Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

Damn I really wanted to product this!

Non tester:

Umm pretty much all if my house could do with a really deep clean. Seriously it's disgusting but as I've recently gone full time and I'm doing 3 hours of commuting a day and DH is full time and has all the childcare pick up and drop off we don't seem to have a second to clean. It's tidy and uncluttered but the grime is depressing (we've discussed getting a cleaner in for 2015 but have agreed to take a day off together first just to clean as it's too embarrassing ...).

The first thing I'd with a steam stick do is let DD have a day with my MIL and clean the cooker. I think it's a serious health hazard (we eat a lot of stir frys, salads, slow cooker meals and pasta as we've said we can't cook anything uncovered in it until it's clean - yes it is that bad).

Second would be our conservatory - we want to turn it into a play room in the new year but DH pointed out today we can't even store toys in it for now as the chairs in there are mouldy (radiator was accidentally turned off) and it's full of dead animals. I called him dramatic ... spiders and insects don't really count as a room of "dead animals".

My kitchen and bathroom could do with a good clean

wooohooo · 26/12/2014 19:53

My kitchen floor tiles
They are black and Ive always hated thrm,Ive painted them twicw but they never look clean
Would also love to try this on my oven to get into all the nooks and crannies

CarpeJugulum · 26/12/2014 20:19

Tester here.

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
Mainly in the kitchen and bathroom so far.
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
Definitely the oven glass. I normally use OvenPride but you can't use it on the glass. It's not perfect yet, but that's more about the state of my oven glass Blush
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
It's okay, but for bathrooms etc, it doesn't clean it as well as cleaning product, but it is chemical free, so it's great for using in areas where my DS touches a lot. I may need to work with it a bit more, including the attachments to get the most out of it.
telsa · 26/12/2014 20:26

non-tester - everywhere in my flat - floor, surfaces, oven, bath - everywhere needs a really deep clean, but what I would really like to try it on is the skirting boards and doors, all the woodwork, which is so grubby.

heyday · 26/12/2014 20:27

Non tester: I will be moving into rented accommodation soon and due to dust/pet hair allergies in my family I would love to have a chance to use one of these steam cleaners as I feel it would enable deeper cleaning than I would be able to achieve by other means and without having to resort to using harsh chemicals. It sounds like a wonderful product

I would love this Karcher for a host of things, namely my floors (doggie likes rolling in stuff on her daily walks) & my shower-limescale area in SEast & I just can't believe that there is anything out there that can do a good job-who knows-perhaps Karcher could!
Thank you.

Non- tester : With dodgy knees I'd lovely to give this a go on my kitchen floor to save me getting down on all fours.

I'd also like to give it a whirl on my oven. I once had my oven professionally cleaned and would testify that it was the best £50 I've ever spent!

lilmiztam22 · 26/12/2014 22:50

I'd love one for the kitchen, we have 2 dogs and a cat so this would be a life saver!

Would love to try it on the shower enclosure and the grime in the oven

imalostcause · 27/12/2014 01:25

Tester here. We have been ill for the past five days, so haven't got round to testing it yet, but hope to have a go this weekend.

margaritasroastingbyanopenfire · 27/12/2014 08:10

For the place I would most like to use it there would be a toss up between the bathroom tiles and the oven. Getting either of them clean has defeated me so far.

MirandaWest · 27/12/2014 08:24

Tester - have used it with great success on kitchen floor and on taps and other surfaces in the bathroom. Am going to try the oven at some point

Blu · 27/12/2014 09:41

Non-tester, and I have been dithering over whether to get a steam moo for ages. Can I do a whole floor, or just spots?

I would like to have a go at the remains of gel stickers on our windows, black grimy corners in the shower, grease spots around the cooker, my beloved Weber BbQ before I put it away for winter, and next year would use it to do the camping stove and grills at the end of a trip.

glorious · 27/12/2014 13:29

Very pleased tester here

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?

In the kitchen on the floor and tiles. Hoping to use it in the bathroom next based on others' reviews

  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?

Under my nearly 2yo's highchair on tiles, was soooo much easier than mopping and got all of the stickiness off. Also the grout, got rid of stickiness and glitter Xmas Smile

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
Really positive. Easy to assemble, lots of useful attachments, lots of lovely steam, and seems safe which is important with a toddler.
Shoeniverse · 27/12/2014 14:26

The kitchen - I'd love to give one of these a try on the bathroom too. It's fully tiled and it would be great to blast it top to toe :)

cherry49 · 27/12/2014 14:38

Non-tester. I would love to try this on the carpet in my dining area. It's light in colour and has become so dirty due to our cat coming in through the cat flap in the kitchen, and walking across the carpet to come in to the rest of the house. Poor cat, it's not just her! My son and I also have to walk across the carpet each time we go in the kitchen and though I have tried cleaning it with liquid and foam carpet cleaners the results have not been good. If I can't get it clean will have to buy a new carpet, which I really can't afford to do at the moment. Would also love to try it on my oven as it could really benefit from a deep-down clean.

elsbells21 · 27/12/2014 15:42

Non-tester. Definitely under the stairs. It's where the cat litter trays are stored and it's clean, but could do with a really deep clean!!

milliemoon · 27/12/2014 15:46

Non tester. The bathroom could do with an intense deep steam clean

julieef · 27/12/2014 16:16

The bathroom tiles and kitchen tiles abouve the cooker hob

bonners1 · 27/12/2014 16:26

Non-tester...would love this for my kitchen floor and all the hard to reach bits :)

My kitchen floor would benefit greatly from this cleaner, with 2 children and a gardener husband traipsing mud in and out all day, it's a real chore keeping it clean

babster · 27/12/2014 17:20

Non-tester: I'd like to zap my bathroom with one - ds has a very poor aim which is kind of tedious, and I'd also love to blast the corners of the shower, which go a funny shade of pink as soon as I turn my back.

joanf · 27/12/2014 18:02

I would love to clean my kitchen and bathroom, would save me loads of time!
