We've been asked by The Lawn Tennis Association, the governing body for tennis, to help promote its allplay campaign that is helping more people play tennis. We are looking to find 5 Mumsnetters and their families to take on the Mumsnet allplay challenge.

This involves you having tennis lessons and your family playing tennis together, at local courts, once a week over a four week period and adding feedback on Mumsnet.

Did you know that there are over 4,600 places to play tennis across the country? To find one close to you visit www.allplaytennis.com

If you are selected to take part you will receive:

A racket
Trainers
An allplay Tshirt
5 Tennis lessons - for you only - to be organised direct with the venue at your convenience
4 x 2 hour family court time - this can be flexible
£100 voucher for a store of your choice when you have added all the feedback
and 3 additional rackets for your family

If selected you will need to add feedback twice a week (once after lesson and once after family playing sessions) for the four week period.

The challenge will start w/c 3 October so please only apply if you are going to be around then (and for the next 4 weeks)

Who are we looking for....
We're looking for mums with at least one child (old enough to play). You need to be in the UK and have a tennis court near you that you?d be happy to play on. You don't need any tennis playing experience, though you must be interested in learning to play and getting fit.

If you want to be 'IN' (gettit?!) please sign up here

If you are selected we will email you - we'd then need to collect information from you on: your shoe size, clothing size, height and details of who would want three additional rackets (age and level of tennis). Your details will be sent to the LTA who would send you the equipment and will work with you to confirm details of your coach/ location of lessons

Best of luck
MNHQ

Ooh, done this - we are about to rejoin David Lloyd after a period of dire poverty, when we had to leave, but we can't afford the racquets membership (actually can't really afford the membership but decided against holidays so we could Grin ) and would love to get to play some tennis again!!! Have put DL as our choice!

Collision · 11/09/2011 17:37

Happy to volunteer as resident Mumsnet tennis expert. Four is the absolute minimum age really. Five or six is a better age to start imho. For really little ones, the coaching will focus on ball skills - catching, throwing and also fun games to provide a positive experience of being on court plus some info on e.g. which lines are which. Five and six year olds can begin to have a better chance of actually hitting the ball. By seven and eight some children can compete in mini tennis red events if it floats their boat.

You will need to make sure the grip sizes on the rackets provided are correct.

It's the best sport ever though and I know people who are still playing in their 70s and beyond so it's never too late to take it up as you might still have decades of playing ahead.

vb21 · 12/09/2011 11:10

My 3 year old is very tall (and strong) he has already been playing with a soft ball and racket having been inspired by Wimbledon! Have applied but I guess we're possibly a bit young :)

youmustbeyolking · 12/09/2011 11:26

Ann, I have filled in but can I request we play at Darrick Wood? I originally put somewhere else! Sorry.

Thanks.

Voidka · 12/09/2011 11:53

Done - I requested more than one place - is that okay?

DS would love this - he likes playing tennis in the street and broke our kitchen window last year with a stray tennis ball - flinging himself about!

pickledsiblings · 12/09/2011 14:38

Done!

Fingers crossed.
