Microsoft have asked us to find 10 Mumsnetters to test out Nokia Lumia 735, Xbox One Console with Kinect and a Linx tablet (total RRP ~£750).

Here’s what Microsoft’s marketing manager says, “As a marketing manager for Microsoft and mum of 2 boys, I know that things at home and at work can get pretty busy – especially this time of year with present buying, decorating the house, nativity play outfits, pantomimes……you know the rest :-). That is why we wanted to show you the collective power of some of these Microsoft products and how they can be used for the whole family. We would like to find families that can try out a Nokia Lumia phone, XBox One console and one of the new very affordable Linx tablets. All of these work together in a way that your family’s life can be fun and organised, productive and producing lots of laughs.”

This product test is open to UK Mumsnetters who have at least two children age between 5-15.

Testers will need to be available to attend an event in Victoria, London on Tuesday 16th December between 10-12:30 to learn how to get most out of all the products and how to use them together.

Testers will each receive:

  • Nokia Lumia 735
  • Xbox One Console with Kinect + 12 month Xbox Live subscription + Project Spark game
  • Linx tablet (7 will receive the 8" tablet and and 3 testers will receive the 10" tablet)

Testers will be required to add their feedback on the products on three separate feedback threads onsite. So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the products.

Thanks and good luck

Got excited and was about to apply til I read the "have at least two children". Can't enter as I only have one. I'll get over it but there's plenty of one child family's and then with people who can't travel to London for various reasons they've excluded an awful lot of people.

Good luck to those eligible.

When do we find out? I have train tickets to book if I'm selected (and it would be polite to let my Londoner parents know I'll be down that way!)

maybe just for public school kids?

AliceInWinterWonderland, I understand your position because I'm disabled and so is my daughter. I agree that it is just for Microsoft PR, nice pics with the kids !!!! So microsoft if that's the case it would be Kudos to you to have a Nationwide PR event, the UK consists of Northern Ireland, Scotland,Wales and THE WHOLE of England from North, South, East and West and London is not the Capital or Focal Point of the UK. Microsoft have missed out on a good PR opportunity with this one. It should have been timed better from October and surely the good? reviews on here would have generated them many more sales, leading up to Christmas. There are also families on here with disabled children and adults and many of us rely on mobiles, the Internet and games consoles with many of us having limited independent mobility and our gadgets and equipment sometimes keep us in touch with the World.
I have actually entered with the hope that I can sort out childcare and suitable transport, I'm surprised that Microsoft haven't arranged transport TBA because hiring a minibus to pick up North, East, West and South would have encouraged interest from Family's outside of London. Travelling from Liverpool with my own disability together with my disabled daughter age 14 and twins age 8 could be difficult for me, not to mention the hassle with school for time off etc.
Mumsnet could have planned this better for you Microsoft, even I could have planned this better for you with regional meetings etc.!
Seems like we lose out on both cheap flights and product testing.

Not many product tests require travelling to London! I think it's just a few a year alongside hundreds which get posted out to us.

The cinema based tests all have several other locations outside London

Disappointing. Can I get my London based relative to do the training, and then when they come up north for Xmas they can disseminate?

another parent of an only child here wondering why you had to have two children to take part and wishing it had been in the title or at least prominent in the text.

I work Saturdays.... Busiest time for those of us who work in retail. They can't accomodate everyone

Report
TheEnduringMoment · 06/12/2014 12:38

Assuming they don't want DC there, Tuesday 16th 10-12 is possible for single parents in the South East with school/nursery age children. Saturday isn't, and even if you have someone to take the DC, it's a big chunk out of a precious pre-Christmas weekend when most people will have family plans.

Report
pigsinmud · 06/12/2014 13:06

I filled in the form assuming the DC were not needed at the London demo. Pretty sure most state school children will still be at school on that day.

I filled in, thinking that you won't have to take the child in. Although I work in a school, I am very lucky that my field means I can take time out for tech related events. [grins]

If however Microsoft require children to be then they need to pay for the ensuing fines for children missing out on school. It's not something that hasn't been highly publicised. It will also be bad publicity for them to encourage truancy.

I can bring a 10yo if necessary*, she breaks up this Friday (pick me pick me!)

*a neighbour's DD, but she'd be cool with it, she'd probably end up playing on them at our house anyway so it's much the same as bringing my own 10yo DD
