Video webchat with Will Young - Would you like to interview him on Mumsnet's behalf?

JustineMumsnet · 19/10/2009 12:35

So there's been a bit of discussion about the limitations of our current webchat format and seeing as we've got some video capability now we thought we'd give a video variation a try to see how that works.

We're looking for a couple of mumsnetters to come along to a venue in West London and represent MN by putting forwards Mumsnetters' questions in a video chat with Will Young next Monday (26th October) between 12.30 and 1pm.

We'll be going along with a camera crew who will film the interview which will then be aired on the site at a later date (as an edited clip with a link to a full version).

As a special reward the interviewers will then be invited to attend Will's exclusive live album promotion show and after-show party the following evening (Tuesday). If you're interested let us know here and we'll put your name in the hat.

(ps we're hoping to persuade him to sing too.)

NorkyButNice · 19/10/2009 21:23

Oi - I was here first!

He's mine I tell you...

Bleenherbe · 19/10/2009 21:30

Can I just ask, out of interest like, what is the relevance of Will Young to this website? I mean the Fonz had written books and had things to say about dyslexia..

NorkyButNice · 19/10/2009 21:43

Same relevance as all the fiction authors who turn up to plug their books on MN I guess.

I would presume he's been made aware that he'll probably be asked more probing questions than "what's your favourite biscuit" though

NorkyButNice · 19/10/2009 21:54

Actually MNHQ, that's an interesting question. Is this just a q&a about his music, or will he be willing to answer questions about other things that are more relevant/interesting to MN users who may not like his music?

Some things I'd like to ask him include

  • how did attending boarding school affect your relationship with your parents? Did you enjoy your time there?
  • do you have any advice to give to mners who have gay DCs?
  • who will you be voting for in the next election? Were you nervous before appearing on the panel for Question Time?
aseriouslyblondemoment · 19/10/2009 22:03

VinegARGHHHTits · 19/10/2009 22:51

omg i love will young, will you pay for my hotel and train fair or is that pushing it?

minicorrect · 19/10/2009 23:15

Yay! I live in west London - for the next few weeks anyway - and would love to have a chat with Will. Would be interested in his take on all the Jan Moir fall out, plus the other stuff already mentioned, and would like to find out first hand if he really is the diva he's been reported as being!
Please pick me!

SparklyGothKat · 19/10/2009 23:36

oooooooooo me please..

MonstrousMerryHenry · 19/10/2009 23:50

Not interested in Will Young, but I'd love to do another interview if you do this again!

Might you be thinking Mandela or Michelle Obama for future webchats?

MarsLady · 19/10/2009 23:52

Hubba hubba!

Would love to do this. Adore Will Young. The only time I ever voted on a Reality show was for Will to win.

moondog · 20/10/2009 00:25

Will Young??? What on earth will he have to say of interest on anything.

Gordon Brown-fantastic.
Will Young????? In essence you will plug his merchandise for him.

LadyEvenstarsCauldren · 20/10/2009 01:01

Oh yes please!!!

His very first single was released the day I buried my Grandad....

Bleenherbe · 20/10/2009 08:28

Seriously, though, HQ, I think it would be sad if these webchats turned into any old celebrity getting admired by mums kinda thing. Bring back Scheherezade Goldsmith...

escape · 20/10/2009 09:07

I don't think that's MN's style is it though Bleenherbe? In all honesty, there WILL be as many mumsnet posters/gawpers who will be as interested in slebtwaddle as there are those interested in Socio-environmental issues also...

NorkyButNice · 20/10/2009 09:16

God MN snobbery is appalling sometimes.

Unless anyone has actually sat and had a conversation with him before, how do you know that he's not going to have anything of interest to say?

If you're not interested in him, then don't watch the video or read the thread. As I said before, if he's willing to talk about other topics than his music then I think it could be really interesting.

If it were a musical artist you liked (classical, rock, pop, whatever) then would you still be complaining?

Bleenherbe · 20/10/2009 09:22

It's nto really snobbery, I was just wondering what the parenting angle was. I kind of thought most webchats had at least some ostensible parenting aspect. But maybe I have missed some which don't.

Bleenherbe · 20/10/2009 09:23

I mean politicians usually have something to say about issues which concern us as parents. Not sure Will young does, but am willing to be told otherwise.

NorkyButNice · 20/10/2009 09:40

There have been authors in to plug their latest novels -I remember the Patrick Gale one being particularly gushing but it was interesting none the less.

He's appeared on Question Time as a panellist - that suggests he'll be able to hold his own when it comes to robust, intelligent questioning.

He's one of the few openly gay popstars - that's pretty interesting and if he's willing to talk about his sexuality and how it affected (or didn't) his childhood and his career then I for one would like to read about it.

We may be parents but we can still have interests I'm things like music can't we?

NorkyButNice · 20/10/2009 09:43

Anyway I'm starting to sound like Will's personal
cheerleader which (unfortunately!) I'm not.

Just dislike the assumption that because he's a childless popstar he can't possibly have anything to say that's going to be of interest to people on a parenting site.

squeaver · 20/10/2009 10:13

Sorry but lol at Mumsnet only being about parenting!

Paolosgirl · 20/10/2009 10:23

Exactly squeaver - I may be a parent, but that doesn't stop me having interests beyond "why is my 2 year old so belligerent/why will my 11 year old not do his homework/will my 10 year old ever realise that being asked to hoover really doesn't justify hysterical wailing". I'm very happy to watch an interview with Will Young and insight into a world that is so completely different to my own.

At least it's not Myleene Klass/Katie Price/Lisa B or whatever her name is giving me parenting advice....yawn
