We're delighted that the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, will be joining us for a webchat this Thursday evening 8 and 9pm.

Next week the Deputy PM will be joining other world leaders, celebrities and business leaders who are gathering in New York for the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Summit. He will be aiming for global action to reduce the shocking number of women who die during pregnancy and childbirth in the world's poorest countries.

Nick is happy to answer your questions on the UN summit as well as on his role as Deputy Prime Minster. Join us on Thursday evening or if you can't make it along then post your question (one each only please) here.

Thanks.

At my nearest nursing college 76 will commence at year 1. By year 3 only 12 will qualify . I rest my case Nick on retirement.

AuntyJ · 16/09/2010 20:53

Nick - thanks for answering my question. An hour is just not enough time. Good luck @ the party conference in Liverpool, I think you may want to invest in a hard hat! Grin

NickClegg · 16/09/2010 20:53

@GeraldineAubergine

Mr Clegg do you think you are reasurring any of the people who doubt the efficacy and morality of the coalition government with the answers that you are giving this evening?

Give me a chance! Am answering as rapidly/sincerely/fully as I can - no one can say I'm not facing the music.

Ponders · 16/09/2010 20:53

"Nick is happy to answer your questions on the UN summit as well as on his role as Deputy Prime Minster."

taintedpaint · 16/09/2010 20:54

How many advisors have you got there with you Nick? It would be interesting to know how many of these 'answers' are your own. Some of them don't match up to the questions at all.

BecauseImWorthIt · 16/09/2010 20:54

Whoah! Justine - when did you become DPM?!

tweetymum · 16/09/2010 20:54

'Of course he was tweety that is precisely why he never budgeted for our troops to be properly equipped when they were sent off to war, so far too many died as a direct result.'

Herbie, we shouldn't even be in those wars in the first place. Sorry if this offends you. And there has been a lot of toing and froing on this subject too. And wasn't it Bliar who got us into it in the first place?

NickClegg · 16/09/2010 20:54

Yes, if it's aimed at me.

@MoralDefective

Is 'git' a sweary word?

JustineMumsnet · 16/09/2010 20:54

You really have not answered the Fawcett Society question.

It is quite important, you know us being a group of women and all

ruthie48 · 16/09/2010 20:55

To powerkitty- agree with you but check out quote from Philip Larkin from previous blogger!!

pollycazalet · 16/09/2010 20:55

Just to remind everyone of the "partial" IFS view that the plans are clearly regressive. Funnily enough when the IFS examined the manifestos and were positive about the Lib Dems' manifesto, Mr Clegg found them thoroughly IMpartial.

"The Chancellor claimed in his Budget speech that the June 2010 Budget was a 'progressive Budget', backed up by distributional analysis in the Budget documentation that showed that tax and benefit changes due to come into effect between now and 2012-13 will hit the richest more than the poorest. IFS researchers have previously cast doubt on this claim, noting that the main measures which will lead to losses amongst better-off households were announced by the previous government, and that the reforms to be in place by 2014-15 are generally regressive. The distributional analysis in the Budget documents also excluded the effects of some cuts to housing benefit, Disability Living Allowance and tax credits that will tend to hit the bottom half of the income distribution more than the top half.

IFS research makes use of analysis published by the Department for Work and Pensions since the Budget, and attempts to reflect the impact of all the benefit cuts announced in the Budget. It shows that, once all of the benefit cuts are considered, the tax and benefit changes announced in the emergency Budget are clearly regressive as, on average, they hit the poorest households more than those in the upper-middle of the income distribution in cash, let alone percentage, terms".

ravenAK · 16/09/2010 20:57

Agree the Fawcett Society question needs a better answer.

Obviously Nick doesn't have one.

Abysmal performance, can we have a real Tory next time please?
