NOW CLOSED: Tesco’s Naturally Powered (antibacterial spray or non-bio washing powder) product testers review thread

AnnMumsnet · 01/05/2012 14:54

This thread is for the 1000 Mumsnetters who are trying out the Naturally Powered range of cleaning products by Tesco.

If you don't know about these products, here's what Tesco has to say:

"In the past, green cleaning products have been let down by their performance. Working closely with a team of chemists, scientists and environmental experts, we have created the Naturally Powered range of eco cleaning products - specially formulated to have a reduced impact on the environment than other leading products and with the cleaning performance you'd expect."

Mumsnetters have been testing either the antibacterial spray or the non-bio washing powder. In addition, all testers received a trial-sized sachet of washing up liquid.

If you are a tester, please state which product you were testing and answer the questions below - feel free to also add any other comments you may have.

Everyone who adds their comments to this thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one person will win £200 of Tesco vouchers.

Questions:

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I tested the washing powder
Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I hadn't heard of the brand

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
The powder worked as well as my usual non-bio. Tomato stains still need a spell in the sun to disappear totally, but I am used to that. The smell was a bit overpowering to me on opening the box, but is much more subtle after washing. It still smells a bit artificial to me, not what I expect from a 'natural' product. Nor are the blue flecks I suppose.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
See above.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
The green credentials are not very clear, compared with brands such as Ecover which are 100% naturally derived. I would be interested to have more information on the box about what the reduced environmental impact is, its safety for aquatic life, which 'normal' chemicals are still in it, etc.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
With a bit more info, and if its price is comparable to my normal brand, I'd consider it.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
It seems you can't please everyone on this, but I didn't take to the fragrance much. It is not bad in any way, just a bit artificial to me.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I have no significant complaints against the product so would recommend it.

ZuleikaJambiere · 07/05/2012 22:55

We received the anti bacterial spray.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I'm sure I've used Tesco's own brand environmentally friendly cleaning products before, although I can't remember what the range was called. The range I've used previously was fine, I'm expecting the same of this one.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
I've used the anti bac spray to wipe down the kitchen work surfaces, and also the babies changing mat. I was happy with the performance, and it worked nicely. The smell isn't unpleasant, and more importantly doesn't 'catch' the back of my throat or make me sneeze, like many products do.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
On a daily basis I normally wipe around with very hot, soapy water, and then use a 'tough' cleaner once a week. I've been happy to use this every day, as it doesn't feel too strong or 'chemical-ly'. It leaves everything looking as clean as my usual products

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
The green credentials are important to me, as DD and I both have sensitive skin and (usually) I find green products are more sympathetic to our skin, as well as being more sympathetic to the environment (which in my mind are linked). I try to buy environmentally friendly wherever possible, so this does affect my decision to buy. I'm not loyal to a particular brand

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
If it is own the shelves in our local Tesco (a v small store with little, if any, Eco products stocked), then I will consider buying it

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

Can't think of any now

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes

Questions:

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
Nice packaging.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
The products smelt lovely and the anti bacterial spray has actually managed to get rid of the smell of cat wee, where the cat had a little accident.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
I didn't find the spray to be a very effective cleaning product, unable to scientifically test its claims that it kills 99.9% of bacteria!
Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
Not at all. I'm more interested in the cleaning power of a product.
Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
Probably not, prefer antibacterial wipes.
Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Make them more effective at cleaning.
Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would mention the product, if only to report I'd recieved a freebie, otherwise probably not.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I hadn't heard of them

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
I liked the anti bac spray - it worked well. Smell was fine too

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
It worked just as well

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
Very important, I usually use Ecover etc

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
Probably not as the Tesco near me is horrible

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Better packaging

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, it was a good product

Tranquilidade · 07/05/2012 23:07

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I hadn't heard of them before

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
The powder worked well although, as my children are older, we don't have stains like we used to. I liked the smell in the box, but it had vanished after washing and, if anything, the clothes just smelt a bit "damp".

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
It was fine but there was nothing particularly challenging there.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
I'm afraid I'm not that bothered.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
If its price is comparable to my normal brand, I might but am a bit concerned that it might not keep the machine as fresh as other powders.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
A fresh smell that lasted on the clothes.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would probably recommend it if asked about an Eco product as it is better than any other I've tried but I am not sure any Eco product compares with nasty chemicals for efficiency.

NellyNoKnicks · 07/05/2012 23:12
  1. I hadn't heard of them
  2. The washing powder I used was absolutely fine, although there was quite a strong smell in the box (which I was surprised at), the washing smelt of nothing, which was fine.
  3. It worked about the same as my usual brand.
  4. I like to do my bit for my environment, so it is important to me, however as I'm on a tight budget, I have to consider my costs first
  5. If it is affordable/costs the same as my regular brand I probably would.
  6. None, I was happy with it.
  7. Yes I was pleasantly surprised by it.
bessie26 · 07/05/2012 23:18

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I wasn't aware of them

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
I thought the smell was very strong. After a wash I could still smell the washing powder rather than my regular fabric conditioner.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
It worked well. Got DH's muddy golf trousers clean & got some (fairly fresh) blood out of the DCs clothes.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would rather this product hadn't been tested on animals.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
Maybe. it depends how the price compares to my usual product (ecover)

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
I would make the powder dissolve better. It gunked up the drawer & I hate to have to clean it.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Maybe. It did work ok, but I would have to mention that it didn't disolve well & that I had to clean out the drawer. And that it appears to have been tested on animals.

MyDogShitsShoes · 07/05/2012 23:24

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

Like the idea of them very much but never really found one which performed as well as the chemical alternative.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

Product worked fine on every day items but not well at all on stains, even at 40o so no use at all at the advertised 15o. Smell was nice straight out of washer but once dry faded to nothing. Felt absolutely fine despite not using softener due to small baby.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

Worked the same on normal soiling but not as good on stains.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

Green credentials would definitely be something I would prefer but not at the expess of end result.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

I wouldn't buy the washing powder again, purely because it didn't perform at all well on food marks.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

Improve stain removal.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably not due to reasons stated above but would happily discuss it as an option for every day/very light soiling.

sayjay · 07/05/2012 23:49

Not read any other reviews yet.
Thank you for the samples :) I tried washing up liquid and washing powder.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

Hadn't seen them before delivery. I thought the washing powder had a very strong synthetic perfume scent. I didn't like it.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

Washing up liquid worked initially but the soap bubbles didn't last and had to top up mid washing up. It didn't irritate my hands which most wul's do, even Eco ones.

Washing powder seems to have worked just fine but clogged my powder draw in machine even though I used a third of the recommended amount. It didn't leave white powder on my black trousers and although I was wary of the perfumey smell initially it hasn't lingered on the clothes.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

WUL - less well than co-op Eco wul and surcare wul.
Washing powder - the same as Aldi non bio powder, better than ecover, not as good as surcare tabs.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'm not sure that the washing powder is all that green actually, reading the ingredients. This would affect my decision to buy negatively.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
No, performance of wul and non-green-ness of washing powder

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Remove optical brighteners from washing powder
Stop powder clogging in machine draw
Make the bubbles last longer in wul.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
No, sorry, I wasn't all that impressed overall.

natcat7000 · 07/05/2012 23:51

I have been testing the Antibacterial spray.

Q1. I hadn't heard or seen the brand previously.

Q2. Yes, definitely thought the product worked well. It smelled really good actually and I enjoyed using it for the smell alone!

Q3. Felt confident things were properly clean and was comparible to my standard Dettol spray cleaner.

Q4. I am getting into more and more 'green' cleaning lately (using baking soda for scrubbing the bath tub, vinegar for some cleaning). I havent completely gone green and still use Dettol etc especially to deep clean the baby's areas. The fact that it was called naturally powered would probably have grabbed my attention. But I do think that if people are properly green, the first thing they will do is check the ingredients label and see that the ingredients are quite similar to standard sprays.

Q5. I will buy this again for my antibacterial needs and ignore the fact that it
Isn't completely green just because the smell is so lovely.

Q6. I think any improvements would involve tweaking the ingredientsa bit to make it more properly naturally powered.

Q7. Saying all this, I would still recommend the product to a friendbecause it does feel like it works and the smell makes it a pleasure to use.

weebleswillwobble · 08/05/2012 05:45

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

No opinion, really. I was vaguely aware of the brand.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

I was quietly impressed actually. I have tried an 'eco' washing powder in the past and wasn't impressed with the results, but Naturally Powered cleaned a dirty load well.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

Just as well.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

I like to 'go green' where possible.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

I think I would, provided it was competitively priced.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

The recommended dose is too much (they always are!) - leaves build up in the washing machine drawer and powdery marks on the clothes. Once I cut the amount I was using I got better results. Adjusting the recommended dose on the box would be an improvement I would make.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I think I would.

elfqueen · 08/05/2012 06:55

I am testing the antibac spray.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

I had never heard of them, nor seen them on the shelves. I have since seen them, but have to admit at my local store they were on the top shelf and there was only a couple of them.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

I loved the fresh smell of the spray, it was a natural lemon scent unlike some more 'artificial' scents. The spray worked well, I even left my cooker hob for a couple of hours to dry after cooking a sunday roast, so that it had a 'tougher' job to do and it cleaned the hob with ease!

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

I admit i tend to buy whichever anti bac spray is on offer at the time, so i do not have a regular, usual variations include, dettol, mr muscle, oxi action...... But i can def say it was nicer than the last one i brought!!

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

Again, being honest I do not usually look for the green products, but my stepmum however always uses Ecover, she also tested this spray and loved it. She said she would use it and I would happily use it again, but probably not because of the green credentials.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

I think if there was no spray on offer, or a spray that I didnt like then i would happily buy the naturally powered range, my only concern is the cost of the product, especially as im on maternity leave, so money is definatly tight at the moment!

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

I cannot think of any improvements, the spray is nice, the bottle has a nice grip and even though the labelling is not eye catching, it is natural and so fits with the 'naturally powerered' name!

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would and have recommended this spray to others, my step mum and a couple of friends who have visited and i have shown them. They all seemed equally impressed with the product.

CuriosityCola · 08/05/2012 08:14

Using the washing powder

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them? I was very put off by the strong scent of the powder. This lead me to question how natural the product was. Was very disappointed when I checked the ingredients.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
The product cleaned the clothes well. The perfume didn't stay on the clothes. Much prefer my usual Eco brand.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
Didn't work aswell as my usual brand. Needed to reduce the amount of powder due to clogging the drawer. As states above, much prefer usual Eco brand, that really is as natural as possible.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
Very important. I can't stand falsely marketed products. I feel that Tesco have made it marginally better than some other products out there and stuck a Natural stamp on the product.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

No! Reasons above

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Removal of perfume
Removal of optical brighteners etc
Suspicious that the ingredients list said this contains amongst other things...for more info see website. Why were all details not on the box?

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
No. Even for friends that aren't very Eco friendly it wasn't great performance wise.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to test this product.

MothershipG · 08/05/2012 08:34

Spray surface cleaner

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I do prefer to use them if I can afford them, so I was more than happy to try this range.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
Perfectly happy with the performance, definitely as good as the regular one. My 9 year old daughter walked into the room after I'd used it and said it smells nice & clean in here, so the smell was definitely a hit here!

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
Just as good as Tesco regular spray cleaner, but nicer smell.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
I always prefer to use eco friendly products but when money is short I do have to compromise, but I would definitely buy this again if the price difference was small.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
Yes, if the price is broadly similar to the regular product.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Perfectly happy with the spray itself, but could the packaging be made more eco? E.g. availability of refills for the spray?

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Be happy to recommend the spray.

tantrumsandballoons · 08/05/2012 08:36

I had the washing powder.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I had not heard of the brand.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
The washing powder had a very nice smell, it worked as well as my normal washing powder but at the end of the cycle there was still powder in the drawer that didn't rinse away properly.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
It worked just as well.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
I do buy "green" products such as Ecover sometimes, but it is very expensive.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
To be honest, I will not buy it all the time. The only size in my local tesco is very small, even taking into consideration you do not need to use as much. We are a large family, I do 4-5 washes per day and it is not cost effective.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Better dissolving powder.
Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend as it works well and smells lovely but I would mention the cost.

rosie17 · 08/05/2012 08:54

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

Had never tried it or noticed it at the shops

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

worked well.Nice smell

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

Seemed to worked just as well less clinical smell then others

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would prefer to use a 'green product' so long as it works

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
If they are well priced I would try other things from this range since my experience so far has been good

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Seems fine as it is

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
better for the environment and it works

cjosey · 08/05/2012 09:28

Test - Washing powder

Q1. Looking forward to using because currently buy Ecover range and no real competition out their for them

Q2. Washing powder worked well and has a nice smell. Still use Persil non bio (not Ecover - due to price and deals). Both powders (tesco and persil) still have problems getting stains out of baby bibs though.

Q3. Both powders are equal in cleaning power i believe

Q4. Very important - and due to my children's allergies ;i try to go as natural as possible. This will definitely affect my choice of product to buy.

Q5. I would definitely consider if the price is right - not necessarily cheaper but good value.

Q6. Just the box and dispenser - think it was only like this due to this being a tester

Q7. Yes, especially if child has allergies

YouthworkersWife · 08/05/2012 09:33

I was testing the washing powder.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
They looked good, but like most 'green' products I half expected them to be very ineffective. A kind of 'style-over-substance' product.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
The washing powder seemed to work as well as my normal brand. I have a baby with very sensitive skin and the powder didn't produce a rash (and I have tried many brands to find one that doesn't!). I must say, however, that I found that it smelt quite strongly in the box (but not on the clothes), and the little blue specks didn't make it look very 'ecological'. I thought they made it look quite chemical.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
In terms of removing dirt, the washing powder seemed to work just as well as my current brand. It didn't leave a rash on sensitive skin, and it left the clothes smelling clean but not perfumed.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
I like the idea of buying ecological and fair-trade products etc. But I am often put off by the high prices. I know that it costs more to produce these products and so their price MUST be higher - it's just that there is 'higher' and 'HIGHER'. If you could get it so that it is only a few pence per kg more expensive than a good branded product then I would be very tempted to buy it.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
Having looked up the prices on the tesco website, my normal brand does the same job for a cheaper price per kg (and I used to think that my normal brand was expensive!). I like the product, I like the green credentials, I just can't afford the prices.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
The 'fill to here' line on the dispenser cup would be easier to use if it was printed on the inside rather than the outside of the cup. Also, I find the blue specks in the powder look really chemical which isn't the impression you're trying to give. Perhaps green specks would look more 'ecological'?

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not? I would recommend they try it if their child has sensitive skin, or if they were specifically looking for an eco product. But I wouldn't rush out to sing it's praises to everyone because of the price.

jenduck · 08/05/2012 09:59

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

I had not heard of these particular products before the test, but did know of similar brands such as Ecover, of which I was somewhat sceptical that they worked as well as other 'non-green' brands.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

I found that the spray I tested worked very well, better than my current spray & I had to use less of it. The smell was pleasant, but perhaps a little on the strong side. I like how the product looks, I found the clear spray & bottle attractive.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

It works better than my usual products as I have to use less spray for the same results.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

It is not essential to me that a product is 'green', but it is a bonus. It would not affect my decision to buy it, price is usually the biggest factor for me.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

I will continue to use the range if special offers come up, or if I feel it is reasonably priced.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

I would like the spray to have a slightly lighter fragrance.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend the spray to a friend.

Washing powder.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?
I hadn't heard of them, but I rarely shop in Tescos as there isn't a big one nearby.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?
Nice smell, cleaned well but I didn't have any very stained clothes (which I'd usually use bio for). Packaging looked good. "Feel" was fine, I don't have high standards for that kind of thing!

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?
It worked as well.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?
No change in opinion. I'm sceptical of how "green" this actually is, it seems like a marketing ploy to be honest. I would still use it if it worked well though. I do like environmentally friendly things though e.g. using vinegar for cleaning.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?
Maybe if in Tescos but I tend to just buy washing powder when on offer.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?
Can't think of any. Competing on price is important to me, however. I haven't looked at how these compare to other products but if I were you I would bear that in mind.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Probably not! I think my friends would look like this Hmm if I did. Not because the product is bad just because it's nothing special either.

I am testing the non-bio washing powder. So far, I have used it for about five loads.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

I didn't have an opinion because our local Tesco express does not carry these products so I had never seen them before.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

I think the washing powder works quite well. I am pleased! It seems to clean better than the other non-bio I have at home - even on my three month old baby's clothes. I thought the smell was too strong in the box, but after washing it is fine.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

It works better!

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

This is quite important to me, but unfortunately I don't always buy green because of the price.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

If it is good value I will definitely buy it.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

None

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

If it came up, but I can't imagine it would!

I am testing the NP antibacterial spray.

Q1. What was your opinion of the Naturally Powered products before using them?

I didn't have one to be honest. Cleaning products are a rather saturated market and if I'm buying supermarket own brands, I'm afraid I'm buying it for price.

Q2. After using the products, what was your over all opinion? Did the products work? Were you happy with the performance? Did you like the smell and feel of the products?

I was quite happy with it. I am actually comparing it to Sainsburys own brand and also Cif (bit of an antibac freak...) Yes, it did work and left less smears on my stainless steel hob. The bottle was a bit leaky though. The smell was the one thing I didn't like, it's a strong chemical one which even my other half noticed when he returned home.

The washing up liquid tester is definitely not as good as my usual. I used it to clean a large pan and needed more.

Q3. How did the products compare to your usual cleaning products? Did it work just as well, better or worse than the products you usually use?

Further to above, it was better than the Sainsburys one but not as good as Cif. But then, I expect branded goods to be better as they tend to be more expensive.

Q4. How important are the green credentials of the Naturally Powered range to you? Would this affect your decision to buy? If so, why? If not, why not?

Green credentials are becoming more important to me, so it is a factor when I'm shopping. However, it is not a priority to me and it is more important that the product works and is good value for money.

Q5. Will you continue to buy the Tesco Naturally Powered range? If so, why? If not why not?

I would buy it again, because it worked, but the smell would have to be changed for me to become a regular user.

Q6. What, if any, improvements would you make to the Naturally Powered products you were testing?

See the answer to Q5! Also the bottle might need to be redesigned as I didn't plan on cleaning my hands with it.

Q7. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the products to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

On the whole we don't talk about cleaning products... but if someone was asking for a recommendation I would say that it worked.

I've been using the washing powder.

Q1. I would prefer to use them but always sneakingly suspicious that they won't be as good as something filled with bad chemicals rather than the ones nature provides.

Q2. I am testing it out on small boys camping kit and everything is coming up nice and clean. There is a nice fragrance to the powder as it goes in but nothing is coming out with much scent, which is good I suppose but I would prefer to get more of a 'newly washed' smell.

Q3. Can't see any difference apart from the fact that there is no sticky left over bit of the wrapper like with the pods I use when they are on offer because I don't use a high temp/lot of water.

Q4. After price the credentials would be the second most important thing, I would hate to feel duped by marketing over substance.

Q5. I think I will if it is available in our very small Tesco.

Q6. A little bit more of a fragrance to the cleaned clothes as it smells lovely going in.

Q7. I think I would, mainly because it has my DS1 (12) doing the laundry because he loves the little waxed cup to measure the powder out!

Washing powder

  1. I hadn't heard of the range before.

  2. The powder had a very strong smell which surprised me for an eco product but thankfully didn't linger on the clothes once they were dry. I found it cleaned just as well as other eco detergents I've used (method, ecover). It was easy to use with the measuring cup. Packaging looked fine.

  3. It worked as well.

  4. Choosing eco friendly products is very important to me but I don't understand how 'green' this product actually is. Other brands give much more info on the packaging which I prefer as I don't want to have to research ingredients before maing a purchase. I also fear it is tested on animals as the box doesn't say otherwise, which doesn't sit quite right with the 'natural' marketing in my view. I wouldn't use the product again without clearer information.

  5. Not until there is more info on the packaging so I can understand how 'eco' it really is.

  6. As above, more info about ingredients.

  7. Probably not for the reasons mentioned above.
