Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick - Review thread - non testers - chance to win one of your own! NOW CLOSED

KathrynMumsnet · 23/12/2014 10:21

This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC1 Steam Stick.

Kärcher say "The SC1 Steam Stick is the UK’s first handheld steamer that can also be used to clean floors. The Steam Stick cleans deeper without chemicals killing 99.99% of all bacteria just using tap water, making it an environmentally and family friendly alternative to chemical cleaners. It’s an innovative new way to help you effortlessly clean the most difficult and frequent household hotspots; whether it’s cleaning everyday dirt from floors, limescale from bathroom tiles, spot cleaning stubborn carpet stains or eradicating tough, dried-on oven grease."

Non-Testers: If you’re not an official tester but you’d like another chance to be in with a chance of getting a Steam Stick (RRP: £99.99) for yourself then please share on this thread where in your house could really benefit from a deep steam clean? Is there a task or area you always avoid? Where would you most like to put it to use?

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and once you've had a bit of time to test out your Steam Stick, we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Where have you used the Steam Stick?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using the Steam Stick?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Thanks and good luck!

The bathroom could do with a good deep clean! It never looks/seems really clean as it's in constant use, so grime and mold appear everywhere and is so difficult to remove, if its removable at all. I'd love try this out and I'm sure I'd get really carried away and continue to use in the kitchen/down-stairs toilet, etc., etc. ...

simone12345 · 25/12/2014 08:13

WOULD LOVE TO DO ALL MY BATHROOM WITH THIS ALSO MY CAR NEED DOING WITH THIS ALL SEATS AND FLOOR

mainedrops · 25/12/2014 08:27

Non tester - I would use this on my yukky, greasy cooker, the hood and tiles. Nothing I try gets rid of the grease on my cooker hood and it is unsightly and horrible.

spanglisher · 25/12/2014 08:30

Non-tester: I'd love to use it on my kitchen floor, especially those hard to reach corners and around the cooker, leaky fridge etc

RandomFriend · 25/12/2014 08:36

Non-Tester.

Can the Steam Stick be used on celings? There is a sort of mould that grows on the bathroom celing, which is very difficult to clean and no matter what I do it comes back. Perhaps the steam stick would get it off more easily or even for good.

Apart from that, I'd like to do my whole house, especially the kitchen and bathroom.

sam2kids1 · 25/12/2014 08:39

my whole house could use a deep clean (well flat) i took on all overtime to fund xmas and working in retail started in late December my home feels unloved unclean and neglected.

sleach · 25/12/2014 08:41

kitchen floor

janeyf1 · 25/12/2014 09:09

Non-tester - most of my flat could do with a steam clean - particularly the bathroom, kitchen tiles and entrance hall. This would be ideal

Chopstheduck · 25/12/2014 09:34

the kitchen - the build up of grease is rather embarassing, and I'm sure we will be adding to it today!

beckyinman · 25/12/2014 09:37

Non-Testers: The utility room as that is where our three cats sleep and eat

cazzzie987 · 25/12/2014 09:38

The kitchen. The cats sleep in there, plus it is also an exit. It gets very dirty quickly. Nightmare.

I like the idea of the Steam Stick universal cleaning abilities as some testers have indentified above. So I would like to try it on the oven first off (who likes cleaning that for a pastime?). The oven isn't a mess but could definately do with a spruce up.

Plus like several other MN'ers, I have marble times downstairs in the kitchen and sitting room and whilst use anti bacterial cleaner, reports so far highlight a more thorough clean and sparkling end result.

I perhaps would be a touch more hesitant on the real wood bedroom floor incase of any damage due to pressure or left over residue which may cause damage/mold/smell so would have to check other testers progress before being that brave......

domesticated · 25/12/2014 10:25

Non-Tester: I would love to use it in my kitchen especially the tiles and oven. There are 101 other things that it would be most useful for in our household.

First id want to steam clean my sons bedroom. 2 teenage boys not good. No seriously i would do my kitchen floor :)

MummyBtothree · 25/12/2014 12:06

Non-Tester My kitchen is the main troublesome room in our house. We are a family of five and have a fairly small kitchen. The tiles and floor would especially benefit from a good steam clean.

Micah68 · 25/12/2014 12:07

My dining room would benefit as tiny bits of food and dust and lodged between the grooves in the wooden floor, the curtains and blinds are similar.

26jibby · 25/12/2014 12:17

My kitchen as no matter how hard I scrub the tiles are still dirty.

NapoleonsNose · 25/12/2014 12:38

Non tester - I love gadgets! I would love to try a Karcher Steam Stick to clean all the nasty bits in my bathroom; the seal around the bath, tile grout and the shower screen.

glennamy · 25/12/2014 12:43

Would have to be the bathroom for me, followed by the kitchen...

marcc82 · 25/12/2014 13:05

I would love to try this on my tiled floors in my bathroom and kitchen.

Monica101 · 25/12/2014 13:13

Non tester: I find the banisters and hand rail in the house gets quite dirty with hand prints from the children.

I find it a chore which is a pain and doesn't therefore get done enough. I would like to try the stick to see if it makes light work of getting between the spindles and along the hand rail.

jcyclops · 25/12/2014 13:30

In my house the INSIDE could do with a good steam clean ;)

Seriously - I would love to give the tiling grout in the bathroom a deep clean with a steam stick, although the oven would benefit as well.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 25/12/2014 13:40

Non-tester.
Don't get me wrong, my house isn't a health hazard. It is superficially clean. However, there's nowhere in my house that wouldn't benefit from a deep steam clean, but the bathroom, particularly the shower, could do with it the most.
