UPDATE: Watch Hillary's answers to your questions - scroll down to the bottom of the OP!

Yes, really. No, we're not kidding. Hillary Clinton - the former US Secretary of State, former First Lady and rumoured likely Democratic presidential candidate for 2016 - is visiting the UK this week to talk about her new book, Hard Choices: her memoir of her time in office as President Obama's agent overseas, after running against him for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 election. As Secretary of State, she was arguably the most powerful woman in the world for four years; if she were to revive her bid for the presidency and succeed Obama to the White House in two years' time, there'd be no contest. And this Friday, she'll be answering your questions.

Unsurprisingly, her time is strictly limited to 20 mins per session with the world's media, so rather than the usual webchat format, we figured we'd cover more ground by putting your questions to her on camera. We reckon we'll have time for about eight questions, depending on length, so in order to make sure that we ask the ones you'd most like to have answered, Tech have created a tool whereby you can nominate your favourite. Please do read through the thread and cast your vote - you can see the top 10 questions, ranked by number of votes, in the box to the right. We'll take the top eight along with us on Friday morning, and get the video up on site as quickly as possible.

So: what is it you've always wanted to ask Hillary Clinton? Now's your chance! And remember just one question each, please, or we'll be confused about what we're voting for.

Hi Hillary,

In the remainder of your lifetime (hopefully many years!) what would you most like to achieve?

HerRoyalNotness · 02/07/2014 17:53

If Obama doesn't manage to reform Maternity Leave in the USA before his term ends, will you carry this issue forward and what would your proposals be?

As an American expat living in the UK, I (and many expats) are feeling the squeeze from our financial institutions regarding FATCA. The vast majority of us are not Cayman-islands money shufflers (cough Romney cough), we're hard-working Americans being punished without cause. What can you do to ensure that the millions of us around the globe aren't forced to renounce our citizenship just to be able to hold a bank account? Thank you for your time.

Dignity in Dying advocates a change in the law on assisted dying. We believe that, subject to strict upfront safeguards, the law should allow terminally ill, mentally competent adults to request life-ending medication from a doctor. The dying patient would then have the choice to self-administer that medication at a time that was right for them.

Lord Falconer's Assisted Dying Bill will get its second reading on July 18th. What is your view on assisted dying?

juneau · 02/07/2014 18:58

Actually, strike my earlier question, I have a better one:

'Mrs Clinton, With the death toll from mass shootings alone standing at over 900 in the past seven years, what do you think would have to happen for America to have a sensible debate about gun control?'

PeachyParisian · 02/07/2014 19:01

What's the best advice you can give to a woman in politics?

i'm squealing with excitement eeeeeeeeeee Grin I wish I could vote in the US

MrsGeorgeMichael · 02/07/2014 19:05

Is the story true about you and Mr Clinton leaving Little Rock one day and stopping at a gas station where an old boyfriend served you at the pumps. Apparently Bill said "gee, you could have been the wife of a gas attendant" and you said something like "no bill, i would have been married to the president of the united states"

I don't care if its not true, go hilliary!

Aghaidh · 02/07/2014 19:13

Until she officially announces her candidacy, she's not going to answer questions about what she'd do if she ran for president (hint, she is not going to announce her candidacy for US president while on a visit to the UK).

intothenevernever · 02/07/2014 19:23

Hi Hillary, Who is advising you to throw Biden under a bus and don't you think you should sack them? The Republicans will be doing everything they can to paint you as as shifty anyway because of erm..you know (it starts with B). Stop the Machiavellian business.

sickofsocalledexperts · 02/07/2014 19:26

Do you still ever get men talking over to you, to the (male) junior in the room? How do you deal if so?

VenusDeWillendorf · 02/07/2014 19:40

Who does your hair Hilary? Do you think that women over 50, say, should have it short?

Oh, and do you play a musical instrument, +/- sing. What kind of voice have you?

Oh, and is your ring finger longer than your index finger?

I know that's three, but they're a lot lightweight.

(You needn't answer this next one at all, but it's what we were all asking really at the time "why did you not LTB?")

travailtotravel · 02/07/2014 19:41

I am in awe. My question

You've obviously been involved in some major global changes and situations. You've made a huge difference. But there will have been times when you weren't able to negotiate or gain what you wanted as a result. How do you deal with the 'unfinished business'? Do you wish you could have done more? Do you think about it still (its rare we can let go of all the things we wish we could have done, so just wondering if you have made peace with all that you achieved and weren't able to).

VenusDeWillendorf · 02/07/2014 19:41

Maybe I should spell Hillary right!! Blush

wordsmithsforever · 02/07/2014 19:47

I'd also like to ask for your comments about the 12 year old rape victim who was in a coma for a week and rendered infertile, as a result of her rape.

You have been quoted defending her rapist (and indeed I believe you have acknowledged he was guilty) in court by calling this child "emotionally unstable" and saying that girls have a tendency to "exaggerate or romanticize sexual experiences especially when they come from disorganized families, such as the complainant.”

Any comments?

Hello Hilary, what are your thoughts that women and ethnic minorities in politics are expected to be role model
No one ever says a white middle class man has to be a role model, they just need to be competent

Stopmithering · 02/07/2014 19:57

Hello Hillary, thanks for your time.
Which woman, living or dead, do you most admire and why?

DoctorGilbertson · 02/07/2014 20:27

How do you see the role of the US on the international stage in the next 50 years?

DoItTooJulia · 02/07/2014 20:29

Hi Hillary,

My question is, how do you process it all? It's such serious work that you do, often life and death and yet you're still human. So how do you process it all?

FallonColby · 02/07/2014 20:30

Hi Hillary, hope you are enjoying London.
Is the "special relationship" really as strong as it was or is it now just a quaint diplomatic turn of phrase?

NotWeavingButDarning · 02/07/2014 20:42

Shock My hero.

During your bid for the 2008 Democratic Party nomination, the misogyny directed at you was totally overt and often jaw-droppingly vicious. It must have been very hurtful.

Do you have plans to try to preempt that kind of vitriol this time around, should you choose to run again, or do you think that that type of attention is something you have to expect and accept as a woman in a position of authority today?

funnyperson · 02/07/2014 20:51

How do you explain the ongoing inequality in health treatment for black women in the United States compared with white men? and (supplementary) what have you personally done to address the cultural attitudes in US society which persist in treating women and men and whites and blacks differently when ill.

NB Lots of research on U.S emergency dept treating people with e.g heart attacks to back up my question

nameequality · 02/07/2014 20:56

Hillary - your 1995 speech to the UN "women's rights are human rights" was absolutely groundbreaking:

It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines broken, simply because they are born girls.

It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution.

It is a violation of human rights when women are doused with gasoline, set on fire and burned to death because their marriage dowries are deemed too small.

It is a violation of human rights when individual women are raped in their own communities and when thousands of women are subjected to rape as a tactic or prize of war.

It is a violation of human rights when a leading cause of death worldwide among women ages 14 to 44 is the violence they are subjected to in their own homes.

It is a violation of human rights when young girls are brutalized by the painful and degrading practice of genital mutilation.

It is a violation of human rights when women are denied the right to plan their own families, and that includes being forced to have abortions or being sterilized against their will.

*My question: Did any men try to stop you making this speech or suggest you "tone it down".

HumphreyCobbler · 02/07/2014 21:02

This is brilliant. I can't think of a question that hasn't already been asked, but really looking forward to this.

TheWholeOfTheSpoon · 02/07/2014 21:05

Do you believe the Common Core has been a success and, if not, what are your visions for the future of our children's education?

I ask as I believe it's had an adverse effect on the breadth of primary and secondary education. And, if a parent with a 1st class Maths degree struggles to understand what a 4th Grade math problem means, what hope does a 9 year old?!

Jcee · 02/07/2014 21:05

Hi Hillary, great to have you here & thanks for your time...

The premise of your book is that we all face hard choices in our lives. What would you say is the hardest choice you've had to make (politically or personally) and how has that decision influenced/affected you?

Also be interested to know what toe polish you have on today...
