NOW CLOSED: "You Choose" any Ford car to test drive over Christmas for three weeks - video reviewers needed

AnnMumsnet · 28/11/2011 11:37

We've been asked by Ford to find five MNers and their families willing to have a three week extended Christmassy test drive in the Ford car of their choice, to make a video review and to add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. This follows on from the recent C-MAX, Grand C-MAX, Focus and KUGA test drives

As this is for the car of your choice....you can take your pick from the range - have a read below and pick the car which best suits your family and lifestyle

Maybe you will choose the....
Fiesta - "Reliable, safe, good fuel economy - perfect for a smaller family"
Galaxy - "Large, safe with removable seats - great for a large family"
or Mondeo Estate - "Spacious, with a large boot - ideal for families with pets"

Or how about:

KA
Fusion
Focus
Focus Estate
C-MAX
Grand C-MAX
Kuga
Mondeo
S-MAX

You can read all about the cars by visiting the Ford website

If you'd like to test drive a Ford car, please read on, especially the conditions:

You can use the car for anything (legal) - but you will need to pay for any fuel you use, as well as any parking permits or parking/traffic fines.

Insurance will be arranged as long as you:-

~ are aged 25 or over
~ have had a full driving licence for three years or more and
~ have no convictions for dangerous driving.

What will test drivers need to do?
If selected, you would need to be able to offer feedback about the car on Talk at least twice a week for the duration of the three week test plus a final round up of your thoughts.

We will also be asking you to use the video camera provided to film yourself reviewing the car with your family plus we'll need a photo of you with the car and some details about you and your family. All footage, photos and information may be shown on Mumsnet and potentially used by Ford elsewhere.

Timetable
The test drive will take place starting w/c 19th Dec - and will last for three weeks (until w/c 2nd Jan) - meaning you can enjoy the car over the Christmas and New Year period.

Please only apply if you are around and able to test the car as well as add your feedback. Please note the car can not be taken out of the UK

If selected your name and contact details would be passed to the team at Ford who would make arrangements to deliver the car on a convenient day and time to suit you.

If you're interested in taking part please sign up by clicking here.

If you're selected for the test drive and add feedback as required on Mumsnet, you will receive £100 of John Lewis vouchers. If you haven't heard from us by December 9th, we're sorry but you haven't been selected this time.

Thanks and good luck

worley · 19/12/2011 21:19

did you have to provide ID at all? I asked the lady if they wanted to see my driving licence but she said no...

chocoroo · 19/12/2011 21:55

No ID requested here but I dd sign for the car and got an email later on telling me I'd signed.

Just overcome hurdle number 1...installing DD's car seat in the dark.

PS. Ann...who should I be thanking for the lovely toy that was in the car for DD?

AnnMumsnet · 19/12/2011 22:57

Hulababy · 20/12/2011 09:26

Mine is now due today, rearranged due to error and the woman I have been sorting it with has emailed to say between 10:30-12, which is really important as I am out asap today!

But had an email last nigth from Ford which says 12-2 - which is too late!

Tracker is now working but says the last time was 8:27 - I think, and it is still miles away.

Argh!

Hulababy · 20/12/2011 09:40

Ooh, it;s updated the tracker and it is much closer now, on edge of Sheffield now. He is coming a bit of a funny way though. By looks of it though it will definitely be here within the hour!

Hulababy · 20/12/2011 10:31

It's here :)

Looks huge compared to my little Fiat 500!
DD is very impressed by the push button start.
The gifts were lovely, thank you. I shall enjoy the biscuits lots :) And DD thinks her little cousin will enjoy the toy lots.

Off out now but not sure I dare use the big car just yet!

Oh - and the man was unsure on the fuel front - how much does it need to have in when they come to return it?

Thank you to Ford and MN.

Christmasford · 20/12/2011 15:44

The car is here it is awesome!!its so big!....we lost our camera in it and took half an hour to find it!

mumdad2kidsandadog · 20/12/2011 17:38

Sniff. I miss the Kuga. We were on the Severn Bridge waiting to pay earlier and the girls spotted one just like the one we tested. Was it one of you lot or someone lucky enough to actually own one?

mumdad2kidsandadog · 20/12/2011 17:40

Hula- what a coincidence- I had a Kuga and usually drive a Fiat 500. You will feel a big difference between the cars. I never thought I'd love driving anything other than my beloved Fiat but soon changed my mind.

worley · 20/12/2011 17:46

I drive all the way round the Norfolk coast today lol. we went to watch the seal pups that have been born. we were going to go a few weeks ago but then out it off when I found out about car. had a fab day driving round. borrowed a satnav (mine was stolen a while ago :( ) and off we went. ds2 thinks its "awesome" so far and is very impressed with the wing mirrors folding in when we locked it!
going to sit and read the manual after dinner

worley · 20/12/2011 17:48

is there some where else we have to update?

worley · 20/12/2011 17:51

ooo I tell you what I was impressed with, the little video playin on the rear view mirror when I reversed!!! I didn't know they had that! I was quite excited about that :)

I usually drive a Volvo v40 so the fiesta is a big change in size but it didn't feel any smaller on the inside. it was like sitting in an airplane cockpit (I imagine ! I've never actually sat in a cockpit )

Hulababy · 20/12/2011 18:04

mumdad2kidsandadog - yes, it is very different and what a coincidence!

I have driven the Kuga today to a friend's house and back - so about 10 miles or so. It was somewhat scary initially as it was so high up and felt incredibly wide. But it was easy to drive I have to say, esp being automatic. Luckily DH's car is automatic so I did kind of know what to do. Keep trying to put the key in to start though, lol! Was suprised at how well it drove today although I admit to sticking mainly to the bigger and wider roads rather than my normal short cuts down the back lanes. And it managed the very steep road really really well, which my little Fiat struggles with.

DD is 9y and she likes it so far. She was very unsure beforehand esp as she feels big cars are far too bad for the environment Hmm but she is so far won over by it :)

Not had time to do the video bit or anything today but will get started tomorrow. DD is very keen to start on that aspect of the reviewing!

We wanted to test drive it as DH will be replacing his car next year and he is wanting something bigger. He currently drives a Golf R which is lovely and fast but not really very big.

Christmasford · 20/12/2011 18:33

My kids can't wait to try out the onboard DVD players and wireless headphones!! I think park assist will scare me. But the galaxy is massive...heaps of legroom in the back...really good boot space that we will put to the test on Friday when we drive to Costco

AnnMumsnet · 20/12/2011 18:51

hulababy - please leave enough fuel in it when you finish so the driver can get somewhere!

glad the cars are being enjoyed so far...!

Am trying to get the feedback thread up and running asap - will email you all a link when it's up

[grin @fuel.....I think ours has a massive tank....it will cost an arm and leg to fill it up, but dp is already working out if we can afford one!

RunningKatie · 20/12/2011 19:14

I was told to leave the tank a quarter full when they come to collect it.

The video for reversing and the parking sensors are fab for when you're reversing into a stream of traffic and can't see a thing as someone's parked a tank right next to you! Grin

I'm not liking the control for the radio being on the steering wheel, it just feels a bit uncomfortable, my Focus has the paddle controls and I guess I've just got used to them.

Hulababy · 21/12/2011 14:44

DH has taken the car today. He has been pleasantly surprised too. It is much more fuel efficient than his car is. He found it strange being sat high up, said it was like he was perched in top rather than in a car. Found it very easy to drive, comfortable too.

worley · 21/12/2011 21:18

had a good drive round again today, run ds1 (13) and his friend about fitted them both and ds2 (5) in back. found my first fault though :( no rear lights in back. so when trying to rummage in the back to do ds2's seatbelt up in the dark (awkward anyway with booster seat) when I'm still not used to where the seatbelt buckle is was a bit of a pain. with being a five door I expected there to be rear interior lights.
