Facebook Live about talking to kids about staying safe from abuse with NSPCC

We’re running a facebook live with NSPCC about talking to kids about staying safe from abuse. The NSPCC have developed programme called Speak out. Stay safe delivered in primary schools across the UK. Volunteers visit schools where they run workshops and assemblies to teach children how to stay safe from abuse and what to do if they have any concerns. The NSPCC are also running a campaign called PANTS that teaches parents how to talk to young children about staying safe from sexual abuse in an age appropriate and non-scary way.

Lidl say: "'Last year Lidl UK employees voted to make the NSPCC their new national charity partner for a three year period. During this period, this partnership will aim to raise £3 million to keep 1 million primary school children safe through the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe programme. This vital programme helps to empower a generation of children with the knowledge they need to stay safe. With at least 2 children in the average primary school class having suffered abuse or neglect, it’s vital that the NSPCC has the resources to visit primary schools across the UK to teach children that abuse is never OK."

Join the NSPCC live next week on Thursday 30 August at 12.30pm on Mumsnet Facebook or post up a question on this thread that we will put to the NSPCC during the live stream. We’ll link to the stream next week on this thread.

PS MONEY chasing f**kers, this has nothing to do with cookies and everything to do with cash. I've got your emails Zoe, shall I give them to a journalist?

SPEAK OUT, STAY SAFE.

^Your* words NSPCC.

Language is being removed. Lady dicks, girl penises. The clitoris is apparently just a small penis. According to BACP written guidelines.

How do children speak out about their boundaries when their discomfort is termed 'lack of inclusion'.

How dare you frame children's discomfort over boundary violation as lack of bloody inclusion.

Think about what you're saying. That someone's identity, a boy's identity counts more girl's safety.

One girl a day is raped at school. Girls are self harming under the crippling pressure of gender stereotypes. And you are agreeing with it!

You are saying that a girl can be defined by a thought process, an outward presentation.

You are sanctioning the removal of language, and a context which frames discomfort as bigoted.

You are teaching girls that discomfort with males in their spaces is bigoted.

Actually teaching it.

That if a man says an obvious life, that he is a woman, they must parrot it and accept it otherwise they are bigoted.

You are removing all their tools for safety.

How the fuck are they supposed to Speak Out?

Is the NSPCC aware that gender clinicians, in terror of their jobs, are saying privately that the biggest interference with their child and adolescent patients is "male strangers on the internet"?

Not their parents, not doctors, not the State but MALE STRANGERS aka (invoke invisible cloak of virtue) trans women?

IAmLurkacus · 30/08/2018 17:36

Thanks SpartacusAutisticus I’ve managed that now. Also found I’ve previously managed to save ‘that’ guidance from swim England there!

Gentlygently · 30/08/2018 17:41

I wonder what safeguarding questions they thought we would have?

ShrodingersSturdyPyjamas · 30/08/2018 17:42

Even the organisation supposedly set up to safeguard children cant see what a massive safeguarding issue this could potentially be.

They can. A 7 year old can see that the two do not compare.

What they are doing is CHOOSING not to deal with it.

This is their active choice.

They actively chose not to face the questions today because they know that they cannot answer them.

Thanks Spartacus and Hotrocker but I don't have the option in the same way. I'm on the app. Don't worry I will go to the desktop version on a pc.

IAmLurkacus · 30/08/2018 17:46

Are you on an iPhone Ereshkigal I found it by scrolling to the side.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 17:46

Does anyone know where this bullshit has come into the NSPCC? Which organisation is educating policing them on this?

Mrbatmun · 30/08/2018 17:47

I am totally gobsmacked at this. I just cannot believe this is happening. The NSPCC aren't even willing to discuss this. To even just back up their view that 'trans issues' are not at odds with safeguarding. Because they are so worried about being seen as transphobic. How has this happened? A shit load of girls suffered horrific abuse at the hands of a bunch of men because certain people were too worried about being seen as racist and bigoted to properly tackle a problem they were aware of. This happened really really fucking recently. And yet here we are again......

I just can't even.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 17:47

I don't want to derail this critical thread with my lameness, thank you, I will figure it out Wine

If you are going to turn society upside down by deciding that the definition of men/women and boys/girls has changed, then there are going to be people around who will exploit that change.

You can understand that whether you agree with the changes or not.

It happens with economics - whenever there is recession, war, changes of boundaries, social upheaval, there is money to be made.

The NSPCC has been groomed Totally agree. They have such a fixed idea of the concept and context of grooming, that they have not realised - which is what grooming does. You would have expected them to know better.

PositivelyPERF · 30/08/2018 17:50

NSPCC, you’re a bunch of spineless cowards, that are happy to put children, and girls in particular, at harm of sexual and physical abuse, rather than stand up to bullying men. You are revolting people and when the victims of the creeps, that will take advantage of your weakness, eventually speak out, I hope that you’re the first to fall. Disgusting hypocrites. I hope you are haunted every day for the rest of your life, by the knowledge that you helped open the door for children to be abused.

GirlScout72 · 30/08/2018 17:53

Gendered Intelligence trained both NSPCC and GirlGuides. They've also worked with Mermaids.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 17:54

They actively chose not to face the questions today because they know that they cannot answer them.

This. We see you NSPCC. If you could really reassure us that there were no safeguarding concerns you would have done so with specific reference to those concerns. Instead you have told us to fuck off. You're a disgrace to the cause you purport to represent, and to your founders and their intentions.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 17:55

Thank you Girlscout

GirlScout72 · 30/08/2018 17:55

Ps Jay Stewart of Gendered Intelligence is on the advisory panel for the management of trans prisoners, Yanno, let's lock up rapists with dicks in with ladies who haven't paid their TV licence.

BeyondAnOmnishambles · 30/08/2018 17:58

Okay I think this is a fair question...

If the NSPCC did not want to discuss concerns about gender issues today - reasonably as the chat was supposed to be about something that is absolutely unconnected (so say they) - can we arrange for them to come back and do so?

...

Mrbatmun · 30/08/2018 17:59

If you could really reassure us that there were no safeguarding concerns you would have done so with specific reference to those concerns. Instead you have told us to fuck off.

Exactly. If there is no problem, just come on and explain why there is no problem by answering the questions, surely its simple enough? Just to not even fucking turn up?Just to say 'nothing to see here, move along'?

Im another interested in what 'safeguarding' questions they thought people would ask.....

PositivelyPERF · 30/08/2018 18:02

BTW, I don’t think Mumsnet is to blame for this. They tried and I’m sure, even they didn’t expect NSPCC to be such cowards.

Ereshkigal · 30/08/2018 18:02

I'm very happy for them to come and answer the questions that have been put to them any time.
