Q1. What was your overall impression of Finish Power and Pure?
They were smaller than the usual brand, and they worked very well.
Q2. How effective did you find Finish Power and Pure compared to your usual dishwasher tablets?
Just as effective. We've used basic Finish before and they've not worked as well as Fairy, but the Fairy tabs are almost double the size so I assumed it was that, plus a lot of baking and roasting etc in this house and very full loads. These ones did as good a job.
Q3. Finish Power and Pure is made with fewer chemicals, would you prefer to use dishwasher tablets with fewer chemicals? If so, why? If not, why not?
I was warned by a biochemistry researcher we once had as a lodger never to wash wooden spoons in a dishwasher, as they will absorb detergents and transfer them to food. That unsettled me a bit, and these days we wash a lot of plastic items in there, as we have kids. I'd assume plastic absorbs more than ceramics and metal, too.
Having said that, "chemicals" is a bit of a loose term. I'd like to use fewer with bad effects on the environment and us, definitely, which was why I tried to use Ecover (unfortunately, they didn't get stuff clean enough to persevere). The chemical Finish seem to have removed I looked up and it's actually not that harmful, either on us or on rivers, but I suppose less of anything is good? Most of the ingredients are identical in Finish and Fairy, though, according to the breakdown. I suppose it's the formulation that differs.
Q4. Do you think you’d be likely to buy it again in future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yeah, I would, if they were on offer and Fairy weren't (I tend to bulk buy dishwasher tabs when they are, because they're so expensive as a rule). They're just as effective in our machine, which other brands haven't been before. I don't know enough of the biochemistry to know how much better they are than standard, but removing any detergent elements to reduce those needed is presumably a good idea, and these actually do the job. Eco-friendly ones I've tried don't.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Finish Power and Pure to friends and family?
On the grounds they worked, yes. I'm not sure I'm totally sold on their being any healthier/greener than most mainstream options, though. If Finish want people to buy them on those grounds then they need to provide more information on how and why they're different. I mean, everything's a chemical. Water is made up of chemicals and so are we. It isn't "fewer chemicals" that convinced me as much as losing one named type altogether, without increasing the load elsewhere. I'd like to know why they did that and what benefit they hoped it would have, outside marketing.
