This thread is for the MNers who have tested Dettol's No-Touch Hand Wash System. All testers who add their feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £250 Love2Shop voucher Grin. Dettol are also interested in what your child(ren) think of the system so please ask them for their feedback and add it to your post - please include their age with their thoughts.

Below are some questions to get you started. We know that views on germs, hand cleanliness and washing will vary from person to person so if there are any questions you don't have an opinion about, you don't have to answer them. Please feel free to add your own comments as well.

  1. Overall, how did you find the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash system to use? What did you like best about it / did you enjoy using it)? What didn't you like, and why?
  1. What did your child(ren) think of the hand wash system? What did they like/dislike?
  1. Did having the system make your child(ren) wash their hands more regularly and encourage more healthy habits, giving you peace of mind? If so, why? If not, why not?
  1. Similarly, do you think you washed your hands any more often, more thoroughly or more willingly as a result of having the system? If so, when did you find yourself doing this when you might not have done before - eg cooking, cleaning, gardening?
  1. Where did you put your two hand wash systems? Did they fit well where you put them or not? Were they easy or difficult to set up and use? Did you prefer the white or stainless steel finish?
  1. If you were previously concerned about (or at least aware of) germs in your home, do you think that having the system has reassured you or not? Why?
  1. What did you think of the antibacterial hand soap? Did you like the fragrance of it or not? How does it compare with other hand washes? Which fragrance did you like best?
  1. Overall, do you think that having the hand wash system has made life (at least a bit) easier or not? And why?
  1. If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System to your friends with children? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw,
MNHQ

1.Overall, how did you find the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash system to use? What did you like best about it / did you enjoy using it)? What didn't you like, and why?
I didn?t really have an opinion before the test, had seen the TV ads, didn?t want to rush out and buy one, but am far more impressed than I expected to be.

  1. What did your child(ren) think of the hand wash system? What did they like/dislike?
The children love it. Son number two (7yo) used it the first time and looked at the soap on his hand, at me, back at the dispenser, and said ?is that IT?? So I can safely guess he?s been using far too much of the pump variety soap. DS1 (10yo) assembled one of the units, and he absolutely loves it, he has AS and generally hates anything potentially germy or sticky ? this is a product made in heaven as far as he;s concerned. He should get a job on the product development team as he?s already designed the toothpaste dispenser / moisturiser / bubble bath dispensers to go with it. DD is 5 and thinks it?s the best thing on earth ? and I?m happy because when she waves her hand at it for a second time in quick succession it doesn?t give her any more soap?RESULT!!
  1. Did having the system make your child(ren) wash their hands more regularly and encourage more healthy habits, giving you peace of mind? If so, why? If not, why not? It didn?t make them wash more regularly but they certainly did it more enthusiastically ? without the usual moans and groans when they have to wash hands before a meal, for example. I?m more convinced that the germs from playing in the ?-muck-?sand pit and garden will be suitably removed though.
  1. Similarly, do you think you washed your hands any more often, more thoroughly or more willingly as a result of having the system? If so, when did you find yourself doing this when you might not have done before - eg cooking, cleaning, gardening? Don?t think it makes a difference as to the frequency, but I do like the smell and ?moisturised? feel of the aloe one which we have in the kitchen, it makes the experience less of an issue for dry allergy-prone skin. (incidentally the antibacterial soaps usually irritate my eczema, but this one didn?t)
  1. Where did you put your two hand wash systems? Did they fit well where you put them or not? Were they easy or difficult to set up and use? Did you prefer the white or stainless steel finish? Stainless steel finish went in the kitchen, as all our appliances are this colour, and guess what the white in the bathroom, which is, erm, white. Perfect choice for us.
  1. If you were previously concerned about (or at least aware of) germs in your home, do you think that having the system has reassured you or not? Why? I?m only really concerned when the children dig up grubs and muck in the garden, get over-friendly with snails and dead frogs, and knowing that they?re using this handwash when they come in from these revolting adventures is quite reassuring. Likewise for me when cooking and handling raw meat, far less concern that the bacteria will hang around.
  1. What did you think of the antibacterial hand soap? Did you like the fragrance of it or not? How does it compare with other hand washes? Which fragrance did you like best?
I?ve already mentioned I prefer the aloe one, they?re both quite nice though. I hate really perfumed soaps, but these are fine.
  1. Overall, do you think that having the hand wash system has made life (at least a bit) easier or not? And why?
Yes it probably has. There isn?t the usual trail of stickiness around the sink at the moment, which has to be a good thing!
  1. If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System to your friends with children? If so, why? If not, why not? Already have. And MIL wants some too?

We liked using the Dettol No touch. Our children especially enjoyed it. My 9yr old son and 6yr old daughter thought it was "awesome" and my 4yr old daughter said "this is cool". My 19month old son didnt say much but copied his big brother saying "wow"!

It definately encouraged all of my children to wash their hands and to wash them properly every time they went to the toilet or when they had sticky, grubby hands!

Yes hand washing is definately an important part of my childrens routine!

It did give me peace of mind that my children would wash their hands every time they needed to (and probably when they didnt!)

I put the white one in the bathroom and the silver one in the kitchen, where they both fit in beautifully! The white one matching the white bathroom suite.

I knew the children were washing their hands more often because the one in bathroom didnt even last 2 full days! so went back to the normal soap dispenser pumps (that only cost 62p!)
The one in the kitchen didnt make me wash my hands anymore than I normally would (as I am pretty hygenic!) but I did think it was great that after Id been touching raw meat I didnt have to touch the soap pump (and I just turn the tap on with my wrist!)

We all loved the cucumber fragrance most. But both were moisturising. I have sensitive hands and after some soaps my hands can get dry and itchy but with the No Touch soaps I didnt have that problem.

Very easy to set up and very easy to use.

Relatives and friends that have used it like them alot but the price puts them off abit. They are on offer at the moment in Asda (I thinkits Asda!) so could get them then. But I will only get the refills if they come down in price. As it didnt last very long in the bathroom so it would be expensive to keep buying refills.

So until the refills are (at least) half price I will just stick with the normal soap pumps!

Thank you!

  1. Overall, how did you find the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash system to use? What did you like best about it / did you enjoy using it)? What didn't you like, and why?

This was a great product test for us. The thing I liked the best was that it seemed to last a long time, in fact the kitchen one is still going here, which is far longer than a conventional handwash with a pump. It was so easy to use and with the no touch system it seemed that the canister stayed cleaner.

  1. What did your child(ren) think of the hand wash system? What did they like/dislike?

DD (5) liked it a lot, she says it was magic and cool and clever. DS (4) also seemed to be more encouraged to wash his hands after the toilet. We still have to remind him, but he was happier to use it.

  1. Did having the system make your child(ren) wash their hands more regularly and encourage more healthy habits, giving you peace of mind? If so, why? If not, why not? Both kids definately used the system to wash their hands more regularly than before. I don't know if this was a novelty effect, but it worked a treat for us.
  1. Similarly, do you think you washed your hands any more often, more thoroughly or more willingly as a result of having the system? If so, when did you find yourself doing this when you might not have done before - eg cooking, cleaning, gardening? I defintately used it more often I as I liked the smell of the soap, and being pregnant I am very sensitive to smells.
  1. Where did you put your two hand wash systems? Did they fit well where you put them or not? Were they easy or difficult to set up and use? Did you prefer the white or stainless steel finish? Very easy to set up and use, the stainless steel looked good in the kitchen, and the white matched the bathroom.
  1. If you were previously concerned about (or at least aware of) germs in your home, do you think that having the system has reassured you or not? Why? I just think that we are all a bit cleaner for using the system, especially the DC, the youngest is always filthy dirty from digging in the garden and playing outside. He doesnt seem to mind being sent up to use the system to wash his hands.
  1. What did you think of the antibacterial hand soap? Did you like the fragrance of it or not? How does it compare with other hand washes? Which fragrance did you like best? I liked both scents, but especially the cucumber. The smell seemed to linger a while on my hands which I liked.
  1. Overall, do you think that having the hand wash system has made life (at least a bit) easier or not? And why?
Yes it made life easier, my bathroom seemed to be cleaner without blobs of dried handwash everywhere! Youngest DC does like to play / make a mess. in the bathroom a lot, with whatever he can find in there.
  1. If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System to your friends with children? If so, why? If not, why not? I think overall it is quite expensive in the shops, and I'm a bit concerned about its eco-credentials, ie more plastic and battery operated. I did like it though and felt reassurred that that the kids' hands were a "bit" cleaner than normal. I think I would recommend it overall.

Thank you!! I'm trying to decide whether to spend them on the boys (ds1 3yrs, ds2 due in 3 weeks) or to save them to treat myself in a few months time when I'm back to normal. Decisions decisions..........Grin
