This thread is for the MNers who have recently experienced head lice in the family and have tried Hedrin Once Spray Gel to blast those little critters!

Here's what Hedrin have to say about their product, "head lice remedies have traditionally required a second application to kill lice that have hatched since the original treatment - where they were protected in the egg. Hedrin Once Spray Gel has been shown, in a clinical trial, to eradicate the infestation of live lice and the un-hatched eggs with a single application. This removes the need for repeat treatments and laborious combing, making the process of managing head lice easier than ever before.

"Hedrin Once Spray Gel is a silicone-based, skin-friendly non-pesticide formula that is pleasant for children and easy for parents to use. The active ingredient, dimeticone, kills lice by blocking the opening to their air tubes and disrupting their ability to manage water. Its physical method of killing head lice prevents them developing a resistance – a common problem with traditional pesticide treatments. Available in Boots and pharmacies nationwide, Hedrin Once is available in a liquid or spray gel format priced from £7.14 for 60ml".

So if you're a tester we'd like you to add feedback to this thread and complete the survey which we emailed to you.

Please note your comments may be used by Hedrin in marketing material, on their website and possibly elsewhere.

  1. Who in your family is being treated for head lice? Please include gender and age
  2. Is this the first time they've had head lice? If no, how many times have they had head lice?
  3. How did you find the application process for the Hedrin Once Spray Gel? How long did it take to apply and use the spray gel?
  4. How did Hedrin Once Spray Gel compare to other treatments you've used in the past?
  5. (if you used it on your child) Did your child like the gel? Please say what they thought
  6. How effective has this product been?
  7. Would you use this product again if you or your child had headlice?

All selected testers who add their feedback on this thread and complete the survey form will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck (with everything Grin)

  1. Who in your family is being treated for head lice? Please include gender and age
DD 12, ds 10, ds 8
  1. Is this the first time they've had head lice? If no, how many times have they had head lice?
No - lost count. Once a month generally.
  1. How did you find the application process for the Hedrin Once Spray Gel? How long did it take to apply and use the spray gel?
Really easy to apply. Dc liked that it wasn't 'drippy' we normally have a roll of kitchen towel for wiping it out of eyes but not needed with this one.
  1. How did Hedrin Once Spray Gel compare to other treatments you've used in the past?
Was a bit difficult to tell if dd's thick curly hair had been covered to the roots. Doesn't smell as nice as other's used. Not as easily washed out, not a problem with boys but left dd's hair looking greasy. We normally use lyclear shampoo which acts almost like a conditioning treatment, gets knots out and smells good (but is drippy!!)
  1. (if you used it on your child) Did your child like the gel? Please say what they thought
They loved the lack of drips. Didn't like the smell.
  1. How effective has this product been?
No live lice found
  1. Would you use this product again if you or your child had headlice?
It's been added to the stock of potions I have. I will use it again on boys but not for dd

Oops cut and paste on my phone. Didn't realise I'd done the whole top part too! Sorry!!

AmserGwin · 07/05/2015 18:23

1- Me, DS aged 5 and DS aged 9
2 - Yes this is the first time
3 - The application was really easy, I managed to do my own shoulder length thick hair without help
4 - it worked straight away which was the main thing, nothing could have survived through that oil!
5 - Both boys sat still to have it applied, there was no smell and was quick and easy
6 - Very effective at getting rid of the lice, I'm not sure if it gets rid of the eggs though as I have found a couple of live nits just over a week later, and had to re-apply. Maybe possibly been re-infected at school though
7 - Yes I would use it again. The only downside was washing it out afterwards, it took 3 good washes to get it all out

The product was easy enough to use
Took less than 20 min to put on my childs hair
Washing and combing their hair out was a job
very curly hair
I would use it again
good value product

I treated myself (female, 35) and my 9 year old daughter. She has had to be treated for headlice twice already this year, and I've had them once.

I found the spray very quick and easy to apply - it only took a few minutes to do us both.

It was certainly easier and less fiddly than wet combing, and less messy than a nit lotion. My child is fairly compliant about being treated anyway, but did like the spray as it was less fuss.

Having combed through with a Nitty Gritty, I can say that we are both lice-free. I would use this product again as it was great to get it all dealt with so quickly.

  1. Who in your family is being treated for head lice? Please include gender and age

DD8 and DS4

  1. Is this the first time they've had head lice? If no, how many times have they had head lice?

DD has had it more times than I can count, we get rid of it and then within a few weeks she has it again. It get clear in the schools hols then as soon as she is back at school the bug return. First time for DS.

  1. How did you find the application process for the Hedrin Once Spray Gel? How long did it take to apply and use the spray gel?

The spray was easy to use, much easier than lotion and less messy. Took about ten minutes for DD who have shoulder length thick hair, only a couple of mins for DS' shorter hair.

  1. How did Hedrin Once Spray Gel compare to other treatments you've used in the past?

Much easier to apply. Quite a job to get rid of it, but followed instructions about shampooing before water took quite an effort to shampoo though, and still needed doing again the morning after. Seemed to kill off smaller bugs than other treatments.

  1. (if you used it on your child) Did your child like the gel? Please say what they thought

They didn't mind too much, DD said it felt greasy and a bit yuck but no huge obections!

  1. How effective has this product been?

Very effective on lice, even smaller ones which I have found other treatments dont get. Needed to recomb with nitty gritty a few more times at intervals for the week or so afterwards as it missed some eggs. Was still good though, as it was a relatively quick and easy follow up.

  1. Would you use this product again if you or your child had head lice?

Yes.

Non - Tester, but due to a recent infestation we have recently had to use this product.

For us (me 43 - got infected while combing DS, DS age 10 - who was very crawly, DD1 age 8 - think louse free and DD2 age 6 - found 3 lice and eggs prior to treatment), the treatment was straight forward and moan free.

Our hair needed two shampoos to get all the oiliness out, and time to dry between the two hairwashes.

But the treatment has been very successful, I have only found 1 small louse on DS since treatment and I think that was from an egg I must have missed. I have spent the last 10 days combing and nit-picking all the children every evening and while I have been pulling eggs out of the hair I think the one treatment managed to clear the family, and while I winced at the price, the one 100ml bottle treated all 4 of us (for some reason DH declined treatment and made me look his hair instead) - for an idea of how far the solution went we have 1 very long fine blond hair, 1 shoulder length fine blond hair, 1 short fine brown hair and 1 shoulder length grey brown hair.

We would use again, but I might make sure I look DS hair more regularly as he was the source of the outbreak as I had been relying on the myth that head lice only like clean hair!
