UPDATE: Watch Hillary's answers to your questions - scroll down to the bottom of the OP!

Yes, really. No, we're not kidding. Hillary Clinton - the former US Secretary of State, former First Lady and rumoured likely Democratic presidential candidate for 2016 - is visiting the UK this week to talk about her new book, Hard Choices: her memoir of her time in office as President Obama's agent overseas, after running against him for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 election. As Secretary of State, she was arguably the most powerful woman in the world for four years; if she were to revive her bid for the presidency and succeed Obama to the White House in two years' time, there'd be no contest. And this Friday, she'll be answering your questions.

Unsurprisingly, her time is strictly limited to 20 mins per session with the world's media, so rather than the usual webchat format, we figured we'd cover more ground by putting your questions to her on camera. We reckon we'll have time for about eight questions, depending on length, so in order to make sure that we ask the ones you'd most like to have answered, Tech have created a tool whereby you can nominate your favourite. Please do read through the thread and cast your vote - you can see the top 10 questions, ranked by number of votes, in the box to the right. We'll take the top eight along with us on Friday morning, and get the video up on site as quickly as possible.

So: what is it you've always wanted to ask Hillary Clinton? Now's your chance! And remember just one question each, please, or we'll be confused about what we're voting for.

I have followed with interest the move towards greater equality for LGBT rights in the USA, and was particularly pleased to see the support given by your family for Shane Bitney Crone's film "Bridegroom" which documented the difficulties he and his late partner experienced growing up in Middle America, and the injustices and prejudice he encountered after his partner Tom Bridegroom sadly died.
My question is, what still needs to be done to bring full equality to LGBT citizens in the USA and also, what steps you could take to influence human rights abuses in countries such as Uganda where homosexuality is still criminalised and GLBT/human rights issues are rife?

Catmint · 02/07/2014 14:09

How can women in politics step out of a male dominated model of political behaviours where emotional = weak; women's appearance is equated with their performance and nobody ever admits to mistakes and therefore cannot describe that they have learnt from them?

PetraArkanian · 02/07/2014 14:20

The Founding Fathers of the USA could not have intended that there should be a situation where only a very few families would have the funds to run for president, thus leading to the formation of political dynasties (Kennedy, Bush and potentially Clinton). How do you think the Presidential process should be changed to open it up to candidates who do not have the great wealth needed to run?

StampyIsMyBoyfriend · 02/07/2014 14:20

What are you most looking forward to about becoming a Grandmother?

hoboken · 02/07/2014 14:25

Hillary,

What do you believe should be the number one priority for the next US adminstration?

tiktok · 02/07/2014 14:32

Amazing coup for MN!!

I would like to ask if she ever despairs that the us will see sense about gun control and start allowing legislators to actually do something about it. She will be aware that the rest of the world looks at this issue unable to comprehend why it is taking them so long.

ICanHearYou · 02/07/2014 14:36

Hillary do you ever lie in bed and think about all the thousands of mis-placed children who have unsafe, unsanitary living conditions as a direct result of your 'interventions' abroad?

Lweji · 02/07/2014 14:39

What would make you a good president?

BeCool · 02/07/2014 14:40

OMG there is so much I would like to ask - good work MNHQ!!!

Maternity rights in the US are appalling for such a wealthy capitalist economy. Add into this the recent decision at the Supreme Court that religious companies (ignores question as to can a company even be religious?) can have a say over a woman's right to birth control (via the health insurance they provide), why do women get such a hard time in USA and do you see women's employment rights improving anytime soon?

nettie · 02/07/2014 15:12

In the light of distrust of Atheism in the US, do you think it would be possible to have an openly Atheist President?

Well done Mumsnet.

Go Hillary!

SconeRhymesWithGone · 02/07/2014 15:13

Hillary, I don't have a question, but I know you will read this entire thread so I just want to say that I voted for you in the 2008 Florida primary and that I do hope you will run in 2016. I am also very glad that you accepted President Obama's invitation to become Secretary of State.

And anyone who doubts that there is a "vast right-wing conspiracy" just needs to go to the Amazon website where there is obviously a concerted effort by your political detractors to vilify you through reviews of your book. I know you have seen it before and that you have, by necessity, developed a thick skin, but I just want to say that most Americans have great admiration and respect for you, and nearly everyone I know wants you to be our next president.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/07/2014 15:18

How fabulous!

Lots of brilliant questions here already, am really looking forward to this. So I shall cut to the chase and ask Hillary (wow) something all of Woolly Hugs would love to know, do you knit or crochet at all?

:)

Want2bSupermum · 02/07/2014 15:28

OMG - this is awesome.

Question I really want to ask: Do you regret not divorcing Mr Clinton after he left office?

However I want to ask: Having given birth in the US twice I am very thankful for the reforms you put in place to require a minimum 48 hour stay after delivery and I wanted you, not Obama, spearheading healthcare reform. How would you have changed the way healthcare is financed and delivered here in the US? If you were president, what changes would you make to the policies currently in place?

Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE run for office. It should have been you in 2008 and many of us are still scratching our heads trying to figure out how Obama won the nomination.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/07/2014 15:50

This is a real coup - how fabulous. Praying that the DC go to flipping sleep during this.

My question is: Hillary, what are your views on the rather piecemeal maternity rights across the US?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/07/2014 15:52

No! No! I want to change it

"Hillary: What are your views on the rather piecemeal parental rights systems across the US?"

Sweetmotherfudger · 02/07/2014 16:03

Hillary what is the most important lesson you can teach a daughter?

gelati3 · 02/07/2014 16:30

Thomas Alfred Tayor, suspected child rapist- allegations that you joked about getting him off the hook and lied about victim when you were a young attorney. What is your side of the story?

middlings · 02/07/2014 16:37

Well done MN! What a coup.

Sweetmother, brilliant question. I'll vote for your when Tech does his thing.

FairPhyllis · 02/07/2014 16:56

OK, I've recovered now.

My question:

The vast majority of instigators and perpetrators of violence in international conflicts and terrorism are male. Domestically, the vast majority of violence in the world is perpetrated by men. Globally, about 1 in 3 women suffers violence at the hands of a man in their lifetime (WHO estimate). Would you support a security strategy that explicitly named pervasive global male violence as a national and domestic security threat?

marriedtothejob · 02/07/2014 17:17

I vote for LadyCybil's question already!

stinkingbishop · 02/07/2014 17:23

If you could change one thing to make the world safer, happier and more full of potential for Chelsea and all our daughters...what would it be?

charlieandlola · 02/07/2014 17:25

If you run in 2016, how will Mr Clinton cope with being the first, First husband/Man FMOTUS ? . You'll be fabulous as the first woman POTUS, good luck to you in 2016.

Good work , MN, good work Thanks

unobtanium · 02/07/2014 17:30

Hello Hillary,

do you think there is any hope, I mean REALLY, for species under threat of extinction through poaching?

Thanks Hillary and thanks MN

KittyVonCatsington · 02/07/2014 17:46

If you had to pick just one issue that lies at the hearts of all mother's, what would you pick and why?
