Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

very easy after the first couple of times

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?

only 5 minutes, which is longer than I expected

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc

It's fine, not too sticky

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

I used Bio Oil during my first pregnancy, but had a reaction to it this time

EnglishGirlApproximately · 11/01/2013 20:42

Q1 - I find application fairly easy as the gel is quite thick.

Q2 - I would say between three and five minutes. I'm guilty of being impatient and found it felt more noticeable when I hadn't waited properly and just got dressed.

Q3 - Gel feels quite thick which I like. I don't ever feel like it is going to run or soak into clothing. It feels like it will stay where I put it.

Q4 - I have used bio oil on other scars but not for my section scar as I don't find it easy to use.

Like others I have used Kel - cote on an old scar on my hand. It's about 5 years old and although pale still raised. I've seen a small improvement of the feel already and have high hopes that further applications will lessen this scar too.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Fine once I had worked out how to open it (just ended up cutting the end off with scissors)

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
A couple of minutes - shorter than expected

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc
My scar area is quite numb so couldn't feel it go on at all

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?
None

mrsgordonfreeman · 11/01/2013 23:00

I'm 3 years post CS and still have a horrible red scar. My DH has also been using it, for a year old appendix scar that he's very sensitive about.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Very easy.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
A bit longer than I expected.

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc
It was quite pleasant.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

None, I didn't know such a product existed.

shellybobs · 12/01/2013 00:08
  1. Seemed to thin out the warmer it got or when it came into contact with skin so it was a bit tricky trying to stop it dribbling down your finger before you applied it to the scar but there is a knack
  1. If I lay down and let it air dry not long but if I was up and about then my 'extra tummy' prevented it from drying for a while so had to put time aside to apply the gel AND wait for it to dry before getting on with other things.
  1. Didn't find the gel sticky at all but my skin had a strange sheen like quality to it after application rather like when you get egg white on your hands.
  1. Had previously been bought Bio Oil to try but could stand how oily it was
bluepostdepot · 12/01/2013 20:33

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Easy, found it quite thick but no problem to spread along my scar.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
About 2-3 minutes. I expected it to take longer to dry.

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc
Fairly thick but didn't find it sticky.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?
Never tried any before.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/01/2013 21:37
  1. Easy, but messy.
  1. It usually takes between 6 and 10 mins, probably because it's hard to spread the gel thinly enough for faster drying. This is longer than I have time for.
  1. Tacky to touch after drying.
  1. No.
Lamazeroo · 13/01/2013 09:23

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Easy.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
Probably 1-2 minutes. Less than expected.

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc
Not unpleasant at all. No negative issues.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?
Not Kelp-cote. Twenty years ago I had an injury to my hand and had microsurgery to repair tendons. I saw a marvellous physiotherapist for some months afterwards. Part of her treatment was using silicone gel on my fingers to reduce scarring and increase mobility. It was amazing, and I have very little scarring or loss of movement.

Squigglywiggly · 13/01/2013 10:06

I am 12 weeks post c section and started using gel from 21st December.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

I find it fairly difficult to apply as have to fight instinct to rub it in.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?

It takes about 5 mins to dry, which was a bit longer than expected, but not a problem as would put it on at beginning of getting dressed

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc

The gel feels a little sticky but quite smooth in texture and dries to a kind of coating over scar a bit like nail varnish.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

I've never tried Kelo-cote before. I have used BioOil before but it just appears to moisturise.

happyjustobeme · 13/01/2013 14:44

1 really easy to apply and no problem applying it At all

2 just took a minute or so to dry

3 haven't used this product or anything similar before

Nigglenaggle · 13/01/2013 20:05

I would like to add to my Q2 that although it does take more time than I have to dry and I often don't wait, it doesnt seem to be a problem. It still feels like theres a layer of gel over the scar when it is dry, and it doesnt mark or otherwise injure my clothes. Anyway, I am hoping it should still work....

mrsb1975 · 14/01/2013 00:26

Q1 Glides quite smoothly, hard to gauge right amount. But like previous comments like that it isn't too runny like oils I've tried, so you can just concentrate on where its needed

Q2. Don't know if it was just me but it didn't feel "wet" to the skin, so was hard to gauge,as it equally stated not to rub in, I didn't want to keep checking with my finger. I'd say about 5mins, maybe using too much

Q3. Little sticky, but not too off putting

Q4. Just Bio oil but not often

LaVitaBellissima · 15/01/2013 12:01

Q1 - very easy to apply and very little goes a long way

Q2 - a minute or so

Q3 - sticky at first but dries so well

Q4 - Bio oil which I thought worked great to minimise stretch marks but didn't do much once they were there (I forgot my thighs when pregnant so it's the only place I have them

Pheebs1980 · 15/01/2013 16:30

Q1 I found it easy to apply although quite thick and sticky and had to leave a day as friction made my scar sore.

Q2 it dried really quickly - about 1 to 2 minutes. Was dreading waiting around for it to dry with a super active 7 month old baby!!

Q3 found it very sticky - a bit too sticky for my liking.

Q4 had not heard of kelo-cote. Was using bio oil on scar previously.

raaboonah · 16/01/2013 18:18

a bit late the to party and i've name changed - does this cause an issue?

Q1 very easy

Q2. a few minutes - in the mornings i just put my make up on while it dries and then get dressed and at night do my NY resolution of actually taking my make up off and moisturising and by the time i've done that its dry

Q3. not too sticky and feels nice and soft when dry

Q4. i'd tried the stick on patches on some different scars which never really worked and just fell off.

feeling excited about the idea of something calming the red beast and looking forward to the results.

Ninjacat · 16/01/2013 20:02

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply? - Pretty easy

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected? - Bit quicker than expected

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc - Not too thick or gloopy, felt quite light

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)? - I have used Bio Oil in the past

The next set of feedback questions will be added around the first week of February.

km479 · 16/01/2013 21:36

7 months post section.

  1. Fairly easy although initially dispensed more than necessary.
  1. 2 minutes once I got used to applying it very thinly.
  1. Quite sticky but still manageable. As long as you use a thin layer, it's ok.
  1. Tried a mamma mio scar product - cant remember the name. It did nothing except smell nice! It was very much like bio oil in consistency.
KatieBMumsnet · 17/01/2013 09:38

raaboonah don't worry I've found you

tdm · 17/01/2013 10:40
  1. no problems
  2. dries a bit quicker than 5 minutes, luckily, because 5 minutes is an eternity!
  3. sticky but ok
  4. nothing else tried
badgerfish · 17/01/2013 10:42

Q1. Very easy once I got used to it. Kept using a little too much in the beginning.

Q2. A couple of minutes. This was quicker than I expected.

Q3. Took a while to get used to. It was a bit gooey and sticky at first but once dried it feels nice and soft.

Q4. I had never tried any. Never heard of Kelo-Cote.

utterlyslutterly · 17/01/2013 10:45

Q1 - easy to apply, once you get the hang of the amount needed. I have experimented with amounts and found that you only need a line layer.
Q2 - I found it took about 5 mins to dry, as I would've expected.
Q3 - I found the gel a bit sticky at first but have got used to it and like the protection it offers my scar against my clothes
Q4 - Hadn't used anything else on the scar but did think about getting a silicon dressing.

Northernexile · 17/01/2013 10:49

Apologies that I'm a little late adding my feedback as I didn't start using the gel till after Christmas. I was away when it first arrived.

Q1) It was easy to apply, glided on without any trouble over the lumpy bits of the scar.

Q2) It takes three or four minutes to dry; as expected really. The first couple of times I probably applied too much and it took a little longer, but now it's fine.

Q3) The texture was slightly stickier and thicker than I expected, but it dries on nice and smoothly and you don't even notice that it's there. I prefer Kelo-cote's texture to that of runnier products such as Bio-Oil, because you don't need to use as much and it's easier to control the application and get it where it needs to go!

Q4) I had never tried any other product on my (10 month old) CS scar before using Kelo-cote. I have been a little squeamish about even touching it, never mind rubbing something into it that may irritate it! I haven't had any problems like that with Kelo-cote though, and I am starting to see an improvement now.

I have used Bio-Oil on an old old scar on my arm before, but it didn't seem to reduce it at all, just moisturise it! I have tried a bit of the Kelo-cote on that too, and it seems to be starting to flatten it, which is great!

upthehammers · 17/01/2013 10:59

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Very easy although took me a little while to work out the right amount to use for my long scar

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
About 4/5 minutes which is less than I expected considering the size of the scar.

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc
Stickier than expected but like others I'm grateful for this as it's not runny and therefore extra hard to apply to where it's needed.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?
No

(9months and 26months post section)

Axlemaimi · 17/01/2013 11:03

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?
Very easy.

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?
Bit longer at times, especially just after shower.

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc
Felt fine when applying, bit sticky whilst it dried, once dry you wouldn't know it was there.

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?
Bio oil and silicone sheets, Kelo-cote showing much better results in such a short time.

GirlsonFilm · 17/01/2013 11:04
  1. Easy to apply, quite a nice feel
  2. 2-3 mins, slightly shorter than expected, but every second counts in the morning when getting self and children ready
  3. It did get a bit sticky if I didn't move quickly when applying it.
  4. Not on my CS scar but I have used bio-oil previously.
