We've been asked to find 50 Mumsnetters who would like to try Bio-Oil on their skin and then to add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. The product could also be used on children (aged over 2 years)

"Built into a daily skin care routine, Bio-Oil can be applied all over the body, including the face. Specialist skincare for scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, dehydrated skin and dry skin For best results Bio-Oil should be applied twice daily for a minimum of 3 months"

This product test is designed to run alongside the company's new campaign called 'Skin Stories'. This "celebrates how every scar and stretch mark tells a story, whether it's the birth of a child or following a c- section - centred around Facebook, the campaign aims to encourage women to celebrate their skin's individuality by uploading their own Skin Stories as inspiration to other women, to empower them to think and feel more positively about their own skin. For every story shared, Bio-Oil will donate £1 to the British Skin Foundation to help fund research into skin health". If you have already used Bio-Oil and would like to share your story please do so by following the link above.

If you'd like to try Bio-Oil and your are selected you'll be sent a 60ml bottle of Bio-Oil, worth £8.99. In return, we'd like you to add your feedback on Mumsnet twice - once after a week or so with your first impressions and once after 4 to 6 weeks worth of use. Feedback will concentrate on appearance of your stretch marks or scar. Please note this is in no way a clinical trial and we are simply after 'real' feedback on the oil and any changes in the condition of skin noted by those using it.

In addition, Bio-Oil are also looking for 3 Mumsnetters to make a short film about their skin - examining their skin problems, showing changes and asking other people if they have noticed a difference. If you are happy to make a film please tick the box on the form. Please note the videos will be hosted on YouTube, shown possibly on Mumsnet, on the Bio-Oil Facebook page and possibly on the Bio-Oil website. We will compile the three films into one montage and names will not be used. You will be given instructions on how to make the film and what to record. If you are selected to make the video then you will receive a £30 Boots voucher by way of thanks.

So if you feel like Bio-Oil could benefit you and you'd like to try it please sign up here.

Any questions please ask.
Thanks

*TheVampireEmpusa" Same here. Stretchmarks? Whatever, they're natural, they don't bother me. Just my skin doing it's thing and nothing to be ashamed of/embarrassed about IMO.

Self-harm scars on my arms are a different story though. Wish they'd piss off.

HauntyMython · 24/10/2011 15:22

Yep it's not nice seeing them every day is it. I've always wanted to try bio oil but it's expensive and I can't afford to take the risk of it not working.

ScaredTEECat · 24/10/2011 15:34

Ooops. I messed up. I completely forgot my son has a scar under his arm I could test on! Blush That I forgot he had surgery when he was 1. He's 2.4 now!

an it be added to mine? Usual name Tee2072.

edwardcullensotherwerewolf · 24/10/2011 15:37

I'd like to try with DS. His has a portacath under his arm which we access every other day, so he has an abundance of scars from the needles in an area about 1.5-2 inches square. We use cream to soften the skin but I'd be interested to see if Bio Oil would reduce the appearance of these. He also has 2x inch long scars from the operation to put the port in (forgot to mention this on the survey, but my main concern is the "holes" all over and around the port.
I didn't fancy the video, sorry MN. One video featuring me on Youtube is quite enough for now thanks Grin

HeadlessForHocusPocus · 24/10/2011 16:07

I have 2 scars I'd like to see fade a lot more, a c-section scar I'm not bothered about but would test it on it, also my ds2 (3) has a 2 yr old vertical scar through his eyebrow :( from when my other dcs left the stair gate open and he took a tumble and banged his head on the downstairs door. I would like that to fade more too, would be interesting to see if it worked!

I must admit though I always thought it was to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy!

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 24/10/2011 16:15

Done, I would like to improve the appearance of my stretch marks but I'm more bothered about my scars. I'm another one who can't afford to buy it for it not to work. Fingers crossed I get selected.

architien · 24/10/2011 16:22

Would love to try it!
After children I have what my two year old affectionately calls my Tiger Tummy!

AnnMumsnet · 24/10/2011 16:22

Forgot to put in the OP (now amended) but each of those selected to make a video would get a £30 Boots voucher by way of thanks.

Can send overseas! Grin

Done, sadly too gormless to make a video let alone upload it anywhere :)

Bearskinwoolies · 24/10/2011 17:27

Done

bluebump · 24/10/2011 17:29

I've signed up, it would be great to be chosen. I didn't fancy doing a video either i'm afraid but if chosen am happy to feedback here on MN/Facebook etc.

TheVampireEmpusa · 24/10/2011 18:07

HauntyMython and NinthWave It's horrible isn't it, having those lasting reminders there day after day. Really hope at least one of us gets chosen, would be good to know if it works, give the rest of us some hope.

Rudawakening · 24/10/2011 18:11

I don't know if my form worked, it went straight back to the home page when I clicked submit.

Do you have it?

bilblio · 24/10/2011 19:42

I'd definitely like to try it. I was thinking of trying it anyway. DS is 10 days old and my belly resembles an ordnance survey map. :)

FlyingPurpleRumpleEater · 24/10/2011 19:49

Thanks Anna, I have a whole load of stretch marks and scars to video!

FlyingPurpleRumpleEater · 24/10/2011 20:07

I filled in the form and clicked 'submit' but don't know if it sent as my internet went funny... hope so anyway. I wanna wobble my jelly belly on film for all to see!

BlathersFright · 24/10/2011 20:40

I didn't mention it on my form but I also have some self harm scars that I'd love to see the back of. The DCs aren't old enough to ask what they are yet but it won't be long and I have no idea what I'll say Sad

HauntyMython · 24/10/2011 20:52

Same here blathers :( - well, my DSDs are teenagers and as they haven't brought it up I have no clue what they think.

FWIW I would love to try it on my DS as well, he is covered in chicken pox scars, but the poor kid already gets smothered in various ointments several times a day (eczema) so I don't want to add to it.

EttiKetti · 24/10/2011 20:58

Oh yes please, 2 cs , stretch marks and two major abdo surgeries, not to mention accident scars! I'd love to know if it works!!

pithedmyselfwithfear · 24/10/2011 21:22

Have done for DD2 who has eczema and suffers badly from insect bites(please hurry frosty winter weather!) , I do worry she will scar as she scratches all the time.

openerofjars · 24/10/2011 22:52

Done: I have scars from a childhood RTA and my legs, hips and boobs all look like bloody tiger bread after my last pregnancy. Plus, the rest ain't looking so rosy these days either and now I'm pg with DC2 I don't know where the stretch marks will go this time. My ears? Maybe my knees? DS has dry skin and a really dry scalp: I would like to try Bio Oil on his head and see if it makes a difference.

YourMother · 24/10/2011 23:08

Me, me! I came through my first pregnancy relatively unscathed but got pregnant again within the year and my stomach skin protested quite strongly in the form of stretch marks. I know I sound shallow and my boys were absolutely worth it but it has really upset me.

I look like I have been ravaged by a wild animal (I may be slightly exaggerating) but I do have pretty severe, unsightly stretch marks running from below my knicker line up to my belly button.

I'm only 25 and have lost all of my baby weight but due to the marks, will not be confident enough to wear a bikini next year for the first time in my life. While I'm hoping they fade, I would appreciate all the help I can get and my partner has even suggested we go so far as to look at surgery if I am still unhappy with them in say a years' time because this is something I know will have a sorry impact on my confidence.

YourMother · 24/10/2011 23:17

I do sound really shallow, reading back! I'm not dealing with anything serious like some of you, it's just this is the first time I've ever felt really conscious of my body and being judged on it and I'm not enjoying the feeling!

SemperUbiSubUbi · 24/10/2011 23:47

Just wanted to point out you can actually get bio oil on prescription from your gp I'd you get free prescriptions brilliant, if not its still a lot cheaper than buying it from a shop.

sybilfaulty · 25/10/2011 07:45

Done - and if you can persuade your GP to prescribe for your child, it will automatically be free, even if you do borrow a little bit for yourself.....
