This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been trying out Anchor butter and the baking kits with their children. Non testers - do check out the feedback from the testers PLUS what's your favourite flavour cake? Chocolate, Victoria Sponge, Carrot, something else? Add your comment to this thread and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher to spend in John Lewis (imagine all the baking kit you could get!)

Here's what Anchor says: “We're looking forward to seeing what MNers have created with our rich and creamy block butter. We know it's perfect for all types of tasty bakes, whether it's making the pastry for your homemade chicken pie, or millionaires shortbread for that weekend treat with the kids. At Anchor we've been making block butter for over 125 years, to bring bakers high quality, rich and creamy butter for their bakes."

Plenty of recipe ideas here – including delicious
ginger biscuits or does anyone fancy
Cheese Scones for a snack?

Below are the questions we'd like testers to answer, but please feel free to add your own comments too.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

  2. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

  3. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

  4. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

  5. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

  6. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

  7. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

  8. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

All testers who leaves their feedback on this thread and who complete the survey (emailed to testers) will be entered in to a prize draw, where one lucky Mumsnet tester will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

We made a sponge with lemony buttercream and a lemon drizzle style topping at DDs request

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Deff licking he bowl, but she also enjoyed getting dressed up in the apron and asking everyone what they thought if her cake

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

Eating the cake afterwards! I'm not a natural baker and found doing it with DD a bit stressful (she's 4 and fiercely independent) I'd prob give it a go again but only when there's someone to watch the baby!

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

I do usually bake tbh. But I was impressed by how nice the cake turned out

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

I dint usually bake but info use salted butter for normal cooking. I used the little bit of anchor left over on toast and enjoyed it

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?
    Very, it was edible!

  2. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

Yes I'd use it again as long as the price is similar to my usual butter

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

Yes because I enjoyed the taste

Thank you for our baking kit and coupon.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

We made lemon biscuits (a Rachel Allen recipe) - only four ingredients needed and it is pretty speedy, so perfect for baking with kids!

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Using the cutters to make our family (daddy biscuit, mummy biscuit, DS biscuit and baby brother biscuit). Then eating the biscuits as soon as they're cool enough!

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

It breaks up a long afternoon Wink. I find baking with my children quite stressful to be honest but DS1 loves it (littlest too little to appreciate it yet). It makes me feel good to do something productive and a little bit educational with him - then we can plonk in front of the telly and stuff our faces with our goodies!

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

I didn't notice a difference compared to the butter I normally use. The biscuits tasted good, as they normally do.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

Unsalted butter, always. I am aware that it's good for baking and I like the fact I can add a bit of salt if needed but can control how much.

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Yes they turned out well. (Baby biscuits a little more well done than the others!)

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

Possibly. I normally go for own brand but organic butter (prefer organic dairy products if I can get them).

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

Not really - I'd normally recommend organic.

  1. We made yoghurt & chocolate filled pastry cups.

  2. definatly pinching the ingredients as he goes along. However the main reason he likes baking is a girl in his class at school he has a soft spot for. He bakes for her.

  3. doing something together, teaching him life skills away from the Xbox.

  4. i generally use whatever we have in. Sometimes that's block butter sometimes spreadable butter (usually anchor doreadable). Block butter is definatly better.

  5. Usually butter, I don't buy margerine. I try to go for unsalted.

  6. i was pleased though we'd chosen a fiddly but different recipie. Ds didn't like it, he's more of a cake than a pastry person. Me, dh & dad loved it.

  7. I would use it again but not everydsy. It is more expensive.

  8. I can't really envisage me having conversations about butter brands with friends.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC bake?
    Chocolate cupcakes with strawberries

  2. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process?

Licking the bowl, spoon, 'dunking' the strawberries into the chocolate icing, and being in charge of overall tasting!

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

Time alone, chatting away whilst making something together, we laughed a lot when the icing sugar went up in a puff of white dust!

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter?

I usually use margarine for normal biscuits and cakes, only use butter for special occasions cakes. I could definitely taster the creamy butter.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?
I do usually use unsalted as I am conscious of added sugar and salt, that said thus butter did give a superior flavour compared to margarine.

  2. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?
    Very!

  3. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?
Yes, if it were on offer, or for a special cake, it is not important how long a company has produced it for, taste and price are more important.

  4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?
I may mention it, if they complimented my baking.

My daughter Isobel, aged 10, did the product test. She chose the recipe. I've posted a couple of pictures below but I have some video also.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

Mary Berry's chocolate traybake, topped with chocolate beans and sprinkles

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

She loved all of it. She's very keen to learn to bake but I think her favourite aspect would be eating the end produce

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

Passing on skills and seeing her enjoyment and pride in what she produces.

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

We normally use Kerrygold although Anchor is generally our second choice. I don't think the bake tasted any different to normal but people did remark on how light the bake was.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

In general, I prefer butter for baking. The flavour is better although the life span of the bake is shorter and the bake is often a bit denser. I do find that margarine does give a lighter fluffier bake.

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

We were very pleased. The flavour was excellent (I'm told as I don't particularly like chocolate cake) and as I said above, everyone who tasted it remarked on how light and fluffy the cake was.

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

I would use Anchor for baking again. It would be interesting to do a comparison bake with Anchor and my normal butter to see whether it was the butter that gave the lightness to the bake or whether Isobel is the next Mary Berry Wink

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

I think I would recommend it. The flavour was good and we got excellent results.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create?

DS (age 5) and I made Nigella's chocolate chip cookies.

  1. What was your child's favourite aspect of the baking process?

Licking the bowl, cracking the eggs, weighing and putting the cookie dough on the tray.

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

Chatting together, marvelling at how good he was at reading the scales, his excitement at tasting the chocolate chips. We also chatted about the old singing Anchor cow advert......remember that because he said "why is it called anchor butter, does it come from anchor cows?"

  1. if you don't normally use Anchor, do you think your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter?

For the recipe the butter needed to be melted and I did notice that it melted very easily. I normally use Waitrose unsalted but when I went to buy some Anchor butter I could only find salted which probably changed the taste a little.

  1. I normally use unsalted butter never margarine and yes was aware this was best for baking.

  2. Yes the results were good, very tasty.

  3. I would use Anchor again particularly if I could find unsalted but I would still tend to the cheaper own brand for baking. Maybe for buttercream icing or a special occasion cake.

  4. I would recommend if it came up.

Thanks Mumsnet and Anchor. Was fun to take part - the baking set is great, just the right size for my DS

1) What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

We made chocolate brownies!

2) What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Most favourite part (as always!) is licking the bowl

3) What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

Having some one-to-one time doing an activity with DS1 whilst DS2 was sleeping

4) If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

I didn't notice any obvious difference.

6) Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

I normally use unsalted butter anyway so no change really.

7) Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Yes very pleased - chocolate brownies alway go down well in our household!

8) Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

I have previously used anchor in the past and would use again for baking but its the price that puts me off as it seems to be a big difference between anchor and shops own brand.

9) If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

I don't think I would recommend it over other butters on the market as when used in baking I coudn't really tell the difference.

What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

We made a peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake, butterfly buns and a little bit sneaked onto my toast (ssshhhh)
2) What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

My son enjoyed cracking eggs
My big girl liked using the blender
My little girl liked using the scales

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

Spending time together doing something they enjoyed without a screen involved

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

Anchor was much nicer than my usual, I didn't realise i would be able to taste the difference

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

I usually use margarine, I knew about unsalted butter but didn't know it would taste that differently to my usual baking

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Very pleased, we enjoyed eating them

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

Yes I would because I preferred the taste. I didn't know it was the original block butter or that they had made butter for 125 years but I think that shows the brand can be trusted.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

Yes I would because I preferred the taste to the one I usually buy

What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!
We made our standard chocolate cookies.

What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!
My DS loved the apron and having his own bowl and spoon. He especially enjoyed eating bits of the chocolate!

What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?
The mixing and measuring. We both love baking so it is lovely to do it together.

If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.
I couldn't taste any different to be honest.

Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?
I always use unsalted butter for cookies and biscuits. Mostly unsalted butter for cakes too. Sometimes I use a mix of both that and vegetable fat for cakes.

Were you pleased with the results of your baking?
Yes. They were all gone within 3 days! The cookies were a bit more brittle than usual, but I'm not sure that was the butter.

Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

I can't say that this is important to me. I usually use unbranded butter. At £1.80 a block I'm not sure I can justify buying Anchor butter over a 98p block of 'other non-brands are available'.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?
I like the fact that they are providing baking kits to school, but I'm not sure this would make me recommend the butter.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

Lemon butterfly cakes

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Measuring the ingredients

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

I enjoy cooking so its fun to try and pass that love on

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

Hmmmm. for cakes I pretty much always use stork and I think bakes made with butter (any butter) are heavier but with a similar taste. Do use butter for butter cream and can't see much difference between Anchor and any other brand for this

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

Usually use stork for basic baking but butter for Christmas cakes or more rich cakes. Use butter for cooking i.e. frying and sauces and always use unsalted.

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Yes. I also love the spoon - very handy!

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

Not for baking but we do buy it for cooking as mentioned. I wasn't aware of the original block butter claim but this isn't particularly important to me.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

Possibly. I would probably mention the product test but as we are already customers I'm not sure I would go further than that.

What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!Â

We made a Victoria Sandwich with fresh cream and strawberries.

  1. What was your childâ??s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Weighing the ingredients was the most enjoyable part for Dd (maths is sooooo important)! and Licking the bowl obviously Wink

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

We don't have a vast amount of time together so we really enjoyed the time spent shopping for the extra ingredients and baking time.

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

We only eat anchor in sandwiches, never baked with it before. I could tell it was much richer than stork.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

Stork is the -'go to' brand for us for baking. Would definitely use anchor from now on. i would buy unsalted for baking.

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Yes, sponge was fab!

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

Definitely would use again, was a much richer taste using real butter.
Yes i knew it was as we only use anchor.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

Absolutely! All round better tasting.
Thank you Smile

I was pretty horrified when the baking kit arrived by courier in a largish cardboard box with loads of protective padding when there was nothing in there that really needed protection: a red plastic measuring bowl, a red silicone spoon, an apron and a coupon for Anchor butter. Sorry if it sounds churlish, something oven-proof would have been more useful.

DS2 says: "The baking kit is nice, it is all red." DS3 says: "He likes red." (DS2 does, it is his favourite colour). So who is going to wear the apron? Chorus of three: "Not me!" DS2 acquiesces. He's an easy-going sort. Once on he's very pleased with it. "Nice!" They get to work, DS1 and DS3 cracking eggs, DS2 measuring flour, DS3 on sugar duty. DS1 becomes Official Stirrer, DS2 takes on the Lemon Grating and Squeezing. DS3 takes on Pouring…

They had a lovely time making it and an even lovelier time eating it. Not convinced by The Kit, and kind of think pretty much any old (unsalted) butter will do for baking.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

We made lemon puddle pudding from a recipe that I got from MarkStretch, one of my favourite ever Mumsnetters, about seven years ago.

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Definitely the eating of the pudding.

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

My three boys made it together. Their teamwork and division of labour was phenomenal.

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

I don't think it tasted any different. Lemon puddle pudding always tastes divine.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

I never use margarine for anything, I always use unsalted butter for baking.

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

We were all delighted.

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

I wouldn't choose Anchor over any other butter for baking. I don't think it tastes any different to supermarket own-brand when baked. And it is a hell of a lot more expensive.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

No. If I am cooking, I use supermarket own-brand butter. If I am slathering butter on freshly baked bread, I prefer organic.

1) What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!
We made chocolate chip banana cake and vanilla cupcakes with toffee frosting.

2) What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!
Eating the chocolatechips instead of adding them to the mixture and watching the cakes rise in the oven!

3) What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?
Spending quality one on one time with my eldest which has been increasingly difficult since her little sisters arrival.

4) If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.
I didn't notice a difference in the cakes but the frosting was creamier and had a much smoother consistency. However I noticed a lovely creamy taste when I used it on my toast!

6) Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?
I normally use margarine for baking as it is a lot cheaper than butter however I was aware that butter could be used for baking.

7) Were you pleased with the results of your baking?
Yes, the frosting especially.

8) Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?
I would use it for frosting as I noticed a big improvement however would probably stick to margarine unless the butter was on offer. I wasn't aware it was so old!!!

9) If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?
I have already recommended it to a friend for their buttercream icing! Would happily recommend to others.

  1. We made a hedgehog rocky road birthday cake for DD3's party.
  2. The DDs enjoyed bashing up a packet of digestive biscuits with a wooden mallet! Licking the bowl and spoon was popular, too.
  3. I loved that as we were making a refrigerator cake there was very little supervision necessary, the girls could get on with it and enjoy themselves.
  4. I didn't notice a difference but that's actually a good thing as I live in Guernsey and our dairy produce is thought to be the best in the world! I melted the butter with chocolate and this was unusually successful, Anchor melted smoothly without becoming oily.
  5. I never use margarine, I think it's a ghastly product and am always Confused at people using it for health reasons. I generally use unsalted butter in baking.
  6. We were delighted with our cake. See photo, although DH didn't get a pic of its face!
  7. I would use Anchor again if local butter was unavailable as I did think it was an excellent product. I know Anchor is a long-established company but I didn't know exactly how old it is. Its longevity is reassuring.
  8. I would recommend it and have already done so for melting with chocolate.

We made blueberry muffins as they are a family favourite.

He enjoyed stirring the mixture the best.

  3. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?
Seeing how much he enjoys it.

  4. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.
I don't think they taste that different but my husband says my palate is not very refined!

  5. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?
Normally use salted butter. I'm aware that unsalted would be better but thought you were supposed to use unsalted.

  6. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?
Yes, they've pretty much all gone already.

  7. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?
Yes, we have a whole block to use up but would be willing to get more.

  8. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?
I probably would because it was easy to use and wrap up again.

Maderia. Rich, buttery and sweet, perfect cake for gifting. I make a chocolate marble version too for really special occassions.

we made sticky toffee traybake. It was gluten free and somewhat based on the cake angels gluten free cookbook...

both the girls liked being in charge for a change, and yes of course the licking of the bowls! and offering everyone some of their masterpiece once it was finished.
I loved how much the girls enjoyed the process, and the excitement of is it ready yet! ;)
we often use anchor butter, we always use butter and not margarine in our house.
we were pretty pleased with our results - it was a bit stickier than we thought it would be tho!
yes I'd use anchor butter again, no I had no idea it was such an old brand. I guess its proof it is a pretty good butter if its been around that long!
yes I'd happily suggest Anchor butter as a good butter to use in baking, to any friends that asked.
this was great fun - thank you :)

We made fairy cakes and decorated then with a mix of hundreds and thousands, sprinkles and popping candy.

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

Most definitely licking the bowl. He would have happily foregone the baking and polished off the cake mixture!

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

I love cooking with him, sharing the experience and seeing the sense of achievement it gives him.

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

The cakes tasted absolutely delicious and I've never used anchor before but was surprised by how good the cakes tasted.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

I normally use unsalted butter, as recipes normally ask for it. I am aware of the health benefits of using less salt.

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Absolutely. They definitely had that home made look, but that added to their charm and taste over finished form!

  1. Would you use Anchor butter again for your baking? Why? Were you aware Anchor was the original block butter company having made butter for over 125 years? Is this important to you?

Yes, it was very easy to work with and produced delicious results. I wasn't aware of it's history but that isn't important to me.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Anchor butter to friends and family? Why?

Yes, for it's taste and ease of use.

  1. What bakes did you and your DC create? Please post a photo or two on the thread of the finished result or of the baking session!

We made unicorn poop biscuits, they are basically a sugar biscuit recipe and then you add wilting food colouring and sprinkles.

  1. What was your child’s favourite aspect of the baking process? Getting messy, licking the bowl at the end or anything in between!

My dd (4) loves chopping the butter and my elder boys liked helping weigh and mix ingredients.

The favourite bit was rolling the dough out into worms to then twist the coloured worms together to make the biscuit look like poo!

  1. What was your favourite aspect of baking with your DC?

I enjoy doing activities with my kids, it's fun to spend one on one time, esp as I have five. I enjoy seeing how excited they are to be baking.

  1. If you don't normally use Anchor, do you think that your bakes taste different when using Anchor butter compared to your normal butter? Please explain.

I tend to buy whatever butter is on offer tbh, the anchor seemed creamier than other butters, esp as compared to the Co op butter I buy.

  1. Do you normally use butter or margarine for baking? Do you usually use unsalted or salted butter for baking? How aware were you that using unsalted butter is great for baking?

I always use butter for baking! I hadn't known that unsalted was better, I didn't notice a difference tbh but shall try to use unsalted in future. Maybe I will notice more in a cake rather than biscuits?

  1. Were you pleased with the results of your baking?

Yes very pleased, the unicorn poop biscuits are always a hit with both adults and children alike.

Will come and add more pics of the madthings baking once I have uploaded them to my pc.
