1. What are the ages of your DCs that watched Digby Dragon?
DD aged 5(+11months) and DS aged 3 (+5months)
2. What is yours overall summary of the new TV show?
Digby Dragon is an Ideal programme for preschoolers, and contains a good range of likeable characters, which are suitable for both boys and girls. Set in the beautiful Applecross Woods, children get to follow the magical adventures of Digby and his best friends; Chips (squirrel), Fizzy Izzy (fairy), and Grumpy (goblin). The tune is catchy, and likeable and sets the tone for a fun filled adventure. The accents are easy on the ears, and make the programme easy to watch. It only lasts for a short while, which is good as the attention span of young ones is limited.
3. What was your DCs favourite part of the programme? Who was their favourite character?
DDs favourite character was Fizzy Izzy the fairy. It gave my daughter the excuse to play pranks on everyone and cast magic spells (all part of pretend play, ofcourse!)
DSs favourite character was Digby. He already loves dinosaurs so it wasn't hard for him to like something else green and scaly! He also like the fact that he can fly. My DS is also into superheroes, so being able to fly was his super power! Plus, it also meant he could compete against his sisters magic wand as she pretended to be Fizzy Izzy.
They both loved the opening song, and danced about to that. They like it when Fizzy's spells go wrong, chips always loses his acorns and when Digby has to save the day!
My kids think I am Grumpy Goblin and they have given me a hat to wear to hide my face! Delightful!
4. Out of 5, how many stars would you give Digby Dragon? How many would your DC give it? (where 1 = did not enjoy at all and 5 = really enjoyed it)
My kids have given the programme 5/5 as they said it was fantastic, but in the same breath said they wouldn't want to watch it again! I would therefore give it 4/5 as it hasn't grabbed their attention as much as other programmes. It isn't something they would ask to watch, but maybe after a few more episodes it will grow on them?
5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Digby Dragon? Why?
As a parent, I thought the stories promoted imaginative play and contained positive messages. It is refreshing to listen to the accents, and the song was quite likeable (OK, I'll admit I find myself humming the tune even when the kids aren't there!) I would recommend it to parents of other preschoolers to watch. It is a short programme with good storyline.
