As part of our partnership with B&Q, we're looking for 20 MNers who want to wave farewell to their unloved garden. Is it more of a jungle than a lawn? A patio that's seen better days? Or just a wizened window box?

Here is what B&Q say about their unloved gardens initiative: "This summer, we're launching a new initiative to help Britain say goodbye to its unloved rooms and gardens. Most homes have one - a spare room that's more of a cupboard, a tired and broken bathroom from a different era, even an overgrown garden that's become a jungle. With our vast range of home decoration products and simple expert advice, we want more people to see that making a big difference doesn't need to be difficult or expensive. Whether it's picking the right look, choosing the right products, at the right price or simply finding out how to make it happen, we're making sure you'll find it all under one roof at B&Q."

If you're selected to take part you'll:

  • Be sent a £300 B&Q gift card to spend as you wish on materials to transform your unloved garden
  • Need to be available to complete your garden revamp between 5-21 July (we appreciate that's not tonnes of time so please only sign up if you're up for the challenge!)
  • Write feedback on how your revamp is going during that time on a thread on MN
  • Need to send in photos to MNHQ of before, during and after the revamp

10 of the 20 participants may also need to film their revamp process on their smartphone (via an app we'll need you to download). Those MNers will receive an additional £25 B&Q gift card as a thank you for doing filming.

B&Q would also like participants to attend a You Can Do It class in store if possible - this would be free of charge but they're only available in certain stores. This isn't essential to taking part but please indicate on the sign up form (link below) which store you could get to if you would like to attend.

If you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Any queries, please post them here.

Thanks and good luck

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of very disappointed MNetters Sad

I've been checking my emails, I'd so love to be chosen, we've been planning what we would like to do with the garden since we moved in 2 years ago but haven't been able to afford it, this would be an amazing opportunity.

I think they all have to go to B&Q for approval so not expecting to hear anything today tbh. I am philosophical, all my plans remain plans and will be done eventually. This would allow me to do it all a bit quicker though.

Bugger, I didn't put tons of detail in as dd (16weeks) was whining and was worried it would shut before I'd entered, mine was quite vague. :( oh well, never mind. Will know for next time that war and peace is required Grin

I wonder how many people entered? I tried to work it out, but I suppose not everyone puts info on the chat thread.

I didn't put a lot of detail in either. I thought it said you didn't have to be specific.

Good luck everyone. Can't wait to see your photos.Smile

Mine wasn't detailed either, I don't think it has to be. I don't think we will hear today, maybe tomorrow?

I am not holding out much hope, but you have to be in it to win it!

True mad, I've just won £10 on my husbands deodorant can, enter a code and they gave you a driver and position in the formula one, if it came in exact they send you a cheque for £10. DH laughed when I retrieved his can from recycling to enter. Like you say you ave to be in it to win.

oooosh they're obviously locked into some planter-filled bunker; weighing us all up.

I think they should do a Next Top Model type reveal: divide us all into groups, then tell the groups whether or not they've won and then the losers get to cry on Elle McPwhoarsome or Tyra Banks. I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't win, if I got to cry on Tyra Banks.

Report
JaquelineHyde · 03/07/2013 00:02

Can I cry on and rub against Tyson Beckford please. If so them I am IN!

Report
ratbagcatbag · 03/07/2013 02:12

But then I'd have to be one of those people " thank you so much for an amazing opportunity, it's been a terrific journey" sniff, sniff, sob, all the time glaring daggers at you fortunate biatches who are still in the running.

Well; with the unloved rooms one, people were notified on the first day of the "fix" period. If this follows suit then it could be as late as Friday.

If anything, least this promotion has finally convinced me to get the mess sorted, even if not selected.

Report
JakeBullet · 03/07/2013 06:57

The last one gave me "vision", this one has clarified that vision. it will get done but might take longer if I don't get picked.
Not expecting to be chosen as my "vision" wasn't written down clearly enough.
Will be good to see what other people do though so will hang on I. This thread...or the feedback one.

Report
ChocChaffinch · 03/07/2013 09:06

will have no fingernails by Friday. however it's forecast hot hot hot so gardening time ahoy there's lots of stuff I can be doing with zero funds.
