This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who are trying out the new silicone c-section gel from Kelo-cote.

Below are the first set of feedback questions, more will be added at a later date. Please answer the questions below and add any other comments you may have.

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £200 John Lewis voucher.

Q1 How easy or difficult did you find Kelo-cote to apply?

Q2. On average how long did you find it took Kelo-cote to dry? Was this a longer or shorter time than you expected?

Q3. How did you find the feel of the gel? e.g. texture, stickiness etc

Q4. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried Kelo-cote or any other scar reducing product before? If so, which one(s)?

The next set of feedback questions will be added around the first week of February.

Thanks,
MNHQ

  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?

I have noticed a definite improvement in my scar (and with photos to prove). I must admit, I was a sceptic when I started using kelo-cote, because I used another silicon product prior to this for over 15 months. Plus my scar was 17 months old when the testing started. I really thought I have benefitted all there is to benefit from any silicon products, so this marked improvement comes as a complete pleasant surprise.

  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?

I find it very easy to incorporate into my daily routine. Always before I brush my teeth - so day and night, religiously.

  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?

My tube of kelo-cote is quite empty.

  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?

My scar is fading and isn't itchy any more

  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?

I apply after my bath and lie on bed for 5 mins to let it dry, so pretty easy.

  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?

I have just less than 1/3 left

LittleAbruzzenBear · 06/02/2013 13:57

Q1. There has definitely been an improvement to my scar. It is a pale pink now and the left side is hardly visible. It is smoother too.
Q2. I don't even think twice now about using the gel, it is in my daily routine without any inconvenience.
Q3. I would say I have just under half a tube left.

princesssugar · 06/02/2013 14:31

1 it is less itchy and has changed colour gone less red, so it looks older
2 it takes too long to try, especially with having the csection "overhang". I will try the hairdryer tip though. Otherwise it is fairly straight forward to slot into the day.
3 at a guess about a third left.

helibee · 06/02/2013 14:38
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
yes, my scar is definitely less bumpy and not as itchy
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
fairly easy to incorporate but some days annoying waiting for it to dry
  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
just under 1/3 tube left

  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
Yes there is a definate improvement. It is much less red and it looks smoother. I'll be interested to see whether it stays that way once we finish using the product
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
tricky in the sense that i have forgotten it a few times. Waiting for it to dry can be a pain, but will try the hairdryer idea!
  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
I have about a third of a tube left - i assume that is enough to see me to the end of the trial?

thanks

Ninileigh · 06/02/2013 15:03
  1. Its a bit less red and bumpy, seems to helping a lot.
  2. Easy, out of shower in the morning, put it on, just as i would have done with a moisturiser.
  3. I have about a 1/4 of the tube left. Hope it lasts till the end!!
Clareada · 06/02/2013 15:06
  1. yes the scar is definitely smoother than it was
  2. easy when fitting into normal routine. Forget to do it when I'm rushing around and kept forgetting to do it when I went on holiday
  3. just a little bit (maybe a quarter)
Katielou75 · 06/02/2013 15:19
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
Yes, it's paler and a bit smoother (though it wasn't too bad to begin with)
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
Easy, just sone at the same time as moisturiser.
  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
About half ish.
piemistress · 06/02/2013 15:40

Mant apologies for delay, have had a few issues at home! Here are my answers for the first round of questions:

  1. I found it quite easy to apply but it took a few goes to work out how much I needed to use. Was a bit thick.

2.) About five mins but I incorporated ut into my daily routine so was no hassle to wait for it to dry whilst I waited for my moisturiser to sink in!

3.) Felt sticky but was fine after it had dried

4.) Not on my scar no, but have been using vitamin e oil on my son's chicken pox and Mollescum scars

shellybobs · 06/02/2013 15:46
  1. Yes my scar seems paler, less bumpy, less itchy and I don't itch anymore
  1. It's easy to incorporate on a night as I don't mind waiting for it to dry mornings are tougher as I'm much busier
  1. I probably have about a third if a tube left
mummylovesawine · 06/02/2013 15:47

1-definitely helping. Really pleased! Less bumpy.
2-really easy to incorporate. Just put on after a shower- too easy!
3-about 1/4 of a tube

Faunanflora · 06/02/2013 16:04
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?

The main area of scar tissue (about 7 inches) is lighter in colour and is not as sensitive as it was although it is still very raised. One strange effect is that the scar now feels more rubbery - some people have said softer but I don't feel that, my scar feels like medium hardness latex. The smaller scar area, of about 7mm has nearly gone completely

  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?

Easy, I put it on and then do my night -time/morning routine such as brushing my teeth, fixing my hair etc and it is usually drier by that time. However, I have noticed that although I am using the amount recommended on a large scar area, the area remains slightly sticky all of the time unless it is washed off.

  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?

I have just under 1/2 a tube left.

MumtoF · 06/02/2013 16:17
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
It is marginally less red and a little less irritated but still is a nightmare with tights or tight trousers with a zip.
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
Yes, very easy in the mornings post shower. Night time more of a faff as don't want to wait for it to dry so have to remember to do it before cleaning teeth! At night do you have to wash off the morning stuff before applying?
  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
Not very much but my scar is quite long, red and raised so needs more than the recommended amount . Do I contact Katie for another tube.....?
nushcar · 06/02/2013 17:07
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?

It is perhaps less raised, but to be honest, that could just have happened over time anyway.

  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?

Fine, just squeeze along scar and do the rest of my getting ready malarky (apply body lotion, face cream etc) until it dries. It only takes a couple of minutes.

  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?

Bottle is just about finished, but I do have two c-section scars.

Bearfrills · 06/02/2013 18:05

Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
It's a bit smoother and paler but that's about it.

Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
A bit of a faff to be honest, especially waiting for it to dry when I'm usually in a rush and have two small children clinging to me. I don't have a hairdryer ...

Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
About a third of a tube.

whomovedmychocolate · 06/02/2013 18:14

1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way? No but interestingly DH has nicked some for his hernia scar and IS finding it helpful GRRRRR!

2. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
Not particularly, takes a while to dry.

3. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
About a 1/3rd I'd say.

Willowisp · 06/02/2013 18:15
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
It has faded & looks less angry...sort of cleaner
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine ?

I've found it a bit of a pain. I think had I not been signed up to test it, I probably would have given up. Which is ridiculous on my behalf !

  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?

Difficult to tell as can't see through the tube, but though the other day, starting to run low.

titan · 06/02/2013 18:46
  1. No. It's keloid and worsening
  2. Easy
  3. Probably 1/3
Piggyleroux · 06/02/2013 18:51
  1. Yes, dramatically. My scar was raised and itchy, but since applying Kelo-cote, it has become much less raised and is not itchy at all.
  2. Easy. i apply it after a shower and do the rest of my personal care routine whilst waiting for it to dry.
  3. I have less than a third of the tube left.
pod3030 · 06/02/2013 18:54
  1. an improvement, it's not so sensitive and angry, i can wear jeans without having to rip them off when i get home.
2.easy, i slick a tiny wisp on first thing and last thing, i don't bother to dry it and put my clothes/pjs straight over, but then i only use a tiny amount.
  1. over half a tube left.
GiraffesMum · 06/02/2013 19:35
  1. My scar is flatter, it doesn't itch anymore and is paler.
  2. It has been easy to incorporate into my routine.
  3. About 1/2 left - I was surprised as I thought I was using lots!
KiwiMumofTwo · 06/02/2013 19:47
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
Yes, less pink and more closed-up looking.
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
Difficult, I have only managed to do it once a day as I have a toddler and a baby.
  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
1/4 a tube. This is partly why I only do it once instead of twice a day. May scar is particularly long.
Squiglettsmummy2bx · 06/02/2013 20:02
  1. Big improvement. My scar is lighter, flatter & it no longer itches. It was driving me crazy before.
  2. Quite easy. I forgot a few times when we wee battling the norivirus & I felt like death warmed ip but other than that I just do it as part if my morning & night time routines.
  3. About half a tube left, maybe a bit less than that. Surprised how far the tiny tube goes.
princessnumber2 · 06/02/2013 20:12
  1. Have you noticed any improvement in your scar since using Kelo-cote at all, if so in what way?
Not really I'm afraid. But it wasn't that bad to begin with and I find it hard to apply in non-shaved areas.
  1. Have you found using Kelo-cote easy or difficult to incorporate into your daily routine?
doesn't take long but i found it hard to apply for above reason.
  1. Approximately how much product do you have left (1/3rd tube / 1/2 tube etc)?
About half.
