We're delighted that the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, will be joining us for a webchat this Thursday evening 8 and 9pm.

Next week the Deputy PM will be joining other world leaders, celebrities and business leaders who are gathering in New York for the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Summit. He will be aiming for global action to reduce the shocking number of women who die during pregnancy and childbirth in the world's poorest countries.

Nick is happy to answer your questions on the UN summit as well as on his role as Deputy Prime Minster. Join us on Thursday evening or if you can't make it along then post your question (one each only please) here.

Thanks.

@FrameyMcFrame

What about Sheffield Forgemasters though Nick? You sold them down the river.

Forgemasters were promised an £80 million loan by the last Government 11 working days before the election was called - from a 2010 budget which simply didn't have enough money in it. The loan was not affordable, and it was wrong for Labour to write out cheques they knew would bounce. I regret as much as anyone else that we couldn't go ahead with that loan when we got into Government as Forgemasters is a brilliant company which I know well - but we've offered any help we can manage to Forgemasters once the financial picture for future years is clearer after the Spending Round is complete.

I think Clegg needs someone to mop his brow...

pollycazalet · 16/09/2010 20:59

Mr Clegg, can you give us an insight into just how worried you are about the LibDem conference this weekend? What's the strategy for minimising rebellion? Or is it the Blair masochism strategy all over again?

Amapoleon · 16/09/2010 20:59

I've already asked that one Framey Wink

omnishambles · 16/09/2010 20:59

To be fair you have been brave coming on here and I dont think many people doubt your personal motivation - its just people dont trust the Tories and dont think the Libdems are strong enough to act as a brake.

CheekyLittleSox · 16/09/2010 20:59

Avoiding the NHS entirely. Why?

MoralDefective · 16/09/2010 21:00

Do you really think that the people who tactically voted for your party will do so again(that is,people who voted to keep the cons out)

the cuts to front line services are all over the news today - especially policing. where are the cuts coming from? my force has frozen recruitment when they were set to take on at least 4 more intakes this year. all now dropped. thats frontline police not being replaced and government claims today that it will not affect services?? id like to know how.

tinkgirl · 16/09/2010 21:00

still no real answers on the state of education in this country - want to know what really goes on, then you can work shadow me for a day, you'll have to leave the advisers at home though, our kids are exposed to enough crap already. is the reason you've avoided these questions because you've no answers

reallywoundup · 16/09/2010 21:00

i was thinking the same Ponders!

longfingernails · 16/09/2010 21:00

Hi Nick.

I think you are a credit to the Lib Dems. Well done on the progress so far!

My question:

Domestic departmental budgets are being cut by 25-40%.

Will you therefore fight for EU budgets to be slashed by at least 50%?

LadyBlaBlah · 16/09/2010 21:00

They didn't just sign it. That is totally misleading and you know it

breathtakingben · 16/09/2010 21:01

Nick, do you still support a levy on the banks, despite the fact that it will decrease trading and therefore growth and put us at a greater risk of double dip recession?

When you answer in your own voice, Nick, I cant help but warm to you. But your answers to so many questions sound so... Careful. I can't help but feel sorry for the position you have chosen. I certainly don't envy you.
