We've been asked by the team at Babylon Health to find Mumsnetters to download and review the Babylon Health app.

For this product test we are looking for Mumsnetters in the UK and Ireland, with a smartphone or tablet which is an Android or Apple device as the app is available on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPad or Google Play for Android devices.

Babylon Health say "We aim to make getting medical advice as quick and easy as possible - combining great mobile app technology with the best doctors to bring affordable healthcare to everyone, everywhere. It lets you see NHS approved doctors, face to face from your home or office, and get prescriptions sent to you or a pharmacy of your choice. You can text message doctors for speedy answers to the simple things, and get access to a range of other great features. We believe this is a fantastic service for parents as it’s all about accessing healthcare on your terms. With doctors and advice available at your fingertips, there is nothing stopping you getting expert advice for even the smallest health questions."

Selected testers would need to download the app and enter a code to receive a free one-month subscription (testers would not need to enter any payment details and subscriptions are usually £4.99 per month). Testers would then need to use the app for two weeks, and then post your feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. At the end of the free trial, your subscription would end unless you choose to subscribe directly with Babylon.

During the two week period, you can use the service to talk through specific issues with a doctor, raise any health questions you can think of, get some advice, or just chat through the service. You could also check on your DP's or your DC's health issues

We'll also be asking you to add a review on the MN app review pages.

All MNers who take part and who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

If you would like to take part please add your details here.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

The questions on ask were about how to safely cut out dairy and what i may need to add to diet. the answers helped me out and its something i would of felt daft booking in with the doc to discuss. I didnt send any photos.
I am looking to book a consultation when my smartphone is back, im using an older smartphone and the size of the screen is bugging me!

Anj123 · 07/06/2015 22:44

I tried downloading the app on Tuesday 2 June 2015 but kept getting a message saying the code was invalid. I tried both lower and upper case but neither worked. I emailed Angelie straightaway but haven't heard anything back. Not sure what to do now.

Lailai84 · 08/06/2015 11:12

i love this app, i received a quick and helpful response to my concerns in regards to my IBS, i was very impressed and have been recommending the app to friends , family and colleagues

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/06/2015 19:24

I've downloaded it and had a good look around. Here's my feedback so far. I'm yet to book a consultation, I'll do that later this week.

It is a great app, a one-stop shop for all your health questions, but I'm unconvinced it would replace my GP. I'd like to see a real person if I was concerned about something and while there is still an NHS I'm not keen on paying for a service which should be free.

If there wasn't an NHS, or I had to pay for GP appointments, this app would be my go-to.

It is essentially private healthcare via your phone. I'd also be a bit concerned that it is a hypochondriac's dream.

At £7.99 a month it doesn't sound much, but I couldn't see if there was a family package available and it could end up getting quite pricey.

sarahsnail · 08/06/2015 21:05

Asked a question after 8pm and was advised that I would get a reply during working hours, which I did promptly.
I asked regarding my sons spots and me believing it could be acne, I included a photo struggled to show the true extent of his problem due to only being allowed to attach one photo.... This is a real problem as I could only show them one area where the spots occur.
I will be booking a consultation so I am able to show the Dr and will update with my feedback.

marsybum · 08/06/2015 22:07

I tried booking a consultation and it won't let me choose any time except 10am? So have booked one for Saturday as that's the first day im available at that time, wondering if it's an issue with the (android) app?

Crazybit · 09/06/2015 12:39

I'm pretty disappointed so far. I signed up to the App using my Facebook profile but did not realise that it would pick up on my slightly different name.

I booked an appointment but she could not carry out the consultation as I had not given my correct name and advised I changed it and make another appointment. I have been trying for over an hour to change my name. It will not let me. It will not recognise my password and keeps advising me to log out and change it. I do and it still does not work. The app keeps crashing and 'stops working'.

I have called the helpline to see how to go about changing my name and they do not know. They have taken my details to call me back.

I wish I had just called my surgery this morning and made a GPs appointment in all honesty.

Hi everyone,

Babylon Health say: "Thank you all for your comments on this thread. It’s extremely useful to hear about everyone’s experiences, good and bad, so that we can improve the app and the service."

marsybum - Babylon Health have said "We think the problem is that the app doesn’t allow you to book an appointment in the past, and so you will need to ensure that you have changed the appointment date before you can change the time."

Crazybit - Babylon Health say: "We're sorry that this hasn’t been as straightforward as it should have been but it’s absolutely essential that we have your full and correct name before we are able to start a medical consultation. To change your name you need to go into “Your Details’ within ‘Clinical Records’."

Is this where we leave our feedback? I haven't had any further message from mn about it.

Lulabellx1 · 10/06/2015 21:07

Same question as Ducky23, I gave added a review but would like to leave feedback on the feedback thread. Is there going to be separate thread for this? Or do we leave our feedback here?

Regards
Lu x

Appears you have to pay for the tests...I don't think I'd bother paying for this service unless I was Hypochondriac who couldn't wait until the docs opened! Fail to see what I'm actually getting for my money.....

AngelieMumsnet · 11/06/2015 09:24

Hi everyone, we'll be starting the feedback thread tomorrow, and will send the link over :)

Once the free trial runs out there aren't any charges are there? If you just delete the app?

squizita · 11/06/2015 11:17

Another one wondering what to do if you're not ill!

squizita · 11/06/2015 11:37

Right. Asked a question about DD'S cold and requested a GP phonecall about ways of bulking her tiny baby self up.
Will report back soon! Grin

squizita · 11/06/2015 11:39

Oh also why does it "guess" your body fat? That's impossible! My BMI is 20 and it has my body fat in the orange "risky" zone ... Hmm a bit risky for those prone to over dieting. And frankly impossible to tell whether it's fat or muscle just by punching numbers into a phone. A pointless element!

squizita · 11/06/2015 12:26

Just had my phone consultation. The GP was very helpful with a good bedside manner (pfb mummy calling about her dd lol Grin Blush ). Awaiting feedback thread.

Ducky23 · 11/06/2015 12:47

Squizita I was told if it was a child you had to have a video call, was yours just over the phone?

I called for ds and they rang me back and said they had to cancel it for that reason and I should rebook a video call Hmm

squizita · 11/06/2015 13:29

Yep just over the phone. It wasn't anything they needed to see her for, though. She is small and has a cold so I wanted advice on keeping her weight and weaning up.

Ducky23 · 11/06/2015 13:51

That's the same with ds. Very strange! I booked it and they called me and said as he is a child they have to do video calls, I asked for the reason and she said that it's the same with the gp's, if it's a child they want to see them. My gps do phone calls for children though.

Will be adding that in the feedback!

squizita · 11/06/2015 15:32

How odd. I gave her DOB ... Mind you when they first called they addressed me by her name then self corrected me to her mum.

puddlecat · 12/06/2015 14:08

I booked a phone consultation for my daughter for 1.30pm but nothing happened. No phone call or anything :-(

Ducky23 · 12/06/2015 15:51

Puddle did you check your contact details? That happened the first time I tried it and nothing happened because I had tried to add my husband on there and they had added his info to my info iyswim, they were calling him while he was at work.

It's not been too successful from my end Grin

Uzma01 · 12/06/2015 16:01

I asked a question and was given a prompt response - was advised to book a consultation, which I did. The GP I spoke to was really helpful, reiterated the advice he'd given me at the end of the call and I received an email stating the same advice shortly afterwards.

Seems like a good service, especially as it's difficult to book appointments (even phone consults) with the GPs at my surgery.
