This is the feedback thread for the 100 Mumsnetters who are trying the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser and antibacterial surface wipes with their baby aged 1 and under.

Here’s what Milton have to say about the products: "Our single bottle travel steriliser can be used in a microwave or with cold water. It’s ideal when you’re out and about during the day, for holidays or for overnight stays –as you don’t then need to carry your usual bulky sterilisers with you. It sterilises from 2 minutes in the microwave and in 15 mins with cold water. We're really proud of the unique safety vent technology which increases the temperature inside for better sterilisation. We'd love to know what Mumsnetters think about it!"

More info on the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser here and the antibacterial surface wipes here.

You can see the travel steriliser in action here:

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I have used the Solo travel steriliser at a friends house and when away overnight. The Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes have been used in a variety of places including to wipe down changing tables, clean up when my little one has been sick and many other times.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were both easy to use although the tablets were difficult to break for the steriliser. The instructions were very easy to follow

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
I wouldn't buy the Solo travel steriliser again as I found it bulky and I use Mam bottles which can be sterilised in the microwave and only being able to do one at a time was a big downside. I would definitely use the wipes again.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
I would definitely recommend the wipes to a friend. I would consider recommending the steriliser to people with a different type of bottle that does not self sterilise.

Q1 - I have currently only trialled this at home, both cold water and microwave method, however we are going on holiday soon so will be good to take.

Q2 - I did struggle a bit to start with getting to use it, we use the large 300ml NUK bottles and they don't fit particularly well, they need to be at a slight angle and the teat ends up being squashed down the side. I filled the steriliser with water first as instructed, however wondered how I'd then get the bottle in with losing water over the top, inevitably water went everywhere. I ended up tipping some out so it wouldn't happen again. The bottle lid doesn't fit at all. I therefore struggled to get the steriliser lid on, and then it leaked as it wasn't on properly. I'm thinking this was only the case because the bottles are so big. If the steriliser was a tiny bit bigger this probably would be solved. When I wanted to swap bottles leaving the water in, even though I'd removed some first time, when I tried to put another bottle in the water still spilled over. I did find the microwave method a little easier because there wasn't much water involved. It's not that clear that the button is depressed at times either. I followed the instructions and used 1 tablet however I've noticed some comments on here says only a quarter should be used.....

Q3 - I think for the price the steriliser is worth the money, however I do think it should be clear that not all bottles fit very well, or the steriliser slightly modified for all use. Having seen the price of the wipes in the supermarket I probably wouldn't buy these due to the cost compared to other wipes.

Q4- yes I probably would recommend this but would mention the bottle size problem first.

I have attached some photos.

I was picked by MNHQ to review this product which I received for free. This review is in my own words and reflects my true opinion

I have used the travel steriliser at granny's house (microwave). I had to tip it on its side to fit it. This meant the bottle inside was not face-down but sideways. Not sure how this affects the efficacy if steam sterilisation of the bottle? I use 125ml bottles and although 2 would fit, only 1 small bottle fitted once I tried to get the lid on.

The instructions were easy to follow (inside leaflet and the same on the box).

There weren't any instructions for maximum capacity etc. as I wanted to sterilise my breast pump bits in the microwave but wasn't sure if 60ml of water would create enough steam?

I used the wipes (ethanol-based) to wipe down my breast pump base/cable and it removed visible dirt.

The travel steriliser was easy to use. If using the microwave method instead of cold sterilisation, you do need to have something to measure out 60ml of water (Milton recommends using a baby bottle). There isn't a 60ml mark on the steriliser (probably because it's a small volume compared with the size of the steriliser).

Wouldn't buy the travel steriliser as it's quite large for sterilising one bottle compared to using self-sterilising bottles e.g. MAM. Also it took 6 mins and not the advertised 2 mins to sterilise in granny's microwave as it's an 800w model.

I wouldn't buy the wipes for the price they're selling for I saw in Tesco, they are just alcohol based. But they are convenient. I would recommend the wipes to friends who aren't on a budget.

Using the travel steriliser was a useful learning curve for me as a scientist, as it made me look up current evidence on sterilising breastfeeding equipment for healthy, term-born babies (you may be surprised at how often you really need to sterilise everything).

  1. I've used the Milton solo steriliser on our 10 hour drive to visit my parents. On a picnic and trip to the beach. It's fab for weekend breaks as you don't need to take bulky kit. The wipes have been excellent for cleaning high chairs and tables before and after use. My 7 month old is BLW, the wipes have given me peace of mind when eating out.

  1. Both the steriliser and wipes were very easy to use. Having to split the Milton tablet was fiddly, a smaller tablet designed to use with the solo would be good.

  1. I'd definitely purchase both the wipes and solo. Both are excellent products. We're often on the move so the solo has been a very useful piece of kit for us.

  1. Yes, I'd recommend both products to friends. Anyone who travels frequently and has a dummy dependent baby will appreciate these products, you never need fear dropping the dummy again.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

I have used the Solo travel steriliser when staying with family overnight. And I use the Milton wipes for high chairs when we're eating out.

We shall be taking the Solo Steriliser with us when we go on holiday next month as it is so handy and compact.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

The steriliser has incredibly easy to follow instructions for both cold water sterilising and for use in the microwave. It is also great that it can be safely placed on its side when sterilising using the microwave as it would not otherwise fit in mine.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

Depending on price I would consider the Milton steriliser if I was to purchase another in the future.

I will definitely be buying the Milton Antibacterial Wipes for use when out and about.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

Yes.

I was so pleased to be chosen to try this steriliser as we have three babies aged 4, 2 and 9 months and two trips planned. We tried out the steriliser at home first and it was quick, simple and very straightforward to use. The microwave method is fast and user-friendly but, as with anything that comes out of the microwave, be careful how you handle the bottle.
We took the steriliser to a hotel in Fermanagh for our two night stay so that the babies bottle and the other two kids' sports bottles could be sterilised before their night time milk. This time we used the cold water method. We wiped down the hotel surfaces and cleaned the steriliser afterwards with them and the whole process was clean, efficient and i felt like my kids bottles were clean and bacteria free.
We will be taking this system to Italy with us in June and will be using the cold water method as we don't know if we'll have access to a microwave. The price is incredibly competitive and this is a great little system for day to day use as well as for travelling around with the kids - maybe a useful gift for any grandparents who will be babysitting?
The wipes, tablets and steriliser itself took up very little room in the suitcase and this would be something i would highly recommend to other parents.

The steriliser was very easy to use and I have been using it at home but will take it with us when we go away. I used Microwave for bottles and cold water for Dummies. The wipes were great for wiping down high hairs & tables and now have a place in my changing bag. I would definitely buy both as long as they were fairly priced.
I would recommend to my friends as a quick easy way of sterilising when out and about.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

steriliser easy to use but it only just fit in the microwave here. Wipes easy to use

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
Perhaps but I've also used microwave bags in the past and they're more easily transportable although obviously don't have to the cold water option. Wipes I've used before and would use again

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend

I'd recommend the wipes and in the right circumstances I'd recommend the steriliser.

We've been visiting family around the UK with our 6 month old (we live in Australia). The baby is breastfed but has the occasional bottle therefore the mini steriliser was perfect for us. I've been using it to sterilise my breast pump parts (Medela swing) which fit neatly inside. Both methods of sterilisation (cold water and microwave) were very easy and convenient. My parents have a small microwave so the feature allowing you to lay the steriliser on its side was useful. We've had this problem before of sterilisers not fitting inside microwaves. The instructions were uncomplicated and easy to follow.
The wipes are really useful when out and about. We've used them to clean dummies and toys which have fallen on the floor and also to wipe down restaurant high chairs etc.
I would recommend both products and would buy them as they are perfect for our trip and will be useful at home too as we don't have much equipment to sterilise the mini size is ideal.

Firstly I use everything to do with my baby by the brand 'Mam' although I do have the mam mini steraliser. (Which is fab and I always get positive comments on it when out and about) so I thought I would try a new brand.
I used the Milton wipes and travel steraliser when I went to visit my mum.
I also went out and brought a tommee tippee travel steraliser aswell so I could compare the two.
I must say I much prefer the Milton, not only is is bigger it's so much easer to use. As per instructions on my mam bottles I have to take the bottles apart into 5 different bits so it only just fit. (Didn't all fit in tommee tippee one) I used mine in the microwave. However I like the fact you can use it with cold water aswell. But for time I love microwave steralising. Also it's super easy to clean when not in use...comes apart in 3 sections.
The instructions were clear and we'll layed out.
I decided to use the wipes on my little girls changing mat, dummy and surfaces before I put changing mat down, highchair and dummies. (My Milton mini had the spare in it) I also used them for her teething toys. I LOVE them! I really think they are fab. Clean really well and don't smell horrible. 10/10
I would definitely buy BOTH products again. Expecially the wipes! Nice and compact for any size changing bag.
I have recommended to all my mummy friends! 😊

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

I took both away on a UK holiday. The wipes were used at softplay for a highchair, on the beach for cups and countless times when the pushchair bar (which my child sucks) was made dirty by my older child's sticky ice-cream hands.

I used the travel steriliser in the morning at the house for my breast pump and son's bottle.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

The wipes were very easy to use. They come out of the packet well and I didn't end up pulling out loads each time.

The steriliser was also very easy. I used the cold water method (as we had no microwave) and had familiarised myself with the instructions before we left. The instructions on the box were easy to follow. I would say that the steriliser is quite small - it could do with being about half the size again (it's not an issue when packing for travel, as you can always pack things inside it in your bag). I had to use it twice each morning to get the pump and bottles steriliser, so it took 30 minutes.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

I would definitely buy the wipes again - I thought they were great and had a reassuring "medical" scent. We used them a lot, and I could see myself using them a lot at home too.

The steriliser was good, and very easy to use, but if I were looking to buy, I'd have opted for a slightly larger size.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

Definitely the wipes - I will recommend these. I think I'd recommend the steriliser if someone was looking for something to sterilise dummies and cups, but probably not if they were bottle feeding a smaller baby as I don't think it would be big enough.

I found the steriliser easy to use and the instructions simple to follow.

Probably wouldn't buy the wipes but would definetly buy the steriliser as its very good value for money.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?

We've used the steriliser at both sets of grandparents houses when visiting and the wipes have been added to the changing bag for when we're out and about. They've come in handy for wiping down changing tables and highchairs in public places.

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?

Both products were easy to use. My DM has never been good at following instructions but managed to use the steriliser in the microwave without any difficulties. We hadn't tried cold water sterilising before but found both ways easier than our usual steam steriliser.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?

We are thinking of packing away our regular steriliser and just using this one from now on now we only have a couple weeks f bottles to do a day. It will definitely be handy to have the travel option when we have a second child. We'll also be keeping our changing bag supplied with the wipes.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?

Yes definitely.

Q1. Where have you used the Solo travel steriliser/ Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes when out and about?
I have used them in the house and out and about, but in particular at a large family party - we had to travel up to the party the day before and it was brilliant not to have to take the massive Tommee Tippee steriliser - the wipes also came in handy when my baby girl had an explosive poo all over me, her and the restuarant's high chair!

Q2. How easy were the Solo travel steriliser and Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes to use? Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy to use! The wipes were awesome - they smelt very clean and also left the surfaces dry. They seemed to clean much better than baby wipes.
I loved the two different methods for sterilising, each being very helpful in different travelling situations. I love that you can leave the bottles in the solution for as long as you want until they are needed.

Q3. Would you buy the Solo travel steriliser and/or Milton Antibacterial Surface Wipes again, if the price was reasonable?
I'm not sure if I would have enough use out of it to warrant purchasing the steriliser - because there are (admittedly annoying) ways around needing t. But if the price was good I probably would buy it. I am a huge convert to the wipes and will definitely be purchasing them in future.

Q4. Would you recommend both of these products to a friend?
