My husband’s long and arduous weekend. Handholds needed for him

Just a quick post, while our dinner cooks. My husband has had such a long and trying weekend. Let me know if you have any messages of support that you would like me to pass along.

He’s been on a 48 hour stag do bender. It’s been particularly tough on him because he’s 42 years old and has high blood pressure. God bless him.

There have been pub crawls, smoked meat cookouts, distillery tours where they tasted 25 different spirits, poker games and much more. And my husband has pushed through like an absolute saint. He didn’t go to bed until after 4am on both nights and has even lost his poor little voice from all the karaoke. He did 2 Cher songs! Wow!

I’ve had an easy weekend of it, in the homestead. Looking after 3 kids and getting all the washing done after our family holiday. Had a full day of work on Friday. Caught up on some DIY in the evenings too. General relaxation.

Which is why, when my husband arrived home this afternoon at 4.45pm and said he would be going up to bed for nap, I was happy to do the kids dinner and bedtime on my own.

The poor soul. Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts.

I find young children are perfect in this situation...they seem to instinctively know the best thing to do. I recall after my DH had had a similarly challenging time and fell asleep on the sofa, that they built a den on top of him.

One of my daughters actually got a certificate for “best effort in singing” last year from her teacher. She couldn’t win for “best singing” if you catch my drift. I mean, love the kid but…

Anyway, I might send her up to serenade him. Do you think that’s appropriate?

Ought to be ashamed of yourself for not sending her up already! What could be more precious to a bone weary father than being serenaded by his precious angel?!

Most definitely. I’m sure he’ll be very grateful that you’re all pitching in when he needs you. Maybe the other children could choreograph a nice dance routine to go with the beautiful singing.

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 16/04/2023 19:46

Perhaps a recorder accompaniment by another of the children?

CalpolDependant · 16/04/2023 19:47

She wants to sing “Green Green Grass” which I think is both touching and appropriate. And the right amount of upbeat.

She says she only knows the chorus, but I told her it doesn’t matter.

Not much other than a sibling with a recorder/violin...and a baby with a a lot of dribble & a hard you they like to bang on people!

SorePaw · 16/04/2023 19:47

You? Toy

The man is a Prince, or possibly a living god.

She'll definitely need to repeat the chorus about 20 times if that's the only bit she knows

declutteringmymind · 16/04/2023 19:49

Send the others to jump on his head.

CalpolDependant · 16/04/2023 19:49

I just really want to thank you all again for your support. It means so so much. I would be there for any of your husbands in the same way. Just know that.

I think, perhaps the DC should go and keep him company in his hour of need.

I agree

YesitsBess · 16/04/2023 19:50

OP would you like me to send you a vuvuzela? A lovely serenade for such a brave hero deserves a fanfare finalé.

That sounds perfect. He doesn’t want the whole thing anyway; a curated repetition of the bits she’s heard on tik tok will warm his heart.

In fact, the children could make a beautiful tik tok video of the moment. Sharing how they supported their father in his hour of need will warm the hearts of the whole internet, and exponentially increase his joy.

Poor thing, I'm sure he'll better rest under the patio though.

Grin
AcrossthePond55 · 16/04/2023 19:50

Poor precious baby. How did he manage to get home?

You know that diet is very important for recovery from exhaustion related illnesses. No steak and potatoes for him, oh no! Too taxing on the digestive system. I take it you know how to make milquetoast and blancmange? Perhaps with a Pedialyte chaser?

To show your devotion to him, please make the sacrifice of eating the steak and potatoes yourself. We mustn't waste food.

Goldbar · 16/04/2023 19:50

I don't want to be precipitate, OP, but maybe the time has come to put him out of his misery? Sometimes we keep them around just for ourselves when the kindest thing would be to let them go.

Skankylanky · 16/04/2023 19:50

Sounds like he needs slapping with a big wet fish.

HandbagsAtDawns · 16/04/2023 19:51

The poor lamb, I gave my hubbykins a lickle bell so that he could summon me whenever needed and I'd trot upstairs in my heeled fluffy mules to him
Is this something you could consider?
The poor man has been out out, brave thing and so lucky you appreciate the sacrifices he makes for you
God bless

Fam23 · 16/04/2023 19:51

🤣🤣 I pray that he makes it through the night without you suffocating him!

StaySpicy · 16/04/2023 19:51

I might be jumping the gun here, but has anyone ever nominated him for an honour? I think an MBE is the least they can do to recognise such a hero.

Münchner · 16/04/2023 19:51

Which two Cher songs did he do?

Flyingf1edgelings · 16/04/2023 19:52

Don’t make them like that anymore 🫡 your turn next weekend give the man a break for once! Rest easy Mr dependant 🤕

Skankylanky · 16/04/2023 19:52

I'm free for a vigorous ball kick to revive him if you're in Cambridgeshire.

MargotHeggerty · 16/04/2023 19:53

Quite frankly I can't believe your posting here on mumsnet about it when you should be by his side with a cold flannel at his brow

Do you have no respect for what this pinnacle of a specimen of man has been through

Whilst you have been having a jolly old weekend too.
