"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

LittleTalkingMan

Ugh too, to someone minding their own business putting on a "leggy display", or "busty display", presumably whilst also "breaking their silence"

Phrase book of shit daily mail lingo

Icecoldfeet20 · 01/07/2024 22:45

“Both Mom/mum and baby doing well” on birth posts. Cant explain why I hate this, think it’s because it should just be, [insert woman’s name] and the baby are healthy.

I thought to diddle was to cheat or steal as in ‘diddled him out of his inheritance’.

Then it is part of innocent language.

‘Diddle, diddle dumpling, my son John’

’Hey doddle diddle the cat and the fiddle’

Yes. Diddle is criminal, sly, sneaky. Diddled out of money
But as a colloquialism Diddle is mastrubation

AffIt · 01/07/2024 22:46

I reserve a very niche hatred for people using the word 'obligated' when they mean 'obliged'.

I suspect they also compulsively misuse reflexive pronouns.

ColourMeBlue · 01/07/2024 22:46

"I was today years old when"
"Run don't walk"
"🙌Thank me later🙌"

All those phrases ANNOY ME.Especially the "thank me later" with the bloody hands either side. Its always said after some shitty tip someone has given 😂

Anyone who posts one of those bloody awful dire memes (can we also ban memes?) accompanied by the words "be like"! I'm a very calm rational person, ordinarily, but those make me want to take a fly swat to the poster.

Like 'Be More Roy Cropper.' Smile

Educate yourself.

Usually uttered by a barely literate Tik Tok youth.

Oh god yes, 'educate yourself' the phrase I now associate with conspiracy theorists

Famalam - my ex bf used to refer to his family as his 'famalam' 🤢

I've also started to really cringe at the word 'wholesome' getting used loads recently. 'I had such a wholesome weekend.'

HATE the “wholesome” invasion. Makes me want to shoot up black tar heroin with a rusty needle.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 01/07/2024 22:48

'Mamma bear'.

I've just seen it on a thread but I've seen it a few times on MN in the last few months.

Makes me want to 🤮

ANYTHING to do with Tik Tok brings me out in such a rage I want to jump up and down, flailing my fists like Rumplestiltskin.

Anything with ‘girl’ or ‘girlie’. It’s WOMEN ffs.

Yes. And also men who refer to 'ladies' incessantly, thinking they're being very PC and respectful when they actually mean 'women' but seem too afraid to say the word women. Seems to afflict life coach twats very badly.

Mummadeze · 01/07/2024 22:51

Can’t believe how annoying I am! So many phrases in my vocabulary are irritating the crap out of people by the sounds of it. Can’t think of any that annoy me. Maybe arks instead of asks, but just a little bit.

'Educate yourself' really annoys me. So patronising.

’Honestly’ annoys me greatly. ‘Honestly I would do this’, ‘Honestly just tell him’ etc. It enrages me.

Mischievous pronounced mischeevious.

Sunhatweather · 01/07/2024 22:56

‘Brew’ or ‘cuppa’ for tea. Why not just say ‘cup of tea’?
Oh and ‘life coach’ annoys me. I realise that’s probably a ‘me’ thing.

Levelling up

Particularly when levelling up is used as an excuse by politicians to level down instead.
