Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

All around my multi-fuel stove- it gets filthy with ash and coal dust on the tiles etc

Leiajulie · 25/12/2014 13:44

the back hsnug as the kids go through it to the garden

ChocolateCake1 · 25/12/2014 13:48

My kitchen floor to ensure its 100% clean, especially on Christmas day when I'm preparing food and the family join me whilst I'm cooking.

thekiwibex · 25/12/2014 15:09

I'm a non-tester - would love to use this in our living room, especially near our double doors to the garden, as our cat always tracks in muddy footprints!

jochrisbryan · 25/12/2014 15:18

Non-tester: I would love to tackle the whole cooking area, cooker hood, the dials on the cooker and the tiles behind the hob. I have heard great things and know Karcher could tackle it effectively.

Thank you.

Marg2k8 · 25/12/2014 16:03

Everywhere could do with it, but probably the hob would benefit most in those difficult to reach places like round the knobs

spotit · 25/12/2014 16:58

Definitely the kitchen!!

kerryv · 25/12/2014 17:30

Ooh I'd love to try it round my window frames

ladygoingGaga · 25/12/2014 18:21

tester here..

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
On my tiled and Lino floors.
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
On the kitchen floor, I came down to cat having missed the litter tray this morning, (yes merry Christmas) so I grabbed the steam cleaner and after mopping up the worst of it first, the steam did a great job of cleaning and sanitising the floor.
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
Very easy to put together, in fact I didnt need to follow instructions. Simple to use, and very effective too!

Will be trying it out on the oven, windows and shower next few days.

Liquorice13 · 25/12/2014 18:41

Non Tester : i would love to try one all over the house, but especially the kitchen and in particular the oven

samcornfield · 25/12/2014 18:54

I would really like one of these to tackle the kitchen floor. The dog is always covering the floor in muddy foot prints and the old vinyl flooring never looks completely clean. I would love to have one of these to get rid of the muddy mess!

shawbarbara · 25/12/2014 19:06

The whole house!!!!!!!!!!

ozbird1 · 25/12/2014 19:07

The conservatory could do with a really good blast !

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 25/12/2014 19:11

Tester.

So far I've only used it on my kitchen floor.

It was very heavy and awkward to keep the button pressed down. It made my hand hurt and I had to keep swapping hands. I will try the locking button trick.

It didn't really get my floor any cleaner than a mop would have done and it left it just as wet.

Bit unsure about using it in my oven. It says not to use it where there's electrical connections. I've got a gas job with electric igniters, is it safe?

I've heard that you mustn't use steam cleaners on grout because the grout might disintegrate under the pressure. Don't really want my tiles falling off the wall.

It might prove me wrong but I wouldn't pay £95 for one.

samosh22 · 25/12/2014 19:38

The kitchen

nigelh66 · 25/12/2014 20:08

The living room carpet.

dragon60 · 25/12/2014 21:29

It would be the downstairsl carpet, gets all the traffic with people coming in and out, so would certainly benefit from a deep clean.

Cherryjellybean · 25/12/2014 21:41

Non tester: my bathroom tiles :/ my arms are just so feeble at the moment, I struggle to do them properly!

lucyrobinson · 25/12/2014 22:05

I would love to use this in my kitchen and bathroom. Bet it would make a huge difference and make cleaning a lot easier.

mave · 25/12/2014 22:12

My kitchen and living room floors!

flamingtoaster · 25/12/2014 22:18

Non-tester - my oven and some of the bathroom tiles. (And I'd take it round to where my daughter lives and do the bathroom tiles there because they are truly awful.)

lhlee62 · 25/12/2014 22:25

Non tester here.
My ovens and the kitchen floor could do with a really good steam clean, the grill could do with a good clean as well. I should get my husband on the case :)

selloveday · 25/12/2014 22:28

The kitchen would benefit from a steam clean as it now looks like a bomb site after Christmas Day!

arat · 25/12/2014 22:29

Non-tester: first on the list would be the bathroom & the kitchen floor

Clairemike21 · 25/12/2014 22:47

The tiles around my cooker need it
