Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

Non tester - I'd love to test this on my bathroom tiles, one place I absolutely always avoid cleaning

taz10 · 25/12/2014 23:03

The kids bedroom carpet so I know it's really clean for the to play on

iwasyoungonce · 25/12/2014 23:13

Hallway floor. It gets the most traffic and always looks slightly grubbier than the rest of the house.

MakeTeaNotWar · 26/12/2014 07:28

Non-tester: this sounds amazing! I would use it in my kitchen where the grease keeps accumulating. On surfaces, on the floor, on the children?!

pepicola3 · 26/12/2014 08:08

The hallway which always gets dirty this time of year with all people and pets coming in with dirty feet

CheeryCherry · 26/12/2014 08:51

Non tester. ... I would love to test it out on the tiles in my shower, I find them so tricky to clean with a bad back. My oven could do with a huge cleaning session... especially as I accidentally poured vegetable oil out of the roast potato tin yesterday - the oven bottom is like a pond.

FreshsatsumaforDd · 26/12/2014 09:51

Non tester.
I would really like to have a Karcher stick steam cleaner to use in my conservatory on terracotta tiling. After my son's 18 th birthday the floor has never been the same. I was told that the only way to get it clean would be with steam so despite four or five washes it still looks dirty. Steam would really make a difference. Also in the bathroom, an internal room in a hard water area so needs lots of cleaning it would be amazing. The oven would think that it was Christmas every day if I had a steam cleaner ha ha. I would really like to win one....fingers crossed.

Tootssweet · 26/12/2014 09:58

Non-tester. I would love to have a gleaming bathroom, kitchen floor & (if miracles exist) oven!

Would the Kaarcher be able to handle that?

colleysmill · 26/12/2014 10:17

Tester: first impression what a nifty bit of kit! Not too big and quite easy to use. Best thing I've used it on is the kitchen sink around the tap and plug hole (we get loads of limescale here.

Only downside is ds2 is absolutely terrified by it

happysouls · 26/12/2014 11:30

I'd love to give my kitchen floor the Karcher treatment! I'm sure it would be amazing compared to my hands and knees scrubbing technique!

Marmalade1144 · 26/12/2014 12:03

Non tester- I'd love the chance to properly clean the shower cubicle without harsh, smelly chemicals and the floors! How easy no mop, buckets and wet footprints over the new clean floor from dog, kids or husband!

DeckTheHell · 26/12/2014 12:07

My bathroom. We moved to this house fairly recently and the bathroom probably hasn't been updated since the 1980s. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it and I do clean it, but the grouting looks tied and grubby and I can't find a way to get the bath itself looking sparkling just by wiping and scrubbing by hand.

feefeegabor · 26/12/2014 13:23

I'd love to steam clean my hall, landing and stairs - they get a lot of use!

RandomFriend · 26/12/2014 13:57

This sounds so good I would like to buy one. Could anyone who is testing please post me a link on where to buy it? I cannot find anything called a steam stick, and nothing that I find corresponds to a price of £99.

elvisola · 26/12/2014 14:17

Tester.

First impressions are very good. The steam stick was very easily assembled, I didn't even need to refer to the instructions, simply clip together and off you go. I was pleased that it was exactly as I hoped, a lightweight steamer I could use as needed to deal with spills, pet messes etc without having to pull out a big heavy piece of equipment.

I have used it mostly on engineered floor throughout the house, it seems to clean better and leaves the floors shinier than a mop does, there aren't the water marks left like with a mop. I have also used on the bathroom tiles (did a lovely job) shower screen and - I am really, really pleased with this one - the outsides of the bathroom velux windows which are 3 storys high and impossible to reach from outside.

I am looking forward to putting it through its paces properly for the post Xmas clean up. Only thing I would prefer is more cloths, there were only two so I seem to have them constantly in the wash.

yoeydavis · 26/12/2014 14:39

Non tester; I would love to steam clean some rugs that are to big to go in the washing machine.

zoemaguire · 26/12/2014 14:54

Random it hasn't been released yet.

juju3 · 26/12/2014 15:05

Dining room carpet - gets more use than the table

cocochips · 26/12/2014 15:11

The kitchen! It is looking a little worse for wear

kellyroxannesmith · 26/12/2014 15:56

definitely the 2 bedroom carpets thanks :)

olgaharry · 26/12/2014 16:01

the whole house ideallyy :) ty x

RandomFriend · 26/12/2014 16:03

zoemaguire thanks for clarifying.

So how does it compare with [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/K%C3%A4rcher-SC1-020-Multi-Purpose-Steam-Cleaner/dp/B00AEMEJUQ/ref=pd_sim_kh_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1JYWQ9VQBS9YRFN3A78M the SC1-020?

LizB62 · 26/12/2014 16:15

Non - tester

I'd love to try this out on my bathroom
And my kitchen, plus my mum's house (she's 80 in a couple of weeks so has difficulty with the housework these days)

anita1965 · 26/12/2014 16:24

Non Tester - I could really do with this for the hallway - adults, children, visitors and our 2 dogs - hope I am lucky enough to win one then let the deep clean begin

Mistyblue01 · 26/12/2014 16:49

Non Tester Both the kitchen and bathroom would benefit from this treatment.
