Sainsbury's has asked us to find 30 MNers to test out their new Mobile by Sainsbury's service. You can either try out the service yourself, or give it to your child or another member of the family so that they can use it to keep in touch with you and others, and then you can tell us how they got on.

Here's what Sainsbury's say about the service: "The average UK family is feeling the pinch, and Mobile by Sainsbury's is an easy way to make your pound stretch further. The Nectar savings you can make through Mobile by Sainsbury's offers will allow a family of four to eat an incredible 45 meals a year*. We know that many customers find choosing a mobile phone network a bit stressful, so we've opted to not only keep our price plans as affordable as possible - we've also made it incredibly simple. With our pay as you go service, customers know exactly what they're getting and how much they're spending, which means no nasty surprises at the end of the month."

This is open to all UK MNers with at least one child at home. One of the main benefits of the service is the amount of Nectar points you can earn, so you will need to have a Nectar card, or be willing to sign up for one if you're selected to take part.

Testers will be provided with one of the handsets below (these will be allocated at random) and you can keep it after testing. You'll also be provided with a SIM card and a £10 top up voucher with which you can purchase one of the Mobile by Sainsbury's bundles which includes 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB of data, lasting up to 30 days. The services included within these bundles are for UK use only and the minutes can be used to call any UK mobiles and landline numbers.

Nectar card users will receive double Nectar points on their Sainsbury?s shopping (some exclusions apply) and fuel while they are using the bundle service, as well as double Nectar points for every £1 they top up. You can link your Nectar account to your phone by texting your Nectar card number to 40774 for free. All points collected through Mobile by Sainsbury's will be credited to your Nectar account within 28 days.

If you're selected to be a tester but you're not currently a Nectar card user, we can provide you with a sign up sheet. You can find more information about the Mobile by Sainsbury's Nectar perks here.

Nokia 100

Samsung E1190

BlackBerry Curve 9320

Sony Xperia E

Samsung Galaxy Fame

Nokia Lumia 520

You can find out more information about the handsets here and via Sainsbury's customer care line on 0845 440 0775, or 40775 from a Mobile by Sainsbury's phone.

If you'd like to stay with Mobile by Sainsbury's after the trial period of up to one month you'll just need to continue to purchase Mobile by Sainsbury's bundles or top ups. If you don't want to carry on after the trial, you don't have to.

All selected testers who add their feedback to a thread on MN will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £100 Sainsbury's voucher.

More information about Mobile by Sainsbury's can be found here and usage terms and conditions here.

If you?re interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

Have to wait for tomorrow to get my phone. They would pick the one day in out to try to deliver! Can't wait to see what we've got Smile

DelayedActionMouseMaker · 12/08/2013 19:30

I've never had a phone with a camera, as a photographer it's something I would have loved. :)

afromom · 12/08/2013 19:35

We've just realised that we did our top up wrong! We put the voucher on and didn't connect the bundle whoops! DS has been texting all day and had managed to use up £2.75 worth of credit! So I called the number and spoke to the man who added the extra credit for free and connected to the bundle. He was very helpful and didn't even laugh at the thick women who can't top up the phone Wink

On the down side we have realised that not only can we not use the Internet on Skype for DS to call his Dad abroad as we have a basic model, he also can't call or text him with the bundle! So although he's having great fun texting me all day and my Mum, it's not going to be much good for the purpose that we wanted it for Hmm

Am out and away from wifi and the mobile data won't work. Have tried switching on and off and have switched the phone on and on. Any ideas?

Ghostsgowoooh · 12/08/2013 20:12

Most teenagers use or have a more capable phone than a basic phone imo, at least ds has and so does his friends and he's nearly 14. street cred and all Grin ds has a galaxy y on 02 that his dad bought and its a proper sturdy great little phone.

Trigglesx · 12/08/2013 20:47

I have a question for any with a galaxy Y. When you are starting to set up web, it tells you to text WEB to a number... can someone please give me that number - I've accidentally deleted it and can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

Tortoise · 12/08/2013 21:02

Truffle text WEB to 40127

Trigglesx · 12/08/2013 21:06

oh thank you!!!!

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:19

Will the WEB thingy be what I need to do on the Galaxy Fame then? It's so not working.

Trigglesx · 12/08/2013 21:24

mine wouldn't connect to internet at all until I did that and installed what they sent back.. still not connecting to my home wifi, but i'll eventually either sort that or stomp my feet Grin

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:28

I'm downloading the software update but need the wifi for that. Maybe a job for tomorrow.

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:33

Right I am being really stupid, where in the settings will I find the web messages?

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:35

phone now rebooting with a minion type character on it. Hope I haven't fooked the phone at the first hurdle Blush

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:37

Magenta we got a Galaxy Fame. I hadn't told ds about this phone at all, so would accept anything and when I was explaining about it, he sighed and said "phew I'm glad I didn't get the lumia as that is what everyone else has been getting and they don't like them. I like a Samsung."

magentastardust · 12/08/2013 21:45

Ooh the fame looks good-looks like it has a really good camera. I am away to try and get my Galaxy Y set up now that I have peace!

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:49

Phew finally got it all working. Thought we had a faulty phone.

Groovee · 12/08/2013 21:55

It's made me realise how much I miss my samsung. Wonder if ds wants an iPhone? Wink

DelayedActionMouseMaker · 12/08/2013 22:39

Ghostsgowooo, if you figure out how to get the phone to stop its beep every time you press a key I'd really loved to know, searched everywhere to find this function or the ability to change the ringtone and nadda.

afromom · 12/08/2013 22:55

It's in settings-profile-select profile-edit-scroll down to keypad tone-select mute

magentastardust · 12/08/2013 23:39

Okay this is embarrassing -set up bundle and credit etc no probs -can someone please tell me though where does the SD memory card go -I have the galaxy Y. I have found an online manual but it doesn't tell you where it goes for simplefolk like me!

magentastardust · 12/08/2013 23:41

okay found it!

DelayedActionMouseMaker · 13/08/2013 00:48

Afromom, do you have the Samsung e1190? Because mine doesn't have profile edit on it.

Groovee · 13/08/2013 07:55

There's a memory card? Blush Maybe I need to have a look through that box more.

I took the phone off ds last night as I knew he would sit on it all night and we go back to school tomorrow. So getting back into routine. We'll see how the coverage is on his walk to school.

fingersandthumbs · 13/08/2013 08:24

Thought we had everything sussed here and then read some of the other testers feedback about registering a bundle. I hadn't realised that the £10 top up didn't automatically mean that we had the £10 bundle. I'm used to dealing with a contract phone not a pay as you go so don't know if this is something that pay as you go customers automatically do. The phone worked, I topped up using the voucher, got a message telling me the amount of credit on the account, son could send texts, make calls, connect to the internet so it hadn't clicked that I needed to do anything else.
I rang the 40775 number at 8.00am this morning, spoke to a very nice, helpful adviser, who didn't laugh at me and despite the fact that the actual credit on the phone was around £7.00 (yes son, all of your friends and relatives know your telephone number now and that you haven't done anything exciting this summer holidays) has attached a £10 bundle. I can see that afromum had a similar issue so perhaps the instructions need to be a little clearer, that a £10 top up doesn't automatically link to a £10 bundle, you actually have to buy a bundle with your top up.
Customer services were easy to get hold of, polite, pleasant and checked that the top up card and my nectar card were all linked. In addition they suggested that security codes were set up on the account which was very easy to do.
Criticism - cost of call to customer services was, according to the voice message, up to 25p - not a lot but couldn't this be free or included in the bundle of minutes?

Groovee · 13/08/2013 08:28

I only knew I had to register a bundle because Vodafone offered a similar service when dd had a PAYG from them (my granny died and left £109 on the phone as she topped up every so often to keep the phone active despite never using it). And I had to note down when to call up.

This is why a rolling bundle would be a good idea. The 25p to call CS is a bit annoying too especially when other providers provide this service free.

Am off shopping in Sainsbury's today Grin
