To want to ban these phrases (not light-hearted - this would be my first act as dictator)

"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

You lot are 'legends'

No, I’m just a ‘ledge’ 😂

Sierra26 · 01/07/2024 21:30

Oh and clothes now being ‘pieces’

They’re not medieval artefacts, you bought them from H&M

CollyBobble · 01/07/2024 21:30

'Hey' as a written greeting. I've had two fools from British Gas and Curry's both address me in that manner. So rude and unprofessional.

'This too shall pass' trotted out by the feeble minded who can't offer any kind of constructive advice.

tobedtoMN · 01/07/2024 21:30

Stunned no-one has said this already :

"Put your stamp on it" on EVERY fucking property programme ever made (which is a lot).

Gnash gnash.

Staycation - it's a HOLIDAY

RosaMoline · 01/07/2024 21:30

’The boy done good’
I also have an irrational hate of the word ‘ chuckle’

Busybeemumm · 01/07/2024 21:30

Maybe just maybe

AsTreesWalking · 01/07/2024 21:31

All of these!
But my most hated is 'disinterested' when what is meant is 'uninterested'. Quite different attitudes of mind.
Oh, and why does no one use 'courage' any more? It's always 'bravery'.

TulipCat · 01/07/2024 21:31

Anyone who abbreviates chocolate to "choc" should be shut in a cupboard. Hot choc, box of chocs.... Garghhhh!!

Planesmistakenforstars · 01/07/2024 21:31

Dear reader
So I did a thing
Craft beer
I'm just going to leave this here
Pissed instead of pissed off
Grinds my gears

ToWhitToWhoo · 01/07/2024 21:32

'Deliver' unless you're actually bringing something to the door.

'Deliverables', ugh.

'Journey' unless you're actually travelling somewhere.

'The will of the people': people are not a single body with a single will. At least say 'the will of the majority', unless you actually want to sound like Stalin.

'Left-brained' and 'right=brained'. Pure pseudo-science in the aid of rigidly categorizing people.

@OptimismvsRealism sorry, but I have been planning to be dictator (i will take on the title shogun) of the world since before I was born. you would have to fight me first.

I have a lot of plans. there will be a re-education centre for people who don't like cats for a start.

I do like cats so perhaps I could be some shugo in charge of banning stupid phrases?

Agreed

Busybeemumm · 01/07/2024 21:33

How's you?

Busybeemumm · 01/07/2024 21:34

Long time no see

JL690 · 01/07/2024 21:34

Debated, as in "I debated Rishi Sunak". It would only be accurate if Rishi Sunak was the topic of the debate. It is totally inaccurate if used to describe with whom you debated the topic.

All those snippy, smart-arse phrases people use when making a point on social media:
'Louder for the people in the back ...'
'Let me correct that for you ...'
'I don't know who needs to hear this today, but ...'
Especially 👏 when 👏 interspersed 👏 with 👏 emphasis 👏 claps 👏.

Wintersgirl · 01/07/2024 21:35

My MIL uses the phrase "the boys" meaning DH, BIL and FIL I don't know why but it winds me right up, she also uses the term "tucking in" as in eating food.
"Where's FIL?" I ask "he's tucking in to his breakfast" NO, he's eating his breakfast, just stop!
