We asked 100 Mumsnetters with DCs over the age of 5 to try the new Fruit Drop service from Robinsons. They received a crate filled with three flavours of classic Robinsons Fruit Squash, as well as three varieties of Squash’d (portable packs of super-concentrated squash), to help encourage their families to drink more water.

Here’s what Robinsons has to say: “It may surprise you to know that 72% of 5-12 year olds and 85% of UK adults do not drink the recommended 8 glasses of fluid per day. That’s why Robinsons is piloting a new service to help families across the country refresh, recharge and reset with a hit of real fruit in their water. Delivered straight to their door, ‘Fruit Drop’ will be bringing in the UK’s favourite squash to homes across the country, helping families to enjoy more water with a variety of gulp-it-back real fruit flavour!”

Testers, please answer the following questions:

• Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
• Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
• Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
• Would you trial the service again? Why?
• If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
• If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?

Also, please do post pictures of your Fruit Drop crates and your family enjoying the challenge of drinking more water on this feedback thread and on your social media channels using the #enjoymorewater. It would be great if you could also tag one of the Robinsons accounts below.

Facebook: @ Robinsons
Twitter: @ DrinkRobinsons
Instagram: @ Robinsons_UK

All testers who leave their feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Surely you are drinking more squash not more water?

You don't drink it neat Hmm

Wish I had got to do this trial, I buy about 4 bottles of robinsons a week!

CombineBananaFister · 09/03/2017 19:59

YES - we drank more water than normal by using the juice as I think because normally we'd only buy one bottle and get bored, there was a nice choice in the crate

YES, we enjoyed the flavours, especially the peach one and the squashd ones were a good strong flavour - infact, we got caught out on our first tries of them as they really do only need a teeny bit and we were generous, not that my son was complaining Grin

YES, the Squashd ones were useful for out and about. Actually, these were fab for days out so we could buy reasonably priced water and just add it.

UNSURE if we'd try it again, would be price dependent. A nice treat though and crate looks fab

YES, I'd recommend it. Posted photos and got comments on FB, family and friends thought it would be good to take on self-catering holidays (UK).

Flavour I'd like to see - think a blueberry/blackberry type one would look cool and be tasty

CarmonEileen · 09/03/2017 20:46

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
A) Yes! We haven't bought any fizzy pop at all this week!
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
A) Yes (mostly) The orange and pineapple is already a firm favourite in our house, the pink grapefruit and lemon was an acquired taste to start with, but soon became a big hit, the peach less so but none of us are particularly keen on peaches or peach flavours.
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
A) absolutely, we always buy them to take abroad in the summer as they are lightweight and convenient, DH has one for work and DS keeps his in his school bag.
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
A) Yes I would definitely trial the service again, we tend to buy double concentrate as it goes further, I think I would be spending a small fortune if it is only single concentrate the way my lot are drinking it 😂 - and why - plenty of flavour choice perhaps not always readily available in the supermarket and less lugging bottles around from shop to car, car to house.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
A) Yes, price depending. The convenience is great however supermarket offers may away people.
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
A) passionfruit would be the top of our list.

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes my especially my 5 year old who drank about three times as much. She was very taken with the small squash'd bottles and enjoyed making drinks with them and drinking them.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes for us the orange based ones were the clear favourites so if we were going to order again I would like an option to have more orange than berry flavoured bottles.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yes when we went away for a few days I took some with us. Very light so good to transport.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?
I would as it did have a big impact on how much the children drank.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
I would if they mentioned their child hardly drank anything as it did have a noticeable effect on increasing my children's water intake.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Lemon and Pineapple.

Dixiestamp · 10/03/2017 18:17

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop? definitely. Because we had so much variety of flavours to choose from. We literally drank squash every day rather than any other cold drink. Wendranknfarnmorenthanneenuay would, actually, purely ' because it was there'.
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours? Yes, absolutely. It was great to have such a variety at the same time to choose from. We usually have one or two flavours in the house at once, but never that number, so it was great to have tha variety.
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go? It was fantastic, but it is something that we do already do when we go on trips/in holiday.
•Would you trial the service again? Why? I loved having all of the different flavours (of our favourite brand) so if I was doing an online shop I guess I would. Otherwise, I love very close to a large supermarket where this brand is available so I'm not sure the need is there.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member? Definitely!!
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be? Anything with pink grapefruit in after trying the lemon and pink grapefruit; or maybe lemon and lime.

muminthecity · 10/03/2017 20:07

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
On the whole, I'd say yes. I already drink plenty of water but having the variety of flavours made it easier to encourage DD to drink more.

Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes. We both lik d the peach flavour best. I also liked the pineapple one though DD didn't.

Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yes really useful. I keep one in my bag and if DD wants a drink when out and about I just buy a cheap bottle of water and add some. It works out cheaper than buying ready made juice.

Would you trial the service again? Why?

It would depend on the price. If it worked out a lot more expensive than just adding juice to my weekly grocery delivery then no.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
I'm not sure to be honest. As above, if you already get your groceries delivered it seems easier to just add a couple of bottles to that rather than set up a separate delivery.

If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Mango and passionfruit

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes we did especially the dc who don't tend to drink water but had more as a result of the squash

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes the variety was good. our least favourite was the peach but the orange and grapefruit/lemon ones were lovely

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
We didn't use them on the go but they were fab for the dc getting their own drinks as the strength was more easily controlled. I could say one squirt or two and they would get it. They will be great for camping and summer holidays so i will defiantly get them again for this.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

It depends on cost for me and as im not in all day i would have difficulty having a seperate delivery. I would buy from the supermarket

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Not sure. I think it would be good for work type gifts but i'm not sure about a regular delivery as i find the idea of the wooden crates and packaging quite wasteful unless Robinson's recycle them

•If you could create your own Robinson's flavour, what would it be? Cranberry and raspberry or raspberry and orange or cranberry and raspberry

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
My six year old DS definitely drank more water, the squash'd were a firm favorite, and he loved mixing them so it encouraged him to drink more.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes, both my sons were impressed that there were 3 flavours we had never tried before, the variety was useful because they have different tastes. They both now have a new favourite flavour thanks to fruit drop.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Absolutely, it was very handy for keeping in the changing bag. My children don't drink carbonated drinks, and its often difficult when we go out for the day to find drinks that they will enjoy that are not high in sugar. With the Squash'd we were able to just buy bottles of water which is commonly available, and mix the drinks ourselves to the strength the children like.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Yes, if the price was reasonable. It was exciting for the children to open the box and discover what flavours were inside, and it made them more willing to try new flavours.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Yes, my six year old DS is a very reluctant drinker of water, but because he loved watching the squash'd mix with the water and change the colour of the water, and being able to add little squirts of each flavour to his water to make his own flavour combinations, he was constantly asking to make drinks. He thought adding the squash'd was like a science experiment :) We will definitely be buying squash'd regularly from now on.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Pineapple and Grapefruit.

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes my children especially are drinking much more
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours? They love them all special favourite was the pink gratefruit
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go? Fantastic for putting in my bag on days out and will be great when we go on holiday
•Would you trial the service again? Why? Possibly not due to if your not in like us it was returned to the couriers depot which was 11 miles away (further then Tesco)
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member? I have said how good an idea it is if delivery could be left in a safe place
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Oranage and passionfruit sounds good to me

Confuzzlediddled · 12/03/2017 12:20

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

Yes ds definitely swapped his usual gallons of milk for squash at least!
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes i usually just buy orange and Blackcurrant so it was nice to try new ideas
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go? Yes and both twins have popped one in their bag for school, I have a feeling ds took one to scout camp this weekend...
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Maybe for holidays or as a treat, it was so beautifully packaged I can't imagine it would be cheap!
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?, I'm sure I would yes, again especially for holidays etc.
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be? Strawberry I think

Vajazzler · 13/03/2017 10:48

First off i'd like to say we were so happy to have been picked for this trial!

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
We as a family were really surprised at how much more we drank because we had a choice of flavours. Usually we only have orange or blackcurrant but because there was a selection to choose from we all drank much more.
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes! There was so many to choose from!
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?

Squash'd is my most favourite thing ever! I keep one in my bag all the time not and if i'm in the pub/out to lunch with friends I add it to sparkling water for a weightwatchers friendly yet grown up feeling drink.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

If the service was customisable and we could choose our own flavours then definitely yes.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
I already have! I've been telling all my weightwatchers group about the squash'd and my mum friends about the whole thing.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
I would love a tropical squash'd like orange and pineapple and an apple and mango flavour.

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes we have drunk more since the crate arrived.

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
most definitely especially the peach barley water its amazing, tastes like real peaches. We also liked the grapefruit and lemon one.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
The Squash'd are great for keeping in my changing bag for when we are out and about. Easy to add to bottles of water without spillage.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?
yes most certainly if the flavours were varied each time. Different themed boxes would be interesting.
The price would have to be right though and possibly more bottles needed as ours only just lasted a fortnight, the squash'd are still ongoing as we use them out and about rather than in the house.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Yes.

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Sherbert lemon or fruit salad after the sweets from my childhood.

I did post pictures on my twitter @Luciferswench and tagged both robinsons and mumsnet :)

kelandab · 13/03/2017 14:29

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
Yes, we have drunk a lot more water then usual,
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
Yes, my personal favourite is the orange and pineapple, I've been serving this in place of the usual orange juice
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
Yes, although I've only used one once in a family day out but my daughter has one in her gymnastics bag that she's been adding to her water throughout the day
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
Yes, dependant on price as I do normally buy squash in with my online shopping
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
Yes, I have told friends and family about it already!

If I could make a new flavour I'd like to make a lime based squash

Testers, please answer the following questions:

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?
I couldn't see that we drank significantly more water, but we certainly enjoyed drinking it.
•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?
I did! We weren't such a fan of the grapefruit flavoured one... that is still part used in the cupboard. We loved the peach, orange and pineapple especially, they got used first!
•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?
It was useful, we will get these when we go camping in the summer as they are so small! It was not recommended for under 3 year olds so it was a bit awkward not being able to make a jug for the whole family ( I have a 2 year old).
•Would you trial the service again? Why?
I would consider, but I depends how much more it cost than buying it from a supermarket.
•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?
We did! We had friends over and we were able to recommend it!
•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?
Elderflower apple and raspberry

We have enjoyed our squashed so much, the bottle is now a bit ummm squashed ;)

Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water? Very much so.
Did you like the variety of flavours?didn't like the pink grapefruit flavour but loved the others and definitely drank more.
Was squashd useful? Squash'd was very useful when out an about as it allowed us to have a bit of flavour in our water.
Would you trial again? Most probably as was convenient not having to carry it although depends on cost. I would change packaging or make it returnable
Would you recommend it? Yes
What flavour would you create? Apple and raspberry
Cherry, raspberry and strawberry

mummyeme · 13/03/2017 18:19

Did you and you're family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

Yes we did, some of the flavours are new to me and I really enjoyed them (Orange and pineapple - yum and also pink grapefruit and lemon).
My daughter has taken the squash' to school with her and loves adding it to bottled water as do I.

Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?

Yes definitely, it was great to try some we haven't before I'd definitely buy them again.

Would you trial the service again?

Yes we would. I love the crate it came in and it's certainly made the product feel special. It would be great to get a different selection or variety each time too.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit drop to a friend or family member?

I would recommend Fruit drop, we have drunk much more water as a result and it feels like a treat. Having a variety at one time meant we varied flavours much more rather than buying just one bottle and getting bored of that flavour.

If you could create you're own flavour, what would it be?

Watermelon and blueberry.

•Did you and your family enjoy drinking more water as a result of Fruit Drop?

Drinks were definitely asked for and drunk up a lot more during the trial!

•Did you enjoy the variety of flavours?

Yes, I was also glad that only one of the flavours was a Barley one as one of our daughters is Gluten intolerant.

•Was Squash’d useful for when you were on-the-go?

Yep - handy to keep in the bag to save buying expensive drinks whilst out and about.

•Would you trial the service again? Why?

Yes! Loved the packaging and all the flavours.

•If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Fruit Drop to a friend or family member?

Yep!

•If you could create your own Robinsons flavour, what would it be?

Yellow Grapefruit.

gingercat02 · 13/03/2017 19:10

I didn't receive mine, despite emailing HQ to ask that it be left without a signature. Some people on MN do actually go out to work every day!

MrsOllyMurs · 13/03/2017 22:01

The squash was delivered in a nicely packaged wooden crate, very appealing.

We have enjoyed lots of squash - I make it very weak - and this encourages my children to drink more 'water'. I have one who doesn't drink an awful lot and a dash of flavour makes water more appealing.

Our favourite is the Lemon and Pink Grapefruit, light and refreshing.
