A plate has fallen down the back of the loo - how can I get it out?

And not just any plate - this is a plate painted by ME for dd's hair bands! I did it when she was painting a mug for dh- the man was so impressed he put it in the window. [preen]

It's annoying.

Now the cistern of the loo is built into a tongue and groove type wall affair, and can only be accessed from the top. The plate has fallen down, below the cistern, onto the floor below.

I can't reach it, nobody can reach it.

Any ideas?

I don't think I have. The only thing I have is a suction thing for hanging flannels on from Argos. It won't be sucky enough, it falls off all the time when a flannel is wet.

Oh bugger.

i want it back.

Perhaps I'll just have to go and buy super glue tomorrow.

I've just had to explain to dh why I'm laughing so much. Guinea pigs with glue soaked sponges...lol

OK, different angle, you know the side next to the sink, the right hand side of the loo as you look at it.
Could you get a drill with a large bit and drill through there and attach something to the plate that way?
or even one of those really big drill circle things and make a hole?

I don't think superglue will work unless its spread on quite a large area, and then you run the risk of ruining your booble pate .

I'm still giving it thought....

We have guinea pigs.

They'd probably like a Saving Bobbles Platter type mission.

How big are your children? or the neighbours'?

could you stand on the loo and lower one of the smaller ones down, they could reach in and get the pate?

does a (wet) flannel weigh more than the dry recumbent plate?

if yes, then I would not use it, although the mini suckers I have are suprisingly powerful so long as they are everso slightly moistened around the rim.

a dry sucker is no use to man nor beast (nor booble pate)

Fine.

ignore me.

You plate can stay there forever until it is covered in dust and forgotten

I'd love to have guinea pigs, and sock's chickens. I'd actually let a bird in my house if it could get this plate out. And I don't do birds.

I'm unsure personally about how effective the guinea pigs are going to be. Unless I could lower them on strings - have they got a good grip?

Bugger.

There must be a way. I'm going to inspect behind the sink and see if there's a little door. A helpful, surprising, little door which has just appeared.

can you get a couple of poles (bamboo sticks whatever) with parcel tape inbetween - try to get loop of parcel tape underneath plate?

DH has very long arms and I can't remember where you are (suspect darn sarth - which would be no good)

I love that we're now trying to rescue pate

Is it foie gras, or something?

can you not just get him to paint a whole new plate

Report
PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 18:37

not that I would do that of course.

I would have hammered my way in by now and blamed DH's lack of handy-man skills that did not prevent me from hammering my way in!

I painted the plate! Me, me, me, me, me.

Hmm. Maybe that is best, or the thing or material attached to two bamboo poles. Like a hammock.

Do you know what, saw a hole at the bottom, round the corner, and prop the plate up over the hole post rescue.

Just think in 100 years time, when watching The Antiques Roadshow someone will carefully unwrap their newspaper package to reveal the mythical hairbooblepate plate, found shoved down the back of the lavvy in 2008..

Sod mini suckers, what about a common old normal loo plunger, that you could extend with a broom handle?

Report
PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 18:39

ah, so in that case, YOU can paint a whole new masterpiece, and this current plate will become the holy grail of bobble plates that can be spoken about with awe for generations to come.......
