This is the feedback thread for the 100 Mumsnetters who are trying the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser and antibacterial surface wipes with their baby aged 1 and under.

Here’s what Milton have to say about the products: "Our single bottle travel steriliser can be used in a microwave or with cold water. It’s ideal when you’re out and about during the day, for holidays or for overnight stays –as you don’t then need to carry your usual bulky sterilisers with you. It sterilises from 2 minutes in the microwave and in 15 mins with cold water. We're really proud of the unique safety vent technology which increases the temperature inside for better sterilisation. We'd love to know what Mumsnetters think about it!"

More info on the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser here and the antibacterial surface wipes here.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I've used the steriliser at home in the microwave and out when on long walks, it fits into the carrier side pocket! I also used the sterliser for a trip back to my home town which is 3 1/2 hours away.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
The wipes were really easy to use and did a great job. I've stashed a pack in the changing bag already. The steriliser was quite easy but was a bit tight with the larger avent bottles in. The packaging says 2 mins in microwave but that's only if you have the 1100-1850w, it took 6 mins in mine.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
The wipes definitely, I was really happy with them. I would probably have bought the steriliser when DD was first born, more from a peace of mind at knowing I had an option if needed.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
Again the wipes definitely and probably the steriliser for someone who travels a lot. Or someone who is a bit panicky at having every eventuality covered (like me!)

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
A1. Steriliser - in the house, on a long car journey to prevent bottle smelling. Wipes - in house, and in cafe to clean highchair.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
A2. The products were both very easy to use and instructions clear and simple.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
A3. I would only purchase the steriliser if I had a particular journey/event in mind that I required it for. However, it is useful to have in the house if I only require to sterilise one bottle rather than 3 or 4. Sometimes I sterilise everything in my large steriliser and realise one bottle that was missed. This would be a perfect opportunity to use the Milton solo.
I would buy the wipes if the price was inline with other antibacterial wipes in supermarkets.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
A4. Yes, definitely.

I have only used the Solo travel steriliser at home so far. It's really easy to use and great that it only takes 15 minutes. It's nice and compact but still big enough to fit my breast pump parts in. If I was to buy a steriliser in the future I would definitely consider this one, and I'd recommend it to a friend. The wipes are really handy for hands/surfaces, especially when weaning.

Milton Solo Travel Steriliser
I was pretty excited when our parcel came through the post because we do a lot of travelling up and down the countryside and I was looking for something that I could easily take with us. When I opened the box I was pretty impressed at the amount off stuff that was in there, 2 packets of wipes, 2 packets of milton steriliser tablets and the steriliser itself (plus some foam bits which my 4 year old son thought were ace). I had a quick read through of all the bits and very soon got to test out the wipes as the babies dummy had fallen on the floor. A quick wipe over and a 30 second wait and voila, good to go! I was impressed that the wipes didn't smell too strong and being me I tasted the dummy after I had wiped it and before handing it to the baby and I was pleased to discover that there was no unpleasant odour or taste (I then rewiped it etc and gave it to the baby who also had no complaints.)
Now on to the steriliser - having read the instructions I gave the steriliser a quick wash up in some hot soapy water and rinsed it off before adding my 1.25l of cold tap water, the handy line on the main part of the steriliser lets you know how much to put in. I then re read the instructions with regards to adding the Milton tablets, it said put one in but that didn't sound right (or maybe I didn't read it right) so I checked online and it said put 1/4 of a tablet in, which I did. The tablet dissolved really fast, probably around a minute, then I was ready to add my bottle. Now I use the Tommee Tippee bottles and they fit in really well, but I did also try my large Latch bottle and that was a squeeze and I couldn't get the lid in. Still bottle in and I waited 30 minutes then took it out - it smelt a bit funky, but as the instructions said don't rinse it I didn't. I had also put a dummy in so I could test what it tasted like on the teat - and I have to say it tasted fine, bit of an odour but nothing unbearable. Baby certainly didn't seem to have any issues taking her milton sterilised bottle! All in all I was impressed with the product, was really easy to set up and I love the fact that once made the solution lasts 24 hours so you can clean the bottle and put it back in. The top is secure enough that there were no leaks when I got my 4 year old to shake it and turn it upside down, I would feel happy putting this in the car with solution in it and not being worried that it would spill.
At the next feed I tried the sterilisr in the microwave - we have stupidly small microwave that steam sterilisers do not usually fit in so I was pleasantly suprised that the Milton Solo laid down quite nicely in ours. I followed the instructions, put 60 mls of water in, out the lid on with the valve down and laid it on its side in the microwave. The recommended time was 4 minutes for our wattage - when I took out the Solo it was hot but I could pick it up. I left it to stand on the side for minutes by which time I could take the lid off without scolding myself. I could see that everything had been steam sterilised. Again I was impressed by the Milton Solo and would recommend both types of sterilisation depending on your own personal preference. Me, I think I will stick to the cold water steriliser just because it can be used over and over again in 24 hours.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

Used the wipes when out for a meal, wiped their high chair down, used in the car to wipe buckles of car seat, used indoors to wipe small spills and toys. Used the steriliser at home, but can imagine would be very useful to take on holiday/have in the car for emergencys e.g. unplanned hospital visit/overnight stay.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

Very, loved both! Only think is the instructions on using cold water to wash bottles with first and then salt. we've always used hot soapy water first then sterilised, some of the bottles we had to throw away in the past as couldnt get milk residue off. Ive checked some of the main websites and havent come across use cold soapy water or salt to clean bottles first. Interesting.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

Definitely. Have used milton tablets for years, these products help families be more portable.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend.

Definitely.

I was picked by MNHQ to review this product/ service, which I received for free. This review is in my own words and reflects my true opinion.

last picture: I'd also like to add the steriliser is too big for our changing bag. It is portable, and would easily pack in the car, but we down sized the changing bag when my baby was about 10 months old , now have a maclaren buggy which doesnt have much space under the babies seat for stuff. the wipes are very easily portable, but realistically the steriliser would be stored either in the house or car.

Finally..(!)... the instructions also said put a quarter of a tablet in the steriliser, whereas the video said use a tablet (a full tablet i think does 5 litres)... slight discrepancy.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

I took both to a local cafe. Ds has started weaning so thought I could wipe down the high chair at the cafe and he could eat and then have a bottle if he wanted it.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
On the whole yes but I am sure somewhere I read only 1/4 tablet was required and somewhere else a whole tablet. I used a whole tablet. Don't know if this is wrong but this is what it said on the leaflet instructions.

The wipes were brilliant and I felt that the surface was really clean. I am nervous about using normal antibac wipes and then ds eating off the surface as I'm not sure if it's safe in case he ingested some antibac residue but didn't feel that with these wipes as it's what they are specifically designed for unlike others.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

I've never used milton before as we use a microwave steriliser and we use mam bottles which can be individually sterilised in a microwave when away overnight etc. I was surprised by the harsh smell of milton. I know you don't need to rinse but I dont see how this would not alter the taste of the milk. To be honest I rewashed the bottle and microwave sterilised before giving it to ds. The solution just smelt like bleach. I am just probably a neurotic first time mum but I just wasn't comfortable with such a chemically smell. I will give it another go though and see what dh thinks. Can someone tell me whether it is a full tablet or quarter tablet tho? Maybe that's where I went wrong?! I also found that half an hour after putting tablet in there were still bits floating around. Not sure if this is ok?

Thought the microwave option was fab for those without mam type bottles.

I thought the wipes were great. Very impressed I could wipe dummies etc with this. Would buy these again.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend? Yes if they didn't have bottles you can individually sterilise like mam. It would be handy if staying somewhere overnight. Definitely would recommend the wipes if similar price to normal wipes.

Ah good, just read someone else found the discrepancy between the amount of tablet to use. Maybe that's why mine smelt so chemically!!!! Can milton/mumsnet tell me what the correct amount is as I would like to use this product again in the future :)

I have shown in the photo a tommee tippee full size bottle in the steriliser to give you an idea of what can fit inside the steriliser plus one with a normal packet of baby wipes so you can compare the size.

Q.1 I have used the steriliser at home in the microwave and due to the size it has gone in on its side, this has been taken into account with the design as it has a lay flat lip so can work in pretty much all makes, this means I would be able to use it in family friendly restaurants that provide a microwave for you to use. I have used the antibacterial wipes on highchairs, table tops, changing surfaces, dropped toys when outside which gives peace of mind that they are clean.

Q.2 Once you have read the instructions using it in the microwave is easy peasy, I haven't yet used the cold water method but as we will be going on holiday to foreign climes later this year both ways will be helpful to have. The wipes couldn't be easier to use same as any other wipe packet with a handy reminder on the label of all the areas you can clean with.

Q.3 yes if the price were reasonable I would purchase especially if you like long days out, staying away or going on holiday so you don't have to cart all the big stuff with you. The wipes are great for popping in your changing bag smaller than most wipes packets.

Q.4 yes I would recommend both products to a friend

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I have just been away on holiday (in the UK) for two days and have used the travel steriliser the whole time. I found I could actually get more than one bottle (broken down into pieces) into the steriliser which was perfect. I've used the wipes on my baby's toys when out and about, on a changing table in a bathroom and also on the nappy mat at home. Perfect to have in my changing bag.
Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
Both were really easy to use. The instructions are clear on the steriliser box and you can easily see which method to follow. I found once I used the steriliser once, I didn't even need the instructions, it was so simple to use.
Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
Yes, I would definitely buy both of these products again.
Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
Yes and I already have done!
As you can see in my pictures, my baby girl was even impressed with the steriliser!

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

I have used the Solo travel steriliser at home, on holiday for a week and also at my parents house. I also used the Milton Antibacterial Surface wipes at all these locations as well as in a restaurant while out for lunch with a friend.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

The travel steriliser was easy to use. I had previously used another well known brand of travel steriliser with my first child so quickly picked up how this product worked. It was taller than the previous brand I had used before and it did not stand up in my microwave. This however was not a problem as the lie flat feature of the design enabled me to still use the Solo travel steriliser in my compact microwave. The safety valve seemed a little flimsy and no solid click when pushed down, however I can see the benefit of this design feature to vent steam if the container becomes over pressured. All in all easy to use and very handy for use. The Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes were as you would expect from this well know brand. Good packaging and easy reseal and to use. The only thing I did not like was that the smell was very strong.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

If the price was reasonable the steriliser is solid, robust and I would buy again. I would possibly buy one for my sister in law. The wipes I would consider using but the strong smell put me off slightly.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

I would definitely recommend the travel steriliser to a friend as I am still using it myself. As for the wipes no I would probably not recommend them.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

We've been using the travel steriliser at home, on day trips, picnics, visiting grandparents & we took it with us when we went away for a few nights to a hotel.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

Both were very easy to use. The wipes are convenient, compact & easy to reseal the packet.

With the steriliser it's just a case of chucking everything in, adding a quarter of a sterilising tablet, filling with water & closing the lid. Then it's ready in 15 minutes or I can forget about it for up to 24 hours.

The instructions on the side of the travel steriliser were really easy to follow.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

Yes, I wish I'd bought the travel steriliser a long time ago - it's been perfect for what we need it for. It takes all the parts of my Medela breast pump as well as the bottle and as our 4 month old is still EBF it's the only steriliser we need now for home or going out.

The wipes have been really useful while our little one has the cold to wipe down surfaces, his toys etc so I would buy them again to stash in the change bag.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

Yes.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I used the steriliser when visiting family and the wipes to clean plastic toys that had been dropped on the carpet.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very simple to use. The only problem I had was I didn't know what wattage the microwave I was using was - I was scared Of not sterilising properly or causing the steriliser to melt or explode!

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
Id use the wipes again - they're very handy for peace of mind and I can definitely imagine they are very useful when DS gets to the age where everything goes in his mouth!
I'm not sure if buy the steriliser. I'm going to keep this at my mums, but we use the microwave steriliser bags which are much more portable for travelling. I would think about buying it for using the cold water method if we were going somewhere without a microwave like camping.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
I'd definitely recommend the wipes, and I'd recommend the steriliser for use at I.e the grandparents house or at a holiday home.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
We used the steriliser on a day out to our local national trust park. The cafe is really well equipped so we were able to use their microwave to sterilise the bottle. I take the Milton surface wipes with me everywhere; their really compact and great for wiping down tables, high chairs and dropped spoons! I used the steriliser as a cold-water steriliser at home to see how easy it is as we're going abroad in two weeks and will be taking this with me.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
The wipes are easy to use. The steriliser used in the microwave is fairly easy to use. The microwave was an 800w so we needed 6 minutes plus 3 minutes standing time. We had to place the steriliser on its side in the microwave as instructed and it worked fine. As a cold-water steriliser it is straightforward apart from the instructions say to leave the bottle soaking for 30 minutes and the tablets provided say ready in 15 minutes. You have to use 1/4 of a tablet for the volume of water. It would be good if this could be clarified as I'd only read the tablets instructions and therefore only leave it in for 15 minutes.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
I buy the antibacterial wipes anyway (have done since DS (2.5) was born). The steriliser is good but I'll see how well it works on holiday.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
I'd recommend them, the steriliser is handy and not too bulky which is great for a weekend away.
