We've been asked by the team at Babylon Health to find Mumsnetters to download and review the Babylon Health app.

For this product test we are looking for Mumsnetters in the UK and Ireland, with a smartphone or tablet which is an Android or Apple device as the app is available on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPad or Google Play for Android devices.

Babylon Health say "We aim to make getting medical advice as quick and easy as possible - combining great mobile app technology with the best doctors to bring affordable healthcare to everyone, everywhere. It lets you see NHS approved doctors, face to face from your home or office, and get prescriptions sent to you or a pharmacy of your choice. You can text message doctors for speedy answers to the simple things, and get access to a range of other great features. We believe this is a fantastic service for parents as it’s all about accessing healthcare on your terms. With doctors and advice available at your fingertips, there is nothing stopping you getting expert advice for even the smallest health questions."

Selected testers would need to download the app and enter a code to receive a free one-month subscription (testers would not need to enter any payment details and subscriptions are usually £4.99 per month). Testers would then need to use the app for two weeks, and then post your feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. At the end of the free trial, your subscription would end unless you choose to subscribe directly with Babylon.

During the two week period, you can use the service to talk through specific issues with a doctor, raise any health questions you can think of, get some advice, or just chat through the service. You could also check on your DP's or your DC's health issues

We'll also be asking you to add a review on the MN app review pages.

All MNers who take part and who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

If you would like to take part please add your details here.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Hi everyone,

In terms of the video consultations for children, Babylon Health have said:

"We require a video consultation for all children aged 16 and under, in the child’s name, registered under a family account. This is to protect the child and to ensure patient safety. If a parent was requiring general advice, say about breast feeding or when to introduce solids in to a baby’s diet, then a call with the parent may occur but the doctor would not be able to offer any specific advice about the child’s health during such a call. The doctor may also use his/her discretion to speak to a parent in an emergency situation if it was deemed that the delay caused by booking a video consultation in the required way would lead to any harm. We hope this helps."

I can't find the feedback thread so thought I'd add my thoughts here. I ' e got to say, I loved the app. It is easy to navigate, looks stylish and is simple enough to use when you've got a baby and toddler about.
I booked a telephone consultation for a minor problem I've been having. I got confirmation that I would get a call 7 minutes later so I made a cuppa, put my daughter down for a nap and put my feet up! The doctor who called was lovely. I felt that she was genuinely interested in my health and that she had time for me. She was thorough and had a lovely manner; such a contrast to previous NHS experiences recently. She completed a referral to a specialist, which was emailed to me 5 minutes after my consultation. It was fab. The app is costly but, when you weigh up the hours spend waiting for an appointment, traipsing down to the doctors and hanging around in the waiting room, I actually think it's worth it. Thanks for letting me try it out, it's been really worthwhile.

I work in the medical field and find this intriguing. I emailed 2 questions and got back clear replies very quickly! Impressed so far!

I also can't find the feedback thread, and the link in the email from MNHQ won't let me log in, so here's my feedback;

I liked the idea of this app, but in practice, I didn't make as much use of it as I thought I would. I was wary about the cost of things - although the monthly fee seems reasonable, it wasn't clear how prescriptions worked (would I be charged the standard NHS fee or more?) or what would/could happen after an initial consultation.
I used the 'ask a question' service, to which I got a prompt, if somewhat generic response. I had no cause to use the consultation service, as unusually, no one was ill for a change!! It looked very straightforward though, and seemed really convenient and quick to be seen by a GP. I think a 'live chat' option would have been preferable to a video call for me, as I find my internet connection can be a little unreliable for video.
I thought the app was pretty straightforward, and I would have been tempted to delve further if I had the time/wasn't concerned about any cost implications. All in all, I can definitely see how this has it's place in the market for busy working families, but I think I would still prefer to have the personal contact of my local GP for anything other than the most basic of enquiries. (Very useful if the kids are ill and you can't get an appointment though!)
