I'm finding the same thing Jins it's really annoying and has so far spattered lots of the kitchen! not really what you want at all...I'm going off this product and it's largely because the bottle!

GetKnitted · 10/12/2012 09:49

Hooray, managed to pick up the Method this weekend, and as there is always a wash waiting to be done, it has been tested immediately

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
It has washed well, it looked very compact for 25 washes. The pump is interesting, it would definitely stop me from putting too much in by accident... although the first pump went all over the adjacent cupboard door by accident... maybe I'm just accident prone.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Not so far, other than the price unfortunately, it is twice as expensive per wash than our usual detergent at full price and we usually buy in bulk when our usual detergent is on sale.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I liked the fragrance, it was very light (air pur) and it cleaned a full load of washing without a hitch.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I would recommend it to my mum who has very sensitive skin, but plenty of money.

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 10/12/2012 09:53

I'm having the same problem as Jins and GoodKing. How am I supposed to measure out doses when it's spluttering into the drawer? We're not on the last dregs, there's at least 1/4 of the bottle left!

Also getting a bit annoyed with the bottle for pre-treating. A squirt is hard to aim well and I'm using too much.

It also failed spectacularly to get tomato pasta sauce out of DS's white shirt at the weekend even though it went in the wash within an hour.

GetKnitted · 10/12/2012 09:54

Hmm the price listed on the survey is half the price I found it for online, so clearly at half price it would make economic sense as well.

theladywiththelamp · 10/12/2012 10:27

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?

It is small which is good if you dont have a lot of space and really quick to use with the pump. Also, you manage to use the entire bottle with the type of pump, so dont feel you have wasted any. I do like the fact the product and packaging is environmentally friendly.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?

The packaging does not specifically mention whether it is non bio, which is important if you have children/sensitive skin etc. I know it has this whizz-bang plant technology, but at the end of the day, when youre in the supermarket rushing to get all your shopping, you dont have time to really inspect the bottle to see if it is non-bio. Im still not sure if it is!
Pricing - price point needs to be marginally lower to compete with other products.
The option of a bigger bottle (40 washes?) would be good too for those who have the space and wash copious amounts!

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?

I didnt notice a fragrance, I would probably like something a bit more obvious as I like to know my clothes are clean with an obvious 'clean' smell. I found the cleaning power ok, probably on par with other (non-bio) products.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?

I would if it is on sale - at £6 it is pricey if you are in a hard water area and need extra pumps, therefore less than 25 washes. But if the price was lower I would recommend it for ease of use, and lack of wastage involved.

I've had mine about a 5 days & have done four loads & a hand-wash.
Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I like its small size (often do shopping on foot with pram rather than by car) and the fact that it should dispense the correct amount for a load. When pouring most washing liquid I imagine there is a fair bit of waste through overdosing.
Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
I have been very impressed, although I am not sure what the RRP is, as others have mentioned it is expensive. If it compares favourably with Ecover for price & environmental impact then I would be very apply to switch.
Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
The fragrance is lovely. Can't fault the cleaning power, which seems to have dealt with the outcome of a leaky nappy well!
Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Yes.

Cyclebump · 10/12/2012 11:17

So, the ultimate test... The entire adult squad's honking and filthy rugby kit...

Done 10 shirts at a time they came out smelling good and clean. Extra impressive given that there was no fabric conditioner and they have to be washed inside out.

MTBMummy · 10/12/2012 11:51

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I liked the design of the bottle and the packaging, it takes up a lot less space than bulking tablets or other liquids

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
I'd be curious to know what it costs, but overall I've been very impressed with it.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I liked the smell of it, but found the cleaning power to be a little lacking, we had a take-away curry during the testing, and the oil from the curry got onto the table cloth, and even though we individually treated the area with the curry marks it did not wash out. so that table cloth was re washed with my standard detergent and pre-treater and that did the job. That single instance aside, I found it handled all the other washes we gave it admirably.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Yes, I think it's a good product that works well.

Pheebs1980 · 10/12/2012 12:00

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I loved the size and the idea of no measuring cap (always messy and wasteful). The pump is easy to use especially if you have to be holding baby!

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Probably the price as Method tends to be expensive!

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
Loved the smell! Not too over powering but very pleasant. It cleans just as well as my other wash powders.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I would probably recommend it if it is reasonably priced and I continue to remain impressed by it.

RubbishCrackerPuller · 10/12/2012 12:03

Sorry has taken me a bit of time to get around to writing the review, but I have manged to do 7 washes in that time. I was eyeing the Method stuff up in Waitrose a while back (usually use Ecover), so was over the moon to get the chance to try some for free.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
Compact is good, and all brands seems to be heading that way so best to stay on the curve. Pump has worked so far and seems easy to dispense, but like some others have commented I do wonder what will happen when it gets to the dregs. I see there are instructions on the pack (deciphered in my school girl French) for getting the last squirt out. Also just from a use of materials and packaging and recycling POV the pump mechanism is much more complicated and less recyclable than a plain old measuring cap. I believe there are refill packs though, so if you are continually using the same bottle these concerns are less of a problem. Though - how many refills before the pump becomes gummed up and unuseable (if at all)?
I also like the idea of squirting it straight in the drum - prevents my dispenser drawer from getting all gunked up and smeggy!

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Not that I have noticed so far

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I was a bit worried about the mention of fragrance by other users as I hate artificial smells on laundry, which is one of the reasons why I use Ecover. It definitely has a smell once the laundry was finished and this persisted while it was drying, but in fact it wasn't too strong I found it quite pleasant in fact - was more of a 'clean washing' smell than anything. I was also pleased to find that it hasn't lingered on the clothes and I have not noticed it once clothes are being worn. The cleaning power seems fine, though I've not had anything heavily soiled to try it on. It seems equal to the Ecover stuff I usually use.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Thus far I would recommend it if it came up in conversation, particularly given the green credentials - which mean a lot to me.

Thanks for giving me the chance to test Method and MN, I will probably use in the future!

amrobe · 10/12/2012 12:13

My overall impression is that it is ok. I do like the bottle and the fact it has a squeezy pump so there's absolutely no wasting any of it. I was impressed at it getting the biro stain out of my daughters trousers.

I would change the fragrance, I felt that there wasn't really any fragrance at all and that's a big thing for me with laundry products, they need to smell good.

As above re the fragrance, there was nothing there!

I probably wouldn't recommend it. It hasn't made such an impression on me that I would change my current liquid but I would mention the fact that it got a pretty bad pen stain out of my daughters trousers!

aimum · 10/12/2012 12:16

I've been using method laundry detergent for the past week and I like it. It has been used on muddy football clothes and whites - both came out clean. I like the fact that clothes, including towels, are left soft and fluffy without using fabric softener. My family suffer with sensitive skin but so far there is no sign of itchiness from any of us. The smell was a bit stronger than I thought it would be but I actually quite like it. I don't usually buy scented products because of the scents but this is quite pleasant.

I am not sure if I would swap my current brand because of the price but I would buy it if I saw it on special offer. I would recommend this product to friends and family.

Willemdefoeismine · 10/12/2012 12:23

I have always looked longingly at all the Method products in the supermarket...they just look so much more stylish but sadly having to budget price wins over style normally. So it was lovely to actually get the opportunity to trial a Method product (thank you!).

I am a bit of a laundry product whore - I go with what's on offer and is not too heavy (no car here and often run out of laundry products twixt online orders). I have always liked the look of the very compact and light-weight (in comparison) Method Laundry Liquid purely on the grounds that I could add it to a top-up shop without being laden down like a donkey....

I speak French so I didn't even really notice that the instructions were all in French! I actually found it quite intuitive to use without reading the instructions at all....

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?

I liked the size and weight of it and that such a small bottle could easily do 25 washes (which for me would be nearly at least a month's worth of washing).

We have a very small kitchen and space is a premium so the smaller and more compact the better really!

Also like that I the bottle can be re-used with a large refill pack option (which I definitely would order on-line!) which appeals to the Womble within.

Personally as someone who is a bit lazy about putting lids on properly (and I've ruined several pairs of jeans picking up bleach bottles with non-secured lids) and therefore prone to spillages, I liked the pump-action.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?

Possibly make it a larger bottle that could do 40 (or so) washes. I think it would still be light enough to carry (if on foot) but then would use up nearly half of the large refill at a time (I hate having extra stuff hanging around for longer than necessary) which could only be a good thing.

I haven't done enough loads yet to have reached the 'dregs' of the bottle and therefore be experiencing problems pumping the last bits out.... This is a design fault with a pump-based system and not just specific to this Method product. There must be a simple solution to this? Otherwise it slightly goes against the eco-friendly mantra if one potentially could be wasting laundry liquid...?

Possibly to offer a laundry liquid/conditioner combined. I liked its cleaning power but we live in a very hard water area and my towels came out a bit like stiff boards!

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?

I liked the smell of it as I pumped it into the washing machine. I could not discern a smell on the laundered clothes but that might not necessarily be a bad thing.

I thought it cleaned well - it certainly got mud out of DS's rugby kit and his school uniform (he fell over on a muddy games field in his full uniform!) with one wash where I have been known in the past to have to wash muddy clothes twice to clean them properly.

We aren't generally a dirty clothes family though, so not entirely possible to give it an unchallenged thumbs up. Would like to see how it coped with biological stains such as blood which is always a real test for a laundry liquid.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?

Would certainly recommend to my eco-warrior friends and relations and particularly to those for whom money isn't an object. I will certainly seriously consider it on future shopping trips. If I can get my head around the initial expenditure of £14 or so for the large refill, I wouldn't have to consider the cost for such a goodly while that I'm sure I could justify the couple of pounds extra spend...

PurpleCrazyHorse · 10/12/2012 12:31

Well... just to add... I washed DH's white suit shirt which still had coffee stains on the cuffs and what appeared to be a spot of blood on the back (who knows where that came from!). It had already been on a combined wash & semi-dry cycle with our usual branded liquid. Only when about to iron did we spot the stains.

Popped it in a white 40 wash with 4 squirts of the Method liquid and it looks perfect. I wasn't feeling optimistic but thought it was worth a try as others above had mentioned it was good at getting rid of stains.

No extra stain removal products added, no squirting of Method on the stains, just threw it all in the machine and put Method in the drawer. Brilliant cleaning power, and about to try it on a few of DD's things I was waiting for a sunny day to sun-bleach.

PenguinSalute · 10/12/2012 12:53

Got mine last week and have steadily worked my way through it now!

  1. First impression was good- really novel idea of the bottle design, easy to use but would have helped if the instructions were in English!

  2. I found it a bit tricky to use when running low- it was nowhere near empty but when I used the pump I wasn't getting full 'squirts' out iyswim? Not a major problem, you could get the liquid out by adding a couple of extra pumps, but still a bit of a pain.

  3. Fragrance was lovely- even when left in the machine for a while after because I forgot about it! Didn't go damp smelling at all- good cleaning power too, to tackle DS's clothes after meal times!

  4. I would recommend it, definitely. I had suspected that it wouldn't work as well/ smell as fresh as other brands, but it really did. I've not seen it in the supermarket though, but its price seems to be being mentioned a lot as a bit offputting so that would obviously be a factor.

Wolfcub · 10/12/2012 13:50

Having moaned in my feedback about the lack of refil packs I found one in sainsburys at weekend. 85 washes for £14 which makes it £1 cheaper than the same size pack of Persil. I never buy my persil full price but, if I was forced to (I'd run out and there were no sales for example) then I would choose the Method refil pack over the Persil at 16.5 pence per wash it isn't that bad. The 25 pump works out at 24 pence per wash in comparison.

Whyriskit · 10/12/2012 13:51

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I like the size of it - tiny kitchen so easy to store. Looked good.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Cheaper? It's also becoming harder to get the liquid into the drawer now that it is almost finished.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
Liked the smell, not too strong but smelt clean. I stopped using Ecover as it couldn't get my Dh's work shirts clean but that hasn't been a problem with the Method liquid. However, it hasn't done too well on a hot wash with DS2's cloth nappies - they have come out smelling fairly rank although no visible stains.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I do like it and would recommend it, although I'm not happy about how well it cleaned my nappies. It is compact, cleans most things well and smells nice.

McGriffo · 10/12/2012 15:10

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
Good. Dinky little bottle, colourful design. I liked the ease of use of the pump.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Maybe the cleaning power needs to be slightly improved (if that's possible). It didn't lift all stains, although it was about on par with the non-bio liquids I normally use.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
The fragrance is pleasant and fresh. Not too strong, which is good. As above for the cleaning power i.e. it's probably comparable to non-bio liquids. I don't use bio powders and liquids but I guess the cleaning power of those is better than Method.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I would recommend it for the easy to use pump.

Thanks for letting me try it.

Willemdefoeismine · 10/12/2012 15:25

PS IT would be useful to have some type of transparency in the wrapper around the bottle so that you could easily see how much laundry liquid remains. Yes, you can hold it up to the light but it's not as straightforward and always a chance of getting a random drip of liquid land on one's face in one's eye as one's squinting away ;-(!

70percent · 10/12/2012 15:35

Follyfoot - are they definitely potato starch wotsits? I've been holding off doing anything with them - compost them, bin them or put them in recycling?

Pam100127 · 10/12/2012 15:50

I received mine last Tuesday. I've now done about 8 washes.

  1. I'm very impressed by the size of the bottle and the number of washes it does. I also love the squirty pump, so much less messy than measuring out the quantity.
  1. Nothing I would change. Can't comment on the price but that could be an issue.
  1. The fragrance was light, not too overpowering and the results were very good.
  1. I would definitely mention Method Laundry Liquid in conversation. Especially the pump action. I can see me keeping the bottle and refilling it just to have the convenience of the pump dispenser.

I really enjoyed having the opportunity to try this product. Thank you.

vixo · 10/12/2012 16:20

I use some method products already - we particularly love the almond scented wood floor cleaner - but hadn't tried this ashng product before. My daughter has eczema, which when irritated seems to react to almost everything. I often just use Eco balls for the children's clothes, and another Eco brand for our clothes.

I liked the pump, although there doesn't seem to be any way to 'close' it once it's opened, which I would like. It seems a nifty design.

Our normal laundry products have either no or very little scent, so I hate products which are overly scented now,, as they seem to smell very strong and artificial. I like the smell of this, however, and the was just enough scent left over after washing to make me feel things smelled 'clean', without being offensive.

The washing all seemed clean, but I would use a lot less than recommended, as I always do with any washing products. I think 2 squirts cleaned perfectly well, and will also help the product go a little further. When I used 4 squirts the washing felt a bit 'slimy' when it came out, as thought there was some residue.

I would probably recommend this if it ever came up in conversation, but I'm pleased to say I don't spend too much of my time discussing washing products!

bluecarrot · 10/12/2012 17:34

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I liked the idea - the compact size, the convenience, my daughter can easily do it. The smell is the only downside.
Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
The smell.
Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I hated the smell. It was very chemical-ly. The cleaning power seemed great, though we didnt have anything overly tricky. I put a squirt on a food stain and left a few mins before washing.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?

If the fragrance improved, yes, I would. I like the idea behind the company etc but since Id need to use other products to cover up the smell its not currently worth purchasing.
