Columnist and author Tony Parsons will be joining us here on Monday 6th October from 9-10pm for a live chat. Tony's sixth novel, 'My Favourite Wife' has just been published and is described by The Independent as 'a much bigger, more ambitious book' than million-selling 'Man and Boy'. If you can't make the chat you can post your questions in advance here.
Hope to see you here on Monday.

Oh, and I am always interested in writing methods: you know - time of day, in a shed or not, that kind of thing...

ScummyMummy · 06/10/2008 18:22

What did you have for dinner tonight?

Do you sympathise with Fathers 4 Justice?

What's the best thing about living in Hampstead?

Did you wince or smile at Sarah Palin's folksy wink?

What brand of washing machine would you recommend?

Would you allow Jasmine to eat a few grapes going round the supermarket before you got to the checkout to pay for them?

zippitippitoes · 06/10/2008 18:23

does everyone have a novel inside them...?

ahundredtimes · 06/10/2008 18:39

lololol at scummy

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 18:51

TonyP - Do you own any shares? It's been a bugger of a day hasn't it?

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 18:55

George Bernard Shaw had a revolving hangover writing hut. Tell me about your writing space on the top floor of your house in Hampstead.

S1ur · 06/10/2008 19:44

Good evening Mr Tony Parsons,

I have limited time to read and several books waiting to be read.

However, if you were to recommend me just one of your books, which would it be?

TotalChaos · 06/10/2008 19:45

Who is your favourite crime author? Which authors have influenced your writing?

MissClavel · 06/10/2008 19:54

Serious question: are you thick skinned? Do you care about reviews? Do you say fuck'em to the bad ones, and mean it? And if you genuinely manage not to care, can you tell me how?

Thank you

Monkeytrousers · 06/10/2008 20:22

I don't know if I can hang on till 9. Might just go to bed, read, and then review tomorrow.

zippitippitoes · 06/10/2008 20:25

did you reach a point in your life when you thought yes this is how i want things to be?

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 20:26

tone, how are you? hows your dog?

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 20:28

i was thinking of ordering this book, anyone read it?

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 20:33

hi tone, i was hoping to doss about for the rest of my life, and use the fact i'm a writer, writing a novel as a cover

any tips?

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 20:49

I frequently confuse you with Prime Minister Putin - any tips on how I might more easily tell you apart? Does Putin ever appear on Newsnight and then decide to stay on late for Newsnight Review, for the crack? If the vodka is flowing for example?

bran · 06/10/2008 20:50

Hi Tony, I'm impressed that you're actually going to come and chat and haven't run screaming had unexpected last-minute commitments like a previous chatter. Do you like a challenge, or are we far from the toughest audience you've faced typed to?

Do you have a reader in mind when you write, or do you write for yourself? Why do you write? Do you just like putting thoughts down on paper, do you see the beginnings of stories all around you and then let them run to their end in your books, is it a sort of therapy or is it mostly to make money?

Monkeytrousers · 06/10/2008 20:53

All these things should probably be 'to be announced 5 mins before going live'

A sahm's life is too dull to miss the chance of a good pathetic bitch I mean rib

bran · 06/10/2008 20:55

Some authors seem to write books that work much better as films than as books, like Hornby no-one in particular in mind. Do you think your books would work well in film/on TV? Do you think they might even be better? (Apologies if this has already happened but I haven't noticed.)

Monkeytrousers · 06/10/2008 20:55

Though I know you have changed your opinion on women. At least the ones who know their place

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 20:57

bran, who shat themseleves at the last moment?

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 20:59

mn hq are normally bigging it up by now

the suspense is building .............

rachel(mumsnet) · 06/10/2008 20:59

Wow - after a slow start, there's now enough advance questions to fill the hour - Tony will try and get through as much as possible before ten but please be patient! and don't be too disappointed if he doesn't get chance to answer your question. Welcome to mumsnet, Tony Parsons...

Monkeytrousers · 06/10/2008 21:00

I've never read Hornby or Parsons. I have have not noticed an either sized hole in my life that I feel the need to fit.
Maybe that's why I am lacking in so many ways...

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 21:01

tony, tony tony

bran · 06/10/2008 21:01

Scheherazade (sp?) Goldsmith. She was going to come and do a lovely cosy chat about her book about the little ways in which we can all be eco-friendly. It was the funniest lead up to a chat ever, full of questions about the eco-friendliness of having homes and London and Devon and travelling between the two every week.
