Help? I've acquired a very young kitten?

We've had a female cat visiting in the garden for about 7 months. We actually thought she belonged to someone but we discovered she had no home and was a stray. We were planning on catching her a couple of months ago but she disappeared. Anyway she reappeared and had a litter in my garden. Well I say litter. One kitten. Numerous attempts to catch her have all failed. She was happy to take food from anyone but would never let us touch her

Mum cat was found dead on the side of the road this morning. I feel so guilty as it is.

Anyway I've got the kitten inside. It's pissing it down. He's soaked. At a guess I'd say he's at most 6 weeks. He's been eating the food we've left for mum. He fits in the palm of my hand. I know nothing about cats really. Especially one this small

So I've booked him into the vets tomorrow. Earliest appointment

I have a 2 year old and a husband in bed from an appendicitis emergency.
So I'm on my own really

So questions
What do I do?
What do I feed him?
I've dried him with a towel and he's now all fuzzy but he's screaming murder

My 2 year old won't leave him alone but I can't split them cos she can't be left alone and he's like a tiny little thing. Any suggestions? Could I put him in a box for now? Just so he can sleep without being poked

Ok I don't know what to do.

No advice bit I'm just here to join @MissMaple82 who I think is just as jealous as me that she didn't find Peppa first.

May Peppa live a long and happy life with you all x

You may find it difficult to administer worm treatment after the 1st time - they catch on very quick!!
I squeeze the juice out of a tin of tuna and mix the precise dose into a bit of that to disguise the taste. Then syringe it in slowly slowly. They will often start lapping at it anyway, but if you're still struggling, insert the syringe into the side of the jaw, behind the canines, not between the front teeth as its easier that way.

SO.CUTE. Made my morning! Good luck at the vets xx

ipreferthecat · 21/10/2022 08:48

What a wonderful post to be following and the Op just has a delightfully descriptive way with words

It's almost like reading a lovely children story about Peppa the lost kitten

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 21/10/2022 08:50

Oh, he's totally adorable!

Hope vet appt. goes smoothly. Lucky Peppa to have found a loving family, after the trauma of losing his poor Mum.

Fuckallthetories · 21/10/2022 08:52

Remember when you said you weren’t keeping him? Pfft fat chance. Write a book called peppa finds a home. Pleaaaasse. Then write some more called adventures of peppa, peppa goes to the vets etc. it will be bestselling as all the mumsnetters will buy it.

softplayfail · 21/10/2022 08:54

@ipreferthecat I've had so many comments about my writing style. Thank you so much! I used to write as a child and teenager but I stopped..maybe I should pick it back up

@Fuckallthetories my tin heart must have melted. Plus my husband and toddler said yes and I'm clearly outnumbered. I've already lost the shoelaces in my shoes. Vets appointment shortly. I will let everyone know and I'm sure there'll be many cat photos and updates

For everyone's help I am truly grateful and I am falling in love with peppa.

Kittens are the best. Enjoy your new family member.

floridaplanner · 21/10/2022 09:19

Awwwww enjoy OP. Kittens are just the best. Anyone else planning to take a stroll round their garden to see if the kitten stork has left them any fuzzy babies?!

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 21/10/2022 09:51

Congrats on your new arrival. I accquired one in similar circumstances, friends didn't expect her to make it. That was a Thursday, friend visited again on Monday and was greeted by a very lively loving kitten who had spent the weekend tucked into my bra with her head sticking out. Safe and secure and warm with a heartbeat close by.

Aww! That's brought a tear to my eye.

Glad she's thriving now.

That tiny tail ! I think he is around five weeks, could be six.
What a sweet little kitten. Well done OP !

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 21/10/2022 10:12

She is so cute! I think Peppa is a girl. Isn’t it only girls who are that colouring? Or is that a myth? Anyway, she looks like a girl. I’m so glad she’s got you since she lost her mum.

Purring can also be a sign of distress and anxiety

There’s always one 🙄

I wondered that, but I think the colours are just tabby, not tortie, so could be either.
We’ll find out later 🙂

I love unexpected Peppa!

Theoldwoman · 21/10/2022 10:25

What a wonderful ending , I think he has a boys face, either way, he’s very cute!

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 21/10/2022 10:31

Why don't I ever find kittens? It's not fair!

Peppa is gorgeous, and I'm so glad he found you.

Dreamingof3 · 21/10/2022 10:34

@softplayfail another vote for a series of Peppa books! I think they'd be amazing!

Had a stray cat at work, she was pregnant 3x. Unable to catch her until July this year, she had 2 kittens. We did manage to tame her and she would come with her kittens. We fed them all, eventually we caught them all. The mum was pregnant again, the kittens went to homes. The mother cat went to a foster home to have her kittens.

We really need to set off to the vets
