This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested LloydsPharmacy Solero sun creams.

Here’s what LloydsPharmacy has to say: “April 2016 sees the launch of our reformulated and re-packaged own brand of suncare range, Solero. We understand that our customers’ skin is as unique as they are, which is why we have introduced a range of suncream that is perfect for every type of skin – an ultra-sensitive range for skin prone to eczema (atopic dermatitis) and psoriasis, which has been dermatologically tested and approved, and a triple defence range that protects from 3 types of harmful rays, UV-A, UV-B and Infrared-A”

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
I used it on my 1 yr old and fair 9yr old, over a long weekend away when it was very sunny.

Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?
I thought it wasnt as thick as my normal brand and a bit stickier (nivea). The kids have sensitive skin but didn't react at all. I didnt reapplyas often as instructed, normally ever 2-3 he's, but neither child caught the sun.

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
We tested the sun cream in our garden over the weekend, when the weather was very hot but it was cloudy.

Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?

I wasn't impressed, sorry. The Kids one is too faffy - and needs re-applying SO often! We usually use Nivea for my very very pale son, and I prefer rub-in creams than spray for him as he's not patient enough to stand around. I also didn't like the smell - nothing is 'fragrance free'
to my nose, and it smelt of neat alcohol and chemicals.

I thought the adult one smelt better - but I usually use Piz Buin, and LOVE it, so it just didn't compare for me, sorry. Thanks for letting me try them though!

I used both the sensitive cream (for my 5yo who has eczema) and the kids' spray (on my 2yo) a week or so ago when it was warm and sunny (at home in the UK).

The application, absorption etc was very good and didn't seem to irritate my son's skin so all was going well. They didn't burn and it seemed to last well, even though they'd been paddling. My eldest also wore it to school.

My major issue is that it has stained his school polo shirts terribly around the neck and sleeves, and even after two washes with lots of vanish, they're basically ruined. I'm just grateful it's near the end of term as they look awful. My youngest, who was wearing the kids spray was unfortunately wearing a white t shirt (a favourite) one of the days and this too is badly stained.

So I'm afraid there isn't a chance I'd use it again or recommend it to anyone.

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
I have been using it the last couple of weeks, in the garden at home and the children took it to school, handy little bottles for them to take.

Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?
I was totally impressed, the absorption of it was fantastic, light and sank straight in, my usual brand is a nightmare in terms of absorption, thick and claggy but this cream was wonderful. Nice smell. I would be put off by the price, I think £7 is a bit expensive for a 200ml bottle.

Thank you for choosing us to test the sun cream.

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
We used the spray cream at home and my DD has also taken the cream into school.

Q2: How did you think Lloyds Pharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?
The sensitive cream didn't affect DD's eczema which was really good because her skin was in the middle of a flare up.
Both cream and spray were applied easily. We found they needed a bit more rubbing in than our normal brand. DD had no problem with applying the cream on her own.

RandomBob · 17/06/2016 10:48

Q1. We've been using the spray in the morning before school and nursery and taking the lotion out for top ups in the day - the size is really handy.

Q2. It took a bit longer to soak in than other brands we've used and left the children's skin slightly shiny but that wasn't a problem as they just danced around half naked singing "we're having a shiny party".
My son has eczema and other sunscreens we've used in the past such as Nivea have had a reaction mainly on his face, with this sunscreen he had a very small red patch come up the first few days but since then has been fine. My daughter doesn't have eczema but in the past has reacted to sunscreens in her face - swollen eyes etc. She has no adverse reactions to the Lloyds sunscreen.

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
On a rare sunny and hot day in the uk with asian skin me and my DD get sunburned or browned easily so to protect our skin i added this to my makeup routine

Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?
Dont normally use Suncream as there is rarely sun in UK and more rain so it was good to try out a new product

Really impressed easy application good absorption no stickiness or oiliness liked it loved the spray one a lot more and really good sizes aswell just pop it in your purse infact tbh i have already kept them in my purse as to when im in a hurry and forget so that i have it on my hand when i need it x

My favourite holiday destination for my child is Hastings. It's fairly local (less than 1.5hrs drive for us) and has so much for little ones to do. You can buy a years joint pass for the aquarium, castle and Smugglers Adventure, there is great crazy golf on the sea front next to a lovely activity park. The beach is rather pebbly but there is a boxed in sand pit. You can view the Shipwreck and fishermans museums for free. There is a minature railway, swan boating lake, pier with rides etc and some really great fish and chip shops. Plenty of nice shops and the quaint old town to visit. There are the 2 cliff lifts, a country park with fishing lakes. There is something for all ages. I camped at Hastings Touring Park over the last Bank Holiday with a 6yo, 15yo & 17yo and everyone enjoyed it.

We have found a beautiful spot in Gran Canaria we go every year. So peaceful and family friendly with no pubs in sight!

loosechange · 17/06/2016 12:21

loosechange · 17/06/2016 12:22

Our favourite holiday destination in the UK is Warmwell a ParkDean holiday park. We've been taking the dc there for about 9 years now and my children love it .It's 10 mins from Weymouth, near Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, we have Monkey world, a sealife centre and the Tank Museum near by. The lodges are very comfortable, food great and staff very friendly and when the children were younger the kids entertainment is fab.

Ntinyn · 17/06/2016 12:24

Non tester: Turkey beach resort - short flight for DC, lots of sun and kids activities. Or Christchurch for UK. Gorgeous beaches and lots to do with kids

MummyBtothree · 17/06/2016 12:26

Non-tester: Our favourite family holiday destination is Skegness. We lived on the east coast for many years as I am Lincolnshire born n' bred and we were always at the beach whatever the weather, our boys loved it. We now live in the Midlands and love to have a holiday there every year to re-live the fond memories. Skegness isn't the most glamorous of holiday destinations but we love it.

CMOTDibbler · 17/06/2016 12:31

Non tester - we love to go camping, and thanks to MN found the fab FForest Fields campsite. Tranquil, lovely swimming and kayaking lake, beautiful hills and mountain biking. Fab

We love to take our son somewhere warm but he loves caravans and swimming pools so we have been going to holiday parks in France & Spain . The canvas / Eurocamp type holidays are absolutely fabulous for families. You can take a short flight to Girona or Perpignan or drive and make the journey an adventure. Still works out cheaper than centre parcs!

Non-Tester: Loving the Algarve, Portugal. Great beaches and scenery with friendly locals. Not to mention the local wine! Wine Can't wait til August! Grin

loopsngeorge · 17/06/2016 12:41

Non tester, answering the holiday question! Our new find is Coconut Bay Beach Club in St Lucia - can't think of anything more you could want for a holiday with primary school aged kids, beach pools, waterslides, kids club, petting farm, activities. And brilliant food as well!

loopsngeorge · 17/06/2016 12:42

Glad to hear about teh Algarve Poppet - we are heading there in August too for the first time.

StickChildNumberTwo · 17/06/2016 12:45

Non-tester - we've just had a blast taking the kids to Disneyland Paris. It's certainly not where I'd choose to go every holiday, but for a few days of magical fun for four year olds it was brilliant.

Our favourite destination in the UK is Northumberland. Gorgeous beaches, so much history and masses to do. It's also a bit quieter than the South Coast.

We also love France and are planning a holiday in Normany next year.

We absolutely LOVE Florida. We went together in the early days of our relationship and went again last Christmas with my son when he was 9 months old. We are book to go again this coming December with my soon and our new member of the family which she will be just 7 months old :-)

caffeine99 · 17/06/2016 13:18

Q1: When and where did you test the sun cream?
We tested it on 6th June before going out for a walk along the seafront, playing in the garden and going to the beach

Q2: How did you think LloydsPharmacy Solero compared to the brand you normally use?
It was tested on me, my 2 year old and 9 month old. I liked that there was no strong smell but, like the other viewers, I found it a bit hard to rub in. I always apply suncream liberally and found that there were a lot of white marks while I rubbed this in - it was also quite sticky to rub in.

None of us were burned by the sun (it was an extremely hot day here) so that was a plus point! I liked the sizes I received as they fitted perfectly into our change bag.

I usually use the Boots Soltan brand. This is my preferred brand as they are one of very few brands that offer 5 star UVB protection. I remember checking the Solero UVB protection and it wasn't quite as high.

FeelingSmurfy · 17/06/2016 13:22

We like to stay in the UK, it means no
early morning trips to airport
Waiting around in the airport
Worries about formula etc
Limit on toys etc to pack
Problems with pushchairs
Jetlag

We get good weather depending on when we go and the kids enjoy it just as much as going abroad
