This thread is for the 70 Mumsnetters who have been trying out the new Cadbury Egg n Spoon kid's Easter treat with their DCs. But we'd also like to hear from those of you who weren't part of the official MN product test but who have tried the Egg n Spoon chocolate treat.

Below are a few questions for you to answer but please feel free to add any other comments you may also have.

Mine came in the post today! Am sure that when ds gets back from school he'll be trying one, but I'm on a fast day so will have to wait.

But my first impression is that the packaging is very cute -I like the egg box presentation

First impressions:
DCs (8 and 9)thought there might be ice cream inside it, or that you might be able to do egg and spoon races with it!
Like the pics on the side instructing how to eat it, also the golden topping on the wrapping of it.
Not sure what flavour we had - it was milk chocolate with a milky mousse centre.
Taste: I thought it was rather sickly - more sticky than a mousse. DCs say the chocolate itself was on the soft side. They liked the flavour of the mousse (they thought it was white chocolate - was it?!). Size wise they think it was either a bit too small or just right. No more than 2cm bigger was the request!
They bit off the top part and thought it was great fun using the spoons to scoop out the middle.
They particularly liked the wrapping of it, that it made it attractive. They also like the fact that once you've had the middle, the outside is still intact and can be eaten. DS didn't like the mousse, thought it was too sticky and didn't have quite enough flavour.
They felt it was an extra treat as was "two puddings in one" - the mousse and the chocolate. That the mousse made it unique.
DCs would definitely recommend it as all their friends like chocolate AND mousse. I wouldn't as think is too sickly for adult tastes.
They also said that children younger than 2 shouldn't have it as the spoon could get stuck in their throats.

Dc' first reaction was that they had seen them advertised and wanted to try them. They thought the packaging was fab. I thought it was a little excessive and not very environmentally fiend,y, although it is good that it can be recycled.

They liked the shape and taste of the egg ( I though they wre all the same?) and bit the top off before using the spoon. They said it tasted fluffy and yummy.

I think it is mo re of a treat and not sure I would buy it more than once around Easter time. I would definitely recommend it, if on,y for the novelty value but it would be nice if there were four spoons rather than 2 as I ate one along with 2 dc and had to use a teaspoon ( end of the world alert!)

we bought them from tescos yesterday,i love cadburys chocolate(usually)
the casing was lovely but the inner whippy mousse was too rich and sickly i didnt like it and wont be buying anymore,
lovely packaging though
the kids liked them and have kept the spoons and egg boxs.

DS was very excited with the box - it was very cute! He loved the spoon and thought it great fun digging into the egg.

Not sure about which flavour we had - it was a pale mousse. DS loved it and scoffed two in quick succession, but I didn't like it at all - like others have said it was very sickly and rich. I wouldn't buy them for myself.

I wouldn't buy this as a "regular" treat for DS, but may buy them for him at Easter time.

The packaging made me smile. I really liked it - DD (6) immediately seized on the Cadbury branding and wanted to try it. Is suppose they are overpackaged, really - but then so are most chocolate eggs, and at least it is all recyclable.

There are different flavours ? Does that mean that the 2 we have left are different? I am tempted to find out, now but DS would kill me. DD and I both had one for pudding after lunch and they seemed like standard Cadbury chocolate mousse inside an egg. DD liked eating it with a spoon (she worked out the bite the top off bit - I was trying to break it with the spoon - clearly neither of us stopped to read the instructions ) and then munching the shell. No comment was made on either mousse or chocolate so I assume they both tasted as she expected - they certainly seemed like standard Cadbury product to me.

I put DD's in an egg cup, which she loved as an idea, but it is too small - for that to work it needs to be proper egg sized.

I may add more feedback when DS(10) has tried his one - he is away ATM.

With a spoon, and then picking up and eating the shell. DD liked it. I think there should be 4 spoons though - if they are going to be sold as a pack of 4 then I might buy them instead of pudding, but in that case all 4 are going to be eaten at once and we would need 4 spoons. Even eating them in 2's it depends on my not losing the spoons in between times. I suspect the spoons will end up in DD's play kitchen.

• Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not?

Possibly, as the spoon/mousse thing makes it more of a "pudding" rather than a "treat" such as a creme egg.

Can't see it coming up, but if it did I would say that they were fun, and that DD liked them. One thing I won't be getting them for is Easter egg trails, etc though, as they only really "work" with their cute packaging and spoons, so they need to stay as a pack of 4.

We liked the packaging. Nice and bright, the egg box was fun and it was obviously Cadbury's which drew the kids in straight away. They both liked the look of the eggs and the spoon.

Ours was just a plain chocolate mousse. My eldest (who is very fussy) bit the top off and immediately said 'Brilliant, can I have another one after?'. The youngest was a bit more dubious. He liked the outside chocolate but not the mousse inside so he didn't finish his.

• How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?

The eldest (age 10) loved it. He got the idea straight away biting off the top and using the spoon to scoop out the insides. He said it was much more fun having the spoon than just biting into the egg. The youngest (age 6) liked the idea but just didn't like the middle bit.

• Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not?

I don't know that they saw it as an additional treat just another type of chocolate to pester me to buy. It's definately a novelty and my eldest is already asking for more now that this pack is finished.

Yes I'd recommend it. It's a fun idea especially around Easter and being Cadbury's it tastes good too.

ohh - were there different flavours? I had no idea? They really enjoyed it, they disappeared in 5 seconds and they all said they wanted another, so I guess the size was too small!

First two ate with the spoon, 2nd two had to eat just biting into - a shame that the pack only came with 2 spoons, I have 4 kids so 2 were disappointed to not get a spoon.

The novelty of the spoon (for the 2 that got one) definitely made it more special.

I liked the novel packaging, quite different from other chocolate eggs on sale at the moment.

We had the eggs with the vanilla mousse centre. Size was ample, as it was quite sweet, but the texture of the mousse was pleasant and nice to eat in small amounts.

• How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?

Eaten as per the instructions on the packaging. Yes it was fun to eat as it was new and different. There are three of us in the family but can see it may cause problems if you bought the pack for 4 children given there are only 2 spoons.

Yes, more of a special treat, I thi k because of the packaging and the spoons!

Would recommend, probably for the novelty factor as well as the taste.

Well, ds has demolished an egg and so has dh. Ours had choc mousse in the middle.

DS was absolutely enchanted with the whole thing, and says 'this child really, really, really likes your eggs, and can you make more so I can eat them. They were yummy, and my favourite part was the fluffy bit in the middle. It was really exciting because of the spoon and biting the top off. I didn't know what would be in the middle and it was a suprise. It felt like a big treat because of eating with a spoon'.

Dh says the middle was a bit sweet for him, and he seemed as entranced with the spoon

I thought the size seemed about right.

• I loved the packaging DS was less impressed.

• We had the eggs with vanilla mousse. DS isn't a fan of creme eggs and didn't like this either, he said the inside was too sweet and only ate a couple of bites. I tried what he had left and I found it very sickly

• DS tried to eat it with the spoon. He liked that bit. It needs 4 spoons though as if you were giving it to children as a treat they each need a spoon. Plus spoon dirty after use and a bit small to go through the dishwasher.

• No he didn't find it a special treat as he didn't like it and was a bit unimpressed by the packaging.

• Sorry I wouldn't recommend. Prefer the mini size creme eggs and everyone I know with more than one child would fight over the spoons and then lose them

We loved the little purple egg box, which shouted Cadbury to us from the start, so we knew we would get nice chocolate (we don't really like any other sort). The children thought the eggs looked yummy and couldn't wait to try out the spoons.

They tried the milky mousse centred eggs - we weren't aware there were other types, and that is what was sent to us.They thought the size was good and wouldn't have wanted it any bigger. Both kids DS(7) and DD(8) found it delicious and are keen to have the other two as soon as I allow! I found the filling rather sweet and probably wouldn't choose to eat it again myself.

• How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?They bit the tops off and then held the egg in their hand and scooped out the inside with the spoon before polishing off the rest of the egg. I was concerned that the egg may melt in the hand holding it, but the process didn't last long enough for that to happen.... It would have been fun for them to fit into an egg cup, but the eggs are slightly too narrow to do that.

• Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not?They found it a fun novelty and would like to have it again, but it wouldn't be a regular occurence. I think the novelty would soon wear off if it was available year round. We talked about when they would want to have it and they said they would be happy to have a box of eggs each instead of a big easter egg. DS doesn't like to eat chocolate with a "face", so chocolate bunnies, chicks, etc are out of bounds for him at Easter, so this would be perfect for him.

Other points: We would not have it as a dessert at meal times - not nutritious enough for that.It should be clear on the packaging that there are only 2 spoons, as it may come as a disappointment to some, especially if they are eating it out of home. The packaging seems a bit excessive, but it can all be recycled and the purple box will be used for craft in the meantime, so not a major problem. Pricing would be key if we were to buy it other than as an Easter treat.

Really good. I love the box, very cute. Why only two spoons though? If you had more than two children, you'd have fights!
DS wanted to eat an egg straight away but we waited until after dinner.

The vanilla one. DS couldn't tell it was vanilla and said it could do with a bit more flavour. He suggested jam!
The size was fine for my 5 year old. Plenty for me too actually, as I did find it quite sweet

Exactly as suggested on the box. He enjoyed it but actually not as much as I thought he would. He liked it as much as any other chocolate, probably.

Not really! I thought he'd like the novelty of it but I think he just wasn't that bothered about the shape the chocolate was in, just that it was chocolate!

Maybe. I might buy them again, if I was visiting friends at Easter and wanted to take a small treat for example but I probably wouldn't buy for DS again. And for me, they are not a patch on Creme Eggs which I love!

First impressions? Really loved the dinky little egg box they are presented in.

Flavour? Not sure what flavour it was, it looked like a creamy mousse and the three of us liked it. Not as sweet as a cream egg which is a good thing. The size was just right for a treat. The chocolate shell was creamy and softer than the shell of a cream egg, more like kinder baby chocolate. I love Cadbury chocolate so was a little disappointed the flavour of the chocolate didn't come through as much as usual.

Special treat? Yes, because of the way it is presented it makes it like a petite pudding rather than a normal choc bar. DS started off with the spoon but once the middle was eaten he just picked it up and put it in his mouth.

Other comments? There should either be 4 spoons or no spoons, it's a bit daft supplying 2.

Recommend? Yes, for an Easter treat maybe instead of a big egg, would make a nice wee gift at that time of year.

Hi, we were "official testers" and ours arrived on Saturday. Both small people were most impressed and excited when they found out they were official chocolate testers and that the postman was delivering chocolate eggs!
We tried the Egg and Spoon Chocolate Mousse flavour.
To eat it, we decided we'd do it the proper egg and spoon way and sat the eggs in an eggcup and broke the top off the egg, dippy egg and soldiers style which they found funny.
The top broke off easily when tapped with the spoon, revealing all the chocolate mousse inside, which they declared lovely and soft.
The word "yummy!" was heard between mouthfuls as well.
The texture and size was just right for them, not too much to make it sickly.
The grown ups of the house are of the opinion that the chocolate was lovely, and the mousse inside was a "proper tasting chocolatey" mousse, unlike some that you can get that lack a distinct "proper" chocolate taste and can taste slightly artificial.
We all liked the fun element of the eggs as well, as it was definitely more fun and a treat to 'normal' chocolate sitting them in the egg cups!
So all in all, an all round winner and we'll definitely be buying again, and I'd recommend it to others.

Ours arrived this morning feeling like it had just come from the fridge. They are attractively packaged but I expected the box to be bigger for some reason.

I tried one but did not like it as it was far too sweet and so I gave it to my husband who is a chocolate addict. He really liked it but commented that it was too fiddly to eat with the spoon. He would rather just bite it.

My children haven't tried it yet and I will try to remember to update this when they have. I can tell you that I would not buy this product for them as it is much too sweet.

What were your first impression of the Cadbury Egg and Spoon?

We loved the packaging in the egg box, which my dd called very cute. We had seen the advert on tv and so were keen to try them

We had the vanilla cream mousse. Everyone enjoyed the taste and ds said that he loved the mousse as the consistency was a lot lighter than a cream egg. The size was about right, although DS wanted more but I am not so keen on them having bigger treats.

We ate as described on the packet by biting off the top and scooping out the centre. We found it fun to eat as it was new and different. The only thing that we particularly disliked about this was that there were only two spoons.

Yes my children found it to be a special treat as it was a real novelty with spoons and packaging.

I would recomend as it is a fun treat. Ideal for after a meal.

Dd was very excited about them but thought they were real eggs and was surprised that they were chocolate. She was very excited by the little spoons, more so than the eggs.

For me, my first impression was surprise at how many calories were in one eggs, especially as they are rather small.

She tried the milk chocolate eggs with fluffy milky mouse centre. She said they were really nice and actually ate two straight away (usually she is not keen on chocolate so I was surprised. )

She unwrapped the egg, bit the top off, ate the insides with the spoon, then asked me if she could eat the shell as it confused her a bit. She then spent ages playing with the spoon. She seemed to love it, for me though would prefer them in a pack of 2 or even 1 as at nearly 200 calories each it seemed a lot of calories in a box. Also dd asked why there were only 2 spoons for 4 eggs - good point.

Yes, it was special as very unusual concept and she really liked the way of eating it - could see these with different flavours as a great treat.

Yes I would recommend, but would highlight how many calories they have but would also say as a very occasional treat they are good - get the calories down to nearer 100 cals and these would be a better treat - highlight the great milk content then even better!

I have tried 2 flavours - the white mousse centre and the chocolate mousse centre. The one with the chocolate centre was a bit nsickly but I really liked the white mousse centre!
I like the packaging and the way they can be eaten - buit why only 2 spoons when there's 4 eggs?!

Packaging was cute, looks like a treat certainly. Although there were concerns in our house that the eggs weren't all the same size, so arguments about getting the bigger ones had already started, when I realised it was the way they sit in the packaging. Two have lumps making those eggs sit higher, the other two the eggs sit lower.

• Which flavour did your children try? What did they think of the taste/texture/size etc? We were sent the vanilla one. We all thought the inside was a bit sickly sweet, much sweeter than a creme egg. I liked the top of the egg being soft enough to bite off. DS said the egg tasted like kinder chocolate.

Bit the top of and then spooned it out, leaving the egg intact to eat at the end. Needs 4 spoons though to avoid arguments. DC suggested 2 spoons meant he was supposed to eat two at once!

Yes for an easter thingy, but would explain in advance about the 2 spoons for 4 eggs.

Ooh can I join in. Dh bought a box home last weekend.

Dh tried to kid out egg hating ds he was going to have to start Kearning to like eggs by disguising the box. I have to admit I wasn't that impressed at first but that's cause I don't overly like cadburys chocolate & I hate crime eggs.

I didn't know there were different flavours. This one was like a chocolate mousse inside. I liked the mousse but thought the choc itself was a bit soft. The children loved it.

I suppose it was a bit more of a treat as it was bigger than the amount if chic they usually have and seemed more of a dessert than a snack.

We just eat them normally. Not sure what happened to the spoon. Dh just gave us the eggs. I don't think there were enough spoons to go around.

Yes I'd rev contend them as a crime eggs alternative and maybe in a have you tried them type conversation but I wouldn't go out of my way as there is much nicer choc out there.

Didn't know there were different flavours- we had the ones in the purple packaging. They loved the look of them and the tiny spoons. 4 spoons would have been better than 2 though.

Totally- it was new and eggsiting . We will be getting them again.

So I received the white chocolate version through the post on Saturday morning. Coincidently the same day my hubby and son bought the chocolate version the same day. So we've tested both.

First impressions: Loved the little egg box that they came in. It all looked very attractive and quite cute too. Although four eggs, two spoons? If there's four of you that could be problematic. I suppose two could scoop and two could lick the mousse out........

We unwrapped the egg and tried pulling the top off but it does sort of collapse under the pressure so biting it off is probably the way to go. Children especially loved the idea of scooping out the mousse filling with the little spoon. It's a great novelty. Whether that novelty will wear off remains to be seen but it was certainly one of the things they liked most about the product. Lots of giggles.

With regard to taste and texture. The chocolate is very soft but it doesn't lose shape or melt too quickly as it's being held. The mousse is a good firm texture, not too sloppy or full of air. The children loved the taste of both the white and the milk chocolate. Personally for me it was a little too sweet and by the time I'd finished it was starting to be a little sickly. That said I don't like creme eggs and this would be a handy occasional replacement for me. It's probably a child/adult thing but I think this would be a better product if the mousse could be less sickly sweet and I don't think that would put children off or make it more of an adult product.

Overall, this product was a hit in our household. I'd say the children would probably give it 9 out 10 and the adults would give it 7 out of 10.

• We got the Milk chocolate eggs.. My 5 year thought the idea ws really funny and love scooping out the filling. He wanted a 2nd straight away but we wouldn't let him :)

• My son loved the idea of scopping out the middle the only problem was he didn't want the outside when done it had melted in his hand slightly and didn't want to eat it.

• Yes a special treat it is very different and unlike any other chocolate egg on the market

• Yes would recommend thought it is a really clever idea.
