Here’s what LloydsPharmacy has to say: “April 2016 sees the launch of our reformulated and re-packaged own brand of suncare range, Solero. We understand that our customers’ skin is as unique as they are, which is why we have introduced a range of suncream that is perfect for every type of skin – an ultra-sensitive range for skin prone to eczema (atopic dermatitis) and psoriasis, which has been dermatologically tested and approved, and a triple defence range that protects from 3 types of harmful rays, UV-A, UV-B and Infrared-A”

Non tester. I love Spain for a family holiday, I love the weather, the fact children seem to be welcome in restaurants and the flights aren't too long etc means there is less to stress about.

I also love Devon, I am biased as I live here but we have been and stayed in a few places and loved them all.

I am not loyal to sun cream, I buy whatever is on offer but I've been impressed with Superdrug, tesco as much as the leading brands lately.

Love staying in the UK for holiday with young kids, no hassle with flights and transfers. Favourite destination is North Yorkshire, brilliant coast line, castles and abbeys to explore, and York for any rainy days.

Non tester ....

The Isle of Wight is a fabulous place for kids, loads of lovely little towns, beaches, there's a theme park and our favourite is the Shanklin Chine, a lovely walk through a leafy gorge with a fab little tea shop at the end ..... And then you walk out onto a lovely beach ☺️
And we love a paddle in the open air paddle pool in Ventnor ☺️

I'm in Scotland and I like Crieff hydro, which is a family-friendly hotel with lots of children's activities available, and the escape-from-it-all Kintyre coast. I spent my childhood having simple fun on the Kintyre beaches. It's the sort of area where children have to make their own entertainment from the landscape- there's nothing else around - but with caves, rock pools and endless beaches it's full of potential.

  1. Used in the garden and when out and about with kids in the good weather.
  1. Too sticky for us I'm afraid - the cream in particular didn't sink in and left everyone very shiny and greasy.
I liked the SPF factor and the lack of perfume. The spray bottle worked well too, but was a bit slippy after a few squirts!
GGC68 · 18/06/2016 11:24

We tested this out while on holiday at Butlins, Bognor Regis, a couple of weeks ago. It was really hot and we had the sea breeze too
We had the kids sensitive version. It went on fine, easy enough to rub in - although the spray was a bit difficult to get an even spray across the area.
It did seem a bit 'thin' at first compared to our normal cream.
I liked that it stated it could be used on eczema prone skin. My children don't have it but I suffered badly with it as a child and young adult and would have bought it for this reason alone had it been available then.
3 star rating though! I think I would probably pass on it in the shop in favour of higher stared products if I were buying for my child.
Seemed to do the trick but I would be worried as to how effective it was for a very hot Mediterranean holiday. I think I would probably stick to the one I know.

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?

We tested the sun cream over the May bank holiday weekend (28-30 May). The weather was very hot and sunny. We spent a lot of time outside, in the garden, local parks and on a long walk in the countryside.

Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?

Both creams were significantly thinner and easier to apply than the creams we normally use. Usually we use Green People or Jason creams, attracted by their ethical credentials (cruelty-free, organic) and they are very thick and take a good while to apply properly. So I was pleased by how easy the Solero creams were to apply.

Myself and my children are prone to mild eczema and oftentimes sun creams can irritate or sting on application. We did not experience any discomfort from the Solero cream.

We spent a lot of time out in the sun at the hottest time of day whilst wearing these sun creams. We are very fair-skinned and prone to burning without sun cream. Whilst using Solero no burning or tanning was experienced.

The cream performed well and I would consider using it again in the future.

Our favourite destination is Dorset. So much to see and do and we've been lucky and had excellent weather - well most of the time!

My favourite holiday destinations are Devon and Center Parcs. Both involve the kids playing outdoors, getting lots of fresh air and we have always been very lucky and had great weather.

Both my children are happy to wear suncream. I have applied it since they were babies so they have never known anything different.

"Non-tester? For a chance to win a LloydsPharmacy skin care hamper worth over £75 answer the below question:
-What are your favourite holiday destinations for taking the kids away?"

My favourite place to take my daughter is down South, it's this quaint little harbour called West Bay, that i spent all my summers at as a child and i love the idea of her having the same experiences that i did. Spending all day pretending to be a mermaid on the rocks at the beach, getting up early before the rest of the family to go swimming in the pool, walking into the local town and taking the rural route passed the farm, the brewery and the river. I realise i'm making this sound like being part of the famous five but she's a lot like i was, so she can make these things last for hours. They have walking with Llamas, boat tours and a Swannery. She's currently really taken with Mary Annings who was an early palaeontologist (although she never really got the credit for her discoveries) that lived in Lyme Regis which is only about 9 miles away, so being around the Jurassic coast is a real treat for her because she loves fossils and ameonites, things like that. Don't get me wrong she's a real playful kid and loves adventure parks (i recommend Crealy-also quite local there) but she's at that age where she's absorbing everything so this year will be a real treat as she gets to really discover the world for herself and that probably means bringing lots of shells home from the beach. :-)

West Wales and Cornwall/Devon have always been firm favourite destinations -especially when younger

PrincessWellington · 19/06/2016 07:36

What are your favourite holiday destinations for taking the kids away?

France or a european cruise

Havingkittens04 · 19/06/2016 08:36

Non-tester - favourite holiday destination would be UK-based when children are young. Bluestone or Centre parcs are best, I think. Favourite of ours is Centre Parcs, we can't wait to go back x

We've had a couple of lovely beach holidays in Wales where we were lucky to enjoy super weather in beatific surroundings. Going to Florida this year though so will need to be slathering on the sun cream!!

shoebedo434 · 19/06/2016 23:17

my favourite holiday destination for children is Salau in Spain.
Quite a shirt flight followed by a reasonable coach transfer. a friendly hotel with main pool, toddler pool and toddler pool play area plus playground. lots of food buffet style, a lovely beach with lots of shops and restaurants, the train ride round the town is fun and cheap and the fountains that play every night are lovely. highly recommended

I loved taking my son to Disney World and seeing his face light up :)

frog309 · 20/06/2016 09:59

We used the suncream at home in the garden and also applied before sending my son to nursery on a particularly warm day.
I used the factor 50 for nursery as I felt better knowing he had high protection on if the nursery workers were to forget or not apply as thoroughly as I do. I was impressed with how well it absorbed and left no residue as f50 is usually quite thick and difficult to rub in. Also this meant less time wrestling a nob compliant two year old. The bottle was just the right size to add to his nursery bag.
The f30 was used in our garden and again was easy to apply, slightly thinner than the f50. I'd appreciate this in a spray bottle more though I think. The bottles did become slippery so maybe a trigger type bottle would be better. I haven't washed the clothes we were wearing yet so I can't comment on any staining, if any. The smell was only slight, and of nothing inparticular. While some people might like this, I missed the smell of holidays, which would make me just keep it as a nursery cream or a spray for use in our garden rather than taking away on an abroad holiday.
Compared to brands I might usually buy. It was ok, with the ease of applying the f50 being quite a plus compared. Otherwise there was nothing else to really stand out above the other brands. Equally there wasn't much making it any worse except maybe the lack of smell making me regard it of lesser appeal/quality.

non tester Menorca for me. Beautiful sandy bays, small holiday resorts, sunshine. What's not to like (it's Monday and it's chucking it down)!

lovescourgettes2 · 20/06/2016 11:23
  1. We used the sunscreen during a sunny trip to Southend.
  2. I found the lotion in particular very difficult to rub in, and left suncream marks on clothing. The spray was easier and the smell was nice and neutral. My daughter has eczema and the sensitive cream was great for her skin no breakouts.
I have to say that I prefer the brand we usually use neutrogena sensitive even though it is more expensive as it's easier to apply but thank you for the trial anyway.
giedre83 · 20/06/2016 11:30

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
We tested it over a couple of days few weeks ago. Creams came just in time as it was a very hot week. We did the usual stuff: chilled in the back garden, went to the park, days out and on the beach. We tested it on 3 children and two adults.
Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?
It worked just as well. Application is the same. This cream is less sticky so that's a plus. We usually use Avon.
