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?

Yes. I have been telling everyone about them. :)

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?

Lime and coconut or passionfruit and grapefruit. I like the less sweet flavours with a bit of sour in them.

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 20/03/2017 23:04

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes, especially the new grapefruit and lemon. The children have had a lot more to drink than usual.
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes, I normally just buy orange.
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yes, we took them to legoland with us and bought some cheap bottled water from the supermarket. The children added it as we went along.
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Depending on cost, I do my weekly shop online so it may be cheaper and more convenient to add a couple of different flavours to the shop.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Yes depending on cost.
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Cherry and cinnamon.

Newquaywinner · 21/03/2017 12:32

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes. My 13 year old son was a very fussy drinker and bought way too many energy drinks for my liking. He now absolutely loves the orange and pineapple flavoured juice. He actually thanked me when i bought some more.
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours? Yes i was pleasantly surprised, the ones i thought would have been sharp weren't.
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?Yes definitely. Very useful for the children's water bottles.
•Would you trial the service again? Why?Yes. It was fun and a great way to try flavours i would not have purchased before. The box was amazing. Very nice.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?Yes all my friends and family were shocked and gutted they missed out on the trial.
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Blackcurrent and strawberry flavour.

We were really excited to recieve our crate of Robinsons Fruit Juice. The crate looked great when it arrived and caused a ugh level of excitement.in terms of encouraging us all to drink more water it definitely achieved that.we all increaset the amount of water we drinks thanks to the lovely juices.the variety of flavours was great and there was something for everyone.I loved the lemon and grapermit whereas my two daughters aged 6 and 8 loved summer fruits and the peach juice.the squash'd bottles were great for taking to gymnastics in my handbag and were so cute. The girls loved using them.we would be delighted to be part of this trial again- it was fun and we loved the new flavours of Robinsons j fruit juice. I would heartily recommend Robinsons to other mums/dad's. As for designing our own flavour- Lemon and lime gets the thumbs up from this house. Thank you so much!

NoMudNoLotus · 22/03/2017 12:17

Thankyou very much for including us in this trial.

I would not say that we drank anymore than usual - DC are not allowed to take squash to school only water - and we are big squash drinkers anyway.

The flavours for me were not "tangy" enough. The variety met the needs of myself who prefers citrus flavours , & my DD who prefers berries.
The flavours though I have to be honest seem & taste like older versions with new names .

The Squash'd is useful - DC really enjoyed that and it is very helpful for holidays, nights away, work etc.

For me to buy the Fruit Drop there would have to be far more bottles of squash in the delivery , and it would need to be cost effective.

I probably would not recommend due to the flavours just not being refreshing enough for me , it's also a lot of packaging for what is essentially 3 bottles of squash.
I will continue to buy Squashd though.

My own flavour would be Elderflower & Gooseberry.

Many thanks Mumsnet & Robinsons.

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

We try to drink as much water as we can. The fruit juice most certainly increased the amount of water my children drank. I hid the last bottle of juice from them.

Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?

My oldest daughter didn't enjoy the different flavours from the bigger bottles but she did enjoy the orange Squash'd flavour. The rest of my children enjoyed drinking all the flavours they couldn't get enough of it.

Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?

Yes it helped when we went on long car trips or when we had to got to town and do some shopping.

Would you trial the service again? Why?

I would buy it if it hit the shops probably not as much juice bottles. I did like the little Squash'd bottles.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?

Yes I would.

If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?

I'm not sure on what flavour I like strawberry and grape.

polkadotrocks · 24/03/2017 19:16

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

The children did, especially my 13 year old. She liked the mini bottles in her school bag.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?

Yes, I really liked the tangy lemon and pink grapefruit. The children liked all the flavours.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?

Definitely. Handy to keep in school bag as my daughter definitely drank more at school.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

Yes, the kids were very excited to receive the parcel and loved all the flavours.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?

Yes, and already have done

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?

Strawberry and mint.

Thanks for the samples, as a family it has definitely increased the amount we drank. I liked them at night with sparkling water as an alternative to wine!

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Im uncertain. I was particularly interested on the impact on my 9 year old daughter, who doesnt drink very much, trial of the fruit drop didnt change this. However my son enjoys drinking juice and enjoyed sampling all of the flavours

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours? Yes. My 5 year old son enjoyed the orange and pineapple (we would normally just get orange) and I liked the lemon and grapefruit - which felt like a grown up flavour

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
We didn't use them very often. Although put this down to the time of year as I have used similar products in the past when we have been on holiday or taking long summer days out. I did think this was much better quality than others we have tried

•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Im unsure. Price and the ability to choose a delivery time would be a defining factor.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?

I've spoken about the trial with friends and family.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Strawberry

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop? Yes we did, I'm not very good at drinking water, and having the flavours certainly improved that. We had lots of dance rehearsals and using water bottles filled with Fruit drop made it much cheaper than buying flavoured waters that I would usually buy for those days.
Did you enjoy the variety of flavours? yes we did, as a family of 6 everybody likes different things, and this crate same with something for everyone.
Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go? Yes, it was easy to drop one into the food bag on rehearsal days, and to pop one in my handbag for days I was working beyond my normal office. When my daughter travelled to a karate competition we put one in her bag for the day.
Would you trial the service again? Why?I'm not sure. It was lovely to receive, the packaging made it seem like a real treat, but I suspect the cost of the beautiful packaging would make the cost more than I would be prepared to pay.
For something I can easily add to my weekly food shop. Additionally, there were problems with my delivery and it was very delayed.
If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member? I would certainly praise the beautiful packaging and the variety of flavours of the products, but without being certain if the price, it is hard to recommend. I would certainly consider it for a gift, perhaps if unwell or in hospital
If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be? we love citrus flavours, especially the pink grapefruit, so something building onto that flavour.

neddle · 26/03/2017 23:38

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes. Although we drink a lot of squash anyway.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
They were nice and I liked the lemon and grapefruit.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yes. I kept one in my bag and dd15 took the others to school with her.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Probably not. We don't tend to drink branded squash as we go through quite a lot with me and 5 kids. We also tend to use double concentrated squash as it goes further.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
I like the idea and it might make a nice gift or something for summer.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Blackcurrant, no one seems to do it on its own any more.

neddle · 26/03/2017 23:41

The crate and my cup of hot peach squash.
