UPDATE: Watch Hillary's answers to your questions - scroll down to the bottom of the OP!

Yes, really. No, we're not kidding. Hillary Clinton - the former US Secretary of State, former First Lady and rumoured likely Democratic presidential candidate for 2016 - is visiting the UK this week to talk about her new book, Hard Choices: her memoir of her time in office as President Obama's agent overseas, after running against him for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 election. As Secretary of State, she was arguably the most powerful woman in the world for four years; if she were to revive her bid for the presidency and succeed Obama to the White House in two years' time, there'd be no contest. And this Friday, she'll be answering your questions.

Unsurprisingly, her time is strictly limited to 20 mins per session with the world's media, so rather than the usual webchat format, we figured we'd cover more ground by putting your questions to her on camera. We reckon we'll have time for about eight questions, depending on length, so in order to make sure that we ask the ones you'd most like to have answered, Tech have created a tool whereby you can nominate your favourite. Please do read through the thread and cast your vote - you can see the top 10 questions, ranked by number of votes, in the box to the right. We'll take the top eight along with us on Friday morning, and get the video up on site as quickly as possible.

So: what is it you've always wanted to ask Hillary Clinton? Now's your chance! And remember just one question each, please, or we'll be confused about what we're voting for.

Ah Smile

Hello Hillary, it's great to have you on Mumsnet! Welcome to the UK. Smile

My question is: Is it actually possible for a politician to remain completely honest, true to their beliefs and principles, and above corruption?

(This must be well-nigh - if not totally- impossible, but I would be very interested to find out what you think about this, and if you have any advice as to how you, perhaps, try to manage this yourself?...) Thank you

Is this a cunning and elaborate way for MNHQ to test out a like button?

violator · 03/07/2014 09:40

Hi Hillary, I've lots of political questions I'd like to ask, but this is mumsnet so I'll ask you a mum question.

Did you ever get comments about the fact that Chelsea is an only child, and how did you deal with them!

doobledootch · 03/07/2014 09:47

Hi I'm from Northern Ireland, a place you know well.

In my view one of the biggest threats to the peace process is rising inequality and particularly the impact that this is having on working class protestant communities. Where do you see a solution from this coming from given that the socialist voice within our political representatives seems firmly rooted within the nationalist parties?

laverneandshirl · 03/07/2014 09:50

Hillary, thanks for coming to talk to Mumsnet. My question:

Throughout your career, have you ever doubted your abilities, and if so, how did you keep yourself focused on achieving your goals?

WorkingBling · 03/07/2014 09:54

I'm little overexcited about this. Some great questions I've already voted for. But one of my own:
Is the American political system where we see fathers then sons as president now, (hopefully) husband then wife, truly democratic? On the one hand, I think your time first as first lady then as secretary of state makes you arguably the most well qualified candidate for the presidency possibly in history. But nonetheless it makes me uncomfortable too. How do you think that can be mitigated?

Ha - I might vote for this one Grin

Of course she's running.
She's flooding the media tomorrow. www.theguardian.com/world/video/2014/jul/02/hillary-clinton-what-question-video - just in case anyone wants to increase the chances that their questions are answered.

pinkballoon19 · 03/07/2014 10:28

Hi Hillary - what was the least pleasant aspect of being First Lady?

woeface · 03/07/2014 10:38

Oh wow. This is very exciting.

Hypothetically speaking, how do you think Bill would cope as First Gent?

MirandaGoshawk · 03/07/2014 10:47

Dear Hillary

Here in the UK we see the US as 'our cousins across the Pond' and champions of liberty and free speech, but why do you think that so many people in the world see the USA as an enemy?

WalkingThePlank · 03/07/2014 10:52

Hillary, thank you for answering Mumsnetter's questions.

My question: Monica Lewinsky has reappeared - she is even in London at the moment. Who is driving this - does she have something to sell or is she being 'encouraged' by the Republicans to show you up?

Good luck in 2016. Go Hillary!

LineRunner · 03/07/2014 10:55

What's Bill like in the sack?

VivienScott · 03/07/2014 10:57

Given that like the rest of the world, the US has moved on dramatically since the right to bear arms was written into the US constitution, why do you think so many Americans still feel so strongly about keeping firearms with all the tragedies that surround them?

culturemulcher · 03/07/2014 10:59

Hillary Clinton!

And this is why I love MN Grin.

Surely we HAVE to wrap up the session with the biscuit question?

roselover · 03/07/2014 11:00

I am looking at your picture and thinking -the rooms she has been in??? two questions - which one impressed you the most? (People etc) = AND MORE IMPORTANT _ why is no one freaking out about what's happening in Syria?(and neighbouring countries)?? HOw can we make people care - and what do you really feel - should we leave alone incase they come and start attacking our trains and your skyscrapers or should we engage ….I have personal experience of loss in war (friend of friend) - its all personal in the end Hilary - what should we do???

roselover · 03/07/2014 11:01

also does he remember valentines day - I mean he looks the type that would!

MarmaladeShatkins · 03/07/2014 11:06

Hi Hillary,

Your country's vehemence when it comes to the right to bear arms, especially in light of the several gun-related tragedies in recent times, is a scar on your nation's face. Surely, America cannot continue without addressing an amendment that is antiquated and irrelevant to life today.

Do you think that your own stance on gun control might hinder your progression in your political career? (I hope not!)

You are awesome btw!

Lioninthesun · 03/07/2014 11:10

What difference do you think having a female President would have on the USA and in turn the world?

SheKnewSheWasRight · 03/07/2014 11:49

Dear Hillary,

What key differences do you think we'd see in a world where men and women were equally represented in government and in the boardroom?

And is this achievable?

Thanks Smile

queenbitchapparently · 03/07/2014 11:53

Hello Ms Clinton.

It seems fracking has become a massive problem in the US with many communities coming forward to take on the fracking companies for damages caused by fracking.
Franking is currently being pushed on the British public, regardless of public opinion, laws are being changed to stop public resistance.
Do you think the British government should look at the US issues with it and take heed that fracking is not the way forward?

GrubbyOldSock · 03/07/2014 12:09

Ms Clinton, firstly I will be voting for you when you run in 2016.

Although as an overseas from Florida, it probably won't be counted anyway..

I think like many voters I was concerned when Obama got the democratic nomination that he wasn't ready for presidency. After two term of seeing him try so hard and being knocked back repeatedly I feel even more strongly that that was the case. He just wasn't able to work with the republicans for any sort of effective leadership.

How will you be different? How will you get the republicans (who have become so right wing so as to be almost unrecognizable as a party to work with you so government can start doing something again? And s a follow up how will you do that while staying true to your beliefs as a democrat?
