This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are testing out beds by Slumberland. Testers were able to choose from a range of mattresses and between a double (135cm) or king size (250cm) Divan Set.

Here’s what Slumberland have to say, "Here at Slumberland we know the importance of sleep as a part of a healthy lifestyle, when you have the best night’s sleep possible, you live longer, look better, feel better, concentrate more and perform better at work and play. We understand how the quality of your bed can affect your sleep. Slumberland mattresses are made using a blend of four innovative materials, so that every aspect of your sleep is nurtured.”

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback three times- we'd like your first impressions now and your experience of choosing the bed, and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test it out.

So, to start, Slumberland would love to know:

-Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
-What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
-What are your first impressions of your new bed?
-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?

Now that you've had a week or two to get used to your new bed, we have a few more questions that we'd like to ask:

  • How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

Finally, now that you've had your beds for a month or more, we'd like you to answer these questions:

  • Please describe the effect that it has had on your quality of sleep (and that of your partner if applicable).
  • Would you recommend a Slumberland Mattress to your best friend?
  • If you were to buy a bed again in the future, would you consider buying a Slumberland mattress?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Slumberland on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

What are your first impressions of your new bed?
The delivery men were here at half-ten and gone by eleven. They took everything upstairs and sorted everything out so we had the assembled bed in place & no packaging to deal with. We immediately got our bedding on (40cm deep sheets are a perfect fit) and had a family try of the bed (school hols!)! Alas, it's not even midday yet, so I can't go to bed properly, but I have retreated upstairs "to work" whilst sitting in bed. Grin

Steben · 22/03/2016 12:49

First night in new bed and it was amazing, first time I have not woken with lower back pain in years!

KimmySchmit · 22/03/2016 13:56

Oh sorry must be a different bed, my asda one fits perfectly

Stopmithering · 22/03/2016 15:18

My bed arriving tomorrow.
I can't explain just how excited I am.
We have decorated the whole room in anticipation ...

Pickofthepops · 22/03/2016 20:55

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?

We chose the serene with ottoman base as an added extra - king size.

What was important to you when choosing your new bed?

The mattress - personally preferred he serene as not wholly foam. The base - ottoman as need to maximise storage - and the colour (cocoa) to go with wooden floors. Kingsize as have that currently and would find it tricky to go smaller, even though would have allowed a bit more room in fairly small
Bedroom.

-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?

Choice made easier by David's clear explanation and guidance. Thanks!
Everyone was so helpful and from start to finish (well actually not finish as not slept in bed yet, arrived today) it's been a really enjoyable experience. Many thanks to all at Slumberland, Millie, David, Hazel, And our delivery drivers and installers who'd had a nightmare days journeys and then had to negotiate our tight stairway and babygates with a heavy kingsize mattress. Above and beyond effort.

-What are your first impressions of your new bed
Beautiful, the colour looks even better than I'd hoped for. The bed isn't as high as is worried about. And looks stylish and seems very cosy and comfy, can't wait to try it.

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?

The headboard (our existing one) was put on by the guys and so much better than we had ever had it on our old base. So no clanking - and appearance wise, it's great. Love having our new mattress - the old one had seen us through two babies and breastfeeding etc - had seen better days. A new era for us - and hopefully the baby will know that and start to go through the night too!

Pickofthepops · 22/03/2016 20:56

And thanks to mumsnet for choosing us. Really appreciate it!

5madthings · 23/03/2016 16:35

Our bed arrived today, poor delivery guys it was a nightmare getting bed and mattress up our stairs but they did it and were loveky and polite they calked in advance to say they were in their way and arrived on time and set bed up and took away any rubbish etc.

I have already had a nap on the bed, at 38wks I was able to just lie down and go to sleep without arranging a crazy nest of pillows to get comfortable!

Will be back to answer questions properly later.

Ok back to answer questions, I answered the first few re bed already so will just do the bottom two.

What are your first impressions of your new bed?

Love it! Really really love it! From the first time I laid on it at the factory and now at home it has that "ahhhh" feeling. I had a nap yesterday afternoon after it arrived and was able to just lie down and go to sleep without faffing with a million pillows to get comfy, at 38wks preg that is amazing in itself.

Last night was great as well, dh was thoroughly disappointed at having to work so he didn't get to sleep in the new bed last night. I was joined by bed hopping dd age five who declared it a princess bed as it's so high up (we previously had a futon). And she slept fine, I was up in the night but only for brief trips to the bathroom as is standard when pregnant but the great thing was when I went back to bed I was able to get comfortable and fall asleep asap each time which is a big difference and given I am currently on crutches and had been hardly sleeping due to hurting my pelvis after a fall a few weeks ago... Well you can imagine it's just sanity saving to get some sleep.

No one else has slept in the bed but my other children were all excited by its arrival, my 8 yr old wanted it to be his bed and he loved the feel of the mattress. And my older boys 11, 13 and 16 were particularly impressed as we chose the ottoman style base and they like how it lifts up with the mattress on it and there was discussion about the working etc...and dh and I are thrilled with the storage capacity, sure sign of being a grown up when you get excited by under bed storage but it is great.

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?

Yes I think it will, it already has, I hadn't realised how little support our old bed was providing, Tbf it wss ten years old and we had been planning on replacing the mattress although the mattress wss actually not thst old as we have replaced it once already in the time we have had the bed. And we have always been happy with the bed but dh has been getting back ache and with my pregnancy it just wasn't working. The new bed is just a million times better, we were wary choosing a sprung mattress (we got the grace? I think) as I hate it when you are in bed, one person moves and it makes the whole mattress move you know? But thst doesn't happen on the slumberland mattress, it feels supportive yet has just the right amount of give to it but not too much.

It has already improved my sleep, obviously with new baby arriving any time sleep is going to be in short supply but I know that won't be down to the bed.

I will come back and update again once dh has had a full nights sleep but am really happy.

The madthings have all gone off to school and I am going to go back to bed for an hour now! :)

Jitterybug · 24/03/2016 12:33

Just to add to my previous post now the bed has been here for a week:

What are your first impressions of your new bed?
It is a lot higher than I thought it would be and I can't believe just how thick the mattress is (new deep sheets have been ordered). It looks amazing though, you can tell its a proper quality piece of furniture and that its worth more than my car! It is soooo comfortable.

So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
I didn't sleep very well on it for the first two nights, I think I just wasn't used to that level of comfort. However, I can honestly say that I am now sleeping better than I have in about 5 years, it used to take me ages to get to sleep, I would wake up multiple times during the night and then wake for the day hours before I was meant to. I can't remember the last time my alarm woke me up, I am usually wide awake hours before it goes off. But my alarm has woken me up 4 times this week, incredible. I have also slept straight through which is amazing. I was a bit cynical about just how much a bed could improve my sleep, but extremely happy to be proved wrong. My DH loves it too and hasn't complained of a bad back all week, which he usually does.

Thanks Mumsnet and Slumberland, we love it.

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Slumberland on their website and other marketing materials.

Wombatinabathhat · 29/03/2016 17:18

- How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
Approx 2 weeks prior to delivery, I confirmed the delivery date and was informed that I would be contacted nearer the date to confirm the time. I did not hear anything else. On the delivery date, I waited but by 1.15 I became worried that they may not be coming, so I rang Slumberland to confirm. Someone rang me back and told me that the drivers had experienced a delay but would be with me at 3pm, but the driver would ring when he was nearer. I did not get a call but they arrived about 3.45
It would have been useful to have been given a time slot, but it's not a big deal. The delivery men were efficient and set the bed up quickly. They were tidy and removed all rubbish.

- Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
Yes. My hips and back have been much less painful since sleeping in the new bed. DH struggled to sleep for the first few days and we don't know if it is connected to the bed, but that has settled down now.

- What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
It is very comfortable and looks very stylish

- So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Yes. We are very pleased with the bed. It looks and feels like a quality product and also looks stylish.

Pickofthepops · 29/03/2016 17:58
  • How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?

It was good - our guys were so busy that day and Millie at slumberland kept me advised on the day. I realise it was a tricky fit for the King size mattress on a tight bend staircase but they did wonders and got it up the stairs. Thanks. Very efficient.

  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?

Considering our 18 month old has been doing her best to keep us up 24 hours it's been really good, I have to say I was really thinking I was going to miss our bed but I haven't. I love the serene mattress it's not at all hot, but very supportive. DH - well, he's taken a little longer but getting there, one week in,

  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?

If I had to choose, the mattress - it feels so hygienic if that makes sense, I also love the ottoman feature, we have started to think what we will out in yet as so many things could go in but want to choose the right things .

  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed

It's absolutely gorgeous - stylish, modern, neutral. The quality is superb.

Jitterybug · 29/03/2016 19:42

How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
A little stressful as I was given a time of 9:30, with a call 1hr before. I had arranged to go in work a bit late. By 10am I still hadn't had a call, I rang the factory and quickly got a call back with a new time of 11:45. I had to go in to work but a neighbour kindly agreed to sit in my house. She said the delivery guys were very polite and efficient, quickly set the bed up and took away all rubbish.

  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?

Yes without a doubt. I have not slept well for years with multiple wakening's and waking early by hours for the day. Every day for the last week, my alarm has woken me up, previously unheard of. I am also falling asleep quicker. I just feel so comfortable, supported and almost like the bed is giving me a cuddle Grin. Dh loves it too and seems to snore less.

  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?

By far getting a good night's sleep. I was very cynical about how much of a difference it would make to my poor sleep, I have been happily proved wrong. Plus after suffering on a terrible 15 year old mattress, my dh used to choose to sleep on the settee sometimes as it was more comfortable than our bed, I now struggle to get him out of it in the morning.

  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

Yes, it is obviously a very high quality product, it feels and looks luxurious. I love everything about it and it has completely changed everything I thought about beds.

Thank you so much, I know what I should have been feeling like now, instead of the constant tired feeling I have had for years. I look forward to going to bed now.

PerettiChelsea · 30/03/2016 18:17

How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed? They came about 12.30 and all credit to them it was a tough job getting it in! I have a bend in my narrow, low staircase but they did get it up eventually!
Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
Definitely. I've never had a bed that costs over £200. I never really considered spending on a decent bed. A bed is a bed right? Well no, this one is on a different level. It's so pillowy but supportive at the same time. You kind of sink into it but without a dip iyswim
What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
Probably the luxurious feel and look it gives my bedroom. I can't wait to go to bed & snuggle in!
So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Yes it's extremely solidly made & lends an air of class to the house!

Chippednailvarnish · 30/03/2016 23:52

How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
A lesson in skilled manoeuvres! The delivery men had to lug what seems to be the world's deepest mattress up two flights of stairs, they managed it, but I was worried!
Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
Definitely. I have a degenerating disk in my neck which causes problems and since receiving this bed I have slept far more deeply than I have in ages. My DH also has a jaw problem and he hasn't had as much overnight pain.
What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
It is so comfortable! Unlike a previous memory foam bed I had, this one is warm but not too hot.

So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed? Yes. The bed looks fantastic, the fabric is high quality and the colour blends well with the rest of my bedroom.

Stopmithering · 31/03/2016 15:10

- How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?

The ladies at Slumberland kept us well informed of the delivery date and were happy to be flexible if necessary. I was working but DP worked from home in the morning of the delivery. The bed arrived at 11.30 and took a bit of jiggery pokery to manoeuvre it upstairs, and did not take long to set up. It was quite painless and the guys were friendly, efficient and effective.

- Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?

It's been just over a week since the bed arrived. I do feel as though we are both sleeping much more comfortably. I am not waking up with an ache in the small of my back or a stiff neck. I am sleeping through without waking multiple times to reposition myself. It's fabulous. Only problem, I don't want to get out of bed in the morning.

- What's the most positive thing about your new bed?

The comfort level. I have always loved lounging around in bed, lazy bones some might call me. It really does feel extremely comfortable. I am not shuffling around at all in order to get comfortable. The bed just supports me brilliantly. I don't feel it is hot at all, like some pps have commented. It's just nice.

- So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

Absolutely. It is clearly very well made, looks fabulous, not too ostentatious, just quite classy, as cheesy as that sounds! It is a look that would go with anything and so would suit lots of styles of decor. I chose elephant, a pale grey which we hoped would go with any change of colour scheme. It will. It's lovely.

SoftBlocks · 31/03/2016 21:41
  • How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?

Very efficient, quick and friendly. They tidied up all the packing materials and it all went really smoothly.

  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?

I think I sleep better and fall asleep faster. The mattress - a Serene - is definitely more comfortable than the old one. We do like very firm mattresses though and this one seems slightly softer than we expected although I think it feels firmer now than when we first got it which is a positive thing!

  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?

It looks great and has a really good headboard. It looks really good in our bedroom.

  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

Yes, the quality is good and it looks great. It seems warmer than our old mattress although i don't know if that's the foam element of the mattress or the changing season!

Steben · 01/04/2016 10:26
  • How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?

I was at work so I have asked for my husbands account of the delivery. He said the guys were really nice and he certainly did not envy them the task of hauling the bed up our stairs. He said they were really professional and efficient.

  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?

My quality of sleep has definitely improved. My husband and I often go to bed at different times and he no longer wakes me by climbing into bed. The mattress is really supportive and my back feels 100 times better since I the new bed arrived. I also massively rate the pillows we bought from the factory, I will never by cheap pillows again. I think investing In something you spend a good deal of each day In is very important and when this mattress is a decade old and I replace it I will never short change myself again!

  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?

The new bed feels and looks luxurious and provides excellent support which is dramatically improving the quality of my sleep. It is soft but firm and it supports my weak back fantastically.

  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

I am really pleased. In terms of the aesthetics of the bed it looks great. The colour is lovely and the matching headboard and the base look great in our room and match our colour scheme. The mattress looks like a quality product and it is. The grey colour on top is lovely and the depth and height makes it look even more attractive.

  • How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
In terms of booking the date of delivery, I had a call about 9-10 days before to confirm the date. I was told I would be called again nearer the date to sort a time, but I wasn't. The guys just turned up the morning of the date that was confirmed. Would have been nice to know a time but not the end of the world.

The delivery guys were fantastic, polite, courteous, and got the job done as quickly as possible. Couldn't fault them.

  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
Yes. Entirely. Both me and my husband sleep better. He used to wake throughout the night to turn over because his lower back was painful. He doesn't need to do this any more. I went away for the weekend last weekend, and really noticed the difference. I was so pleased to get back to my lovely bed!
  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
It's so comfortable. A genuine pleasure to get into every night. I'm even finding it easier to drop off.
  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Yes. It's brilliant. We have absolutely no complaints, it's perfect. And it looks lovely in our room!
MaximumVolume · 04/04/2016 12:55

How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
It was fine...we knew the date 2 weeks in advance so got it into the diary...the day before I chased-up on a time slot. My kids were at home due to school holidays so I wanted to know when we could venture out! Millie let me know that they's be arriving in the morning and they arrived at 10.30. They worked very quickly and efficiently got get the three components upstairs and into the bedroom, unwrapped and set-up. They took the wrapping away. There was a tiny breakage; one of our pictures got knocked off the wall. The chap was very apologetic and said he would get a claim form from the van, but I told him not to worry as it was just a £5 Ikea frame and a small price to pay for the gorgeous new bed!

Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
Sort of...I think my sleep is improved, but we've been going through a major teething period with our 14 month old; all four pre-molars arriving at once! We haven't yet had a proper night's sleep with no interruption in this bed. Both my DH and I have commented that it is even more tortuous being woken from this lovely bed than the old one!

What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
A really unexpected benefit...I had what I suspected to be the beginnings of sciatica before the new bed arrived and I was just about thinking of taking myself off to the GP about it. I'm pleased to say that in the last couple of weeks it has disappeared. I can't say for sure that it is to the new bed's credit, but the timing certainly lines-up!

So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Yes, really pleased. The drawers slide nicely, the colour (sapphire) is pleasant but not dominating. The mattress itself feels very good quality.

5madthings · 07/04/2016 13:52

Right finally back to answer questions, have been a little bit busy!

How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?

Delivery was fine for me, bit of a nightmare for delivery men who struggled getting it up our stairs but they were lovely, very polite and friendly. I had had communication via phone and email to arrange the delivery time, again very helpful and they were happy to arrange a time convenient to fit with school drop offs etc. Exemplary customer service basically in making sure everything was arranged to our satisfaction, calling back promptly and polite and cheerful etc.

  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?

Yes definitely even being heavily pregnant and thus not sleeping well it made a difference. Baby is now here and after two nights in hospital I was desperate to get bsck to my bed! I am waking every two hours to feed our new baby boy but I between times am falling asleep easily. No tossing and turning, it's so comfortable and cosy.

  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?

Comfort and the huge change from futon to regular height bed. Every midwife that's visited and sat on the bed for our post natal checks has commented on how lovely and comfortable it is and the most comfortable they have sat on, and I would think they sit on a lot of beds!

  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

Absolutely yes, we may still get a headboard as I think that will look better, we opted for the ottoman style as storage was hugely important to us so didn't get a headboard as well.... Watching pennies with new baby on the way! We love the colour and have new fitted sheets to Co ordinate and will get new duvet covers ss well. We meant to already but got waylaid with the arrival of madthing6!

We will once we are more settled decorate the whole room, already looking at new blinds etc and getting the new bed has inspired us to do that tbh, before it was just a place we slept, now we want it to look nice as well.

We really are thrilled with the new bed and am sure with time I will get a whole nights sleep, for now though it's perfect for snuggly feeds with our newest addition and he gives the bed his seal of approval as well.
