Jillian Michaels is joining us at Mumsnet HQ for a webchat on Thursday 15 January from 1-2pm. For those who are unfamiliar with Jillian, she’s one of the world's most successful health and fitness personalities; star of Channel 4's The Biggest Loser and 15 fitness DVDs (including MN fave 30 Day Shred), as well as several best-selling books. Her Jillian Michaels Show podcast has garnered millions of listeners since its debut in 2011.

With such a die-hard crew of shredders, rippers and JM devotees here, Jillian has long been on our hit-list of webchat guests and we're delighted we're finally able to offer the opportunity to chat with her. Join us on Thursday at 1pm or post a question for Jillian on this thread in advance and we'll put your questions to her on Thursday.

Jillian is over in the UK with her critically acclaimed Maximize Your Life motivational tour, which has already taken the US by storm. The nine-city live event begins on 18 January in Glasgow and ends on 28 January in London. Find out more and buy tickets here.

Hi just to let you know you are fabulous and I would like some help with my problem legs! I'm about 5ft 4 and around 8.5stone,my legs (mainly thighs) looking heavier than the rest of me. I have a gap between my thighs but its the way I am made not because I'm underweight! But it seems to be a rather pronounced curved gap, making my thighs look heavy and wide rather like rugby players legs! I'm wondering if I do too much leg work, squats, lunges, dips etc and its bulking them up but if I don't, my inner thighs go flabby. I would like to know what exercises I can do to slim my thighs down. Many, many thanks.

I am now back to the size 8 I was pre pregnancies but my lower tummy just isn't the same. I know this is to be expected though after having children. I have toned upper abs but really struggling to get my lower abs in shape. They do feel toned underneath but with fat on top that I can't seem to shift, along with the CSection 'pooch' :(

Any tips?

colleysmill · 15/01/2015 10:00

Best webchat guest ever - bravo mn!!!

I'm a shred fan here and completed 30 days a few time but try as I might I can't for the life of me manage a proper proper press up (really hurts my back) so I end up doing them in a 4 point kneeling position. Does that matter? Is that a fair compromise? Obviously I don't want to wimp out but I do need to be able to sleep at night!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/01/2015 10:13

Hi Jillian.

I tried 30 Day Shred a few years ago, alongside taking up running, and promptly developed prolapses. I suspect the plank exercises in level 2 were far too strenuous for me. I have had to be very careful with core strength / high impact exercises ever since, I use a DVD called Hab-it, which is designed for pelvic floor strength, but is not widely distributed outside the USA.

Would you consider a pelvic floor safe DVD, maybe in conjunction with women's health physiotherapists?

djb91 · 15/01/2015 10:29

Hi Jillian,

Been shredding the pounds since last summer but I can't seem to get rid of these darn love handles. Any exercises/diet tips to help burn these off?

threeicklepickles · 15/01/2015 10:46

Hi Jillian,

I've started the shred several times but never persevered cos I'm lazy
But this time I will make it to level 2...at least...

What I need to know is how soon after giving birth can I realistically start high intensity exercise like the shred? (Normal birth, no issues etc). I suspect my pelvic floor might need improving first...

enw · 15/01/2015 10:54

Hi Jillian. Another huge fan here - your DVDs got my body and mind into shape after the birth of my DS and you continue to inspire me to want to be strong inside and out. Respect!

My fitness goal for 2015 is to complete a half marathon. I am following a running plan three times a week ( which I am loving!). Which of your DVDs would complement a running plan and how and when should they fit into the running plan for best results?

I have tickets to see you in Cardiff on 26th Jan and am looking forward to an inspirational evening!

Sunrun · 15/01/2015 10:54

I've just done day 10 of shred and am loving it!!

I'd like to reiterate two questions previously posted:

  1. I've still got a bit of a "mum tum" how do I get rid of that (although the next 20 days might do it!)
  1. What's the best way to keep up fitness after shred? I'm not going to be able to keep up exercising every day once I return to work after maternity leave and am thinking of running 2-3 times a week plus doing a shred work out twice a week. Would that work?

This x 1,000,000

Loads of woman have pelvic organ prolapse, and it is so hard (impossible?) to find a suitable exercise DVD that actually works up a sweat.

Please.....

iwantgin · 15/01/2015 12:38

oooh - It's nearly time.

Is Jillian in the mn office yet ?

Grin
ZingTheGreat · 15/01/2015 12:52

iwantgin

I think they've been busy hiding the empty bottles of gin and JM is made to wait in the lobby while they quickly run the hoover through the carpet covered in biscuit crumbs!Grin

worldgonecrazy · 15/01/2015 12:52

Will she refuse a biscuit?

iwantgin · 15/01/2015 12:54

Perhaps it depends which type of biscuits they have in ?

A jaffa cake might be acceptable. It has fruit in it Grin

spaghettiarms1 · 15/01/2015 12:55

Good afternoon Jillian,
I echo others that exercises suitable for women who have pelvic organ prolapse would be most welcome!
I have lost weight over the last few months by eating much better and walking lots everyday.
I feel I really need to step up the exercise as I am hoping to get at least a stone lighter but very much put off proper workouts due to prolapse. I have young children and am keen to exercise in my home, I must admit I am a total beginner with regards to regular workouts.
Thanks so much

merrymouse · 15/01/2015 12:56

Jaffa cakes are recommended by sports nutritionists aren't they?

ZingTheGreat · 15/01/2015 12:59

merrymouse · 15/01/2015 13:03

I think it was a bit tongue in cheek to be honest - it used to say it on the side of the packet.
