Help? I've acquired a very young kitten?

We've had a female cat visiting in the garden for about 7 months. We actually thought she belonged to someone but we discovered she had no home and was a stray. We were planning on catching her a couple of months ago but she disappeared. Anyway she reappeared and had a litter in my garden. Well I say litter. One kitten. Numerous attempts to catch her have all failed. She was happy to take food from anyone but would never let us touch her

Mum cat was found dead on the side of the road this morning. I feel so guilty as it is.

Anyway I've got the kitten inside. It's pissing it down. He's soaked. At a guess I'd say he's at most 6 weeks. He's been eating the food we've left for mum. He fits in the palm of my hand. I know nothing about cats really. Especially one this small

So I've booked him into the vets tomorrow. Earliest appointment

I have a 2 year old and a husband in bed from an appendicitis emergency.
So I'm on my own really

So questions
What do I do?
What do I feed him?
I've dried him with a towel and he's now all fuzzy but he's screaming murder

My 2 year old won't leave him alone but I can't split them cos she can't be left alone and he's like a tiny little thing. Any suggestions? Could I put him in a box for now? Just so he can sleep without being poked

Ok I don't know what to do.

Looks like your cat has been "immortalised" on a TShirt Halloween Shock

Err OP, we haven't had a Peppa pic for almost 48 hours. It's unacceptable!

LeMoo · 30/10/2022 13:56

Getting withdrawal symptoms not having heard about her adventures

I agree. Totally unacceptable 🐾

Sorry guys! Daughter has been sick and is very angry at the entire world. Peppa is doing fine. He woke me up by sneezing into my eye so not too different from my toddler

That ear screams 'Another picture? Enough Already!!'.

And no, there will never be enough for Peppa's adoring fans. :)

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 30/10/2022 15:20

Of which I am one. Smile

He fell in the bath yesterday when my toddler was having a bath. She was absolutely thrilled. He was absolutely fuming and knocked over everything on his way out

They're hilarious when they fall in the bath. Did he do the cross foot twitch as he stalked off? S

Sorry Toddler is unwell :( hope she recovers soon - am sure Peppa will help.

softplayfail · 30/10/2022 15:27

@LeMoo a very angry foot twitch with exaggerated cleaning while glaring at the general world. I did try explaining that if I hadn't have taken him outside he'd be a lot wetter and probably not getting bigger. Didn't seem to help much

My kitten fell in the bath when I was a teen and legged it downstairs on to my dads lap to dry herself off.

My dad is not an animal person and hates cats. Yet even he didn’t shift the soaking wet cat off his lap despite being soaking wet himself.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 30/10/2022 15:30

Hope your DD is better soon as well.

Peppa has character coming out of every pore. Wait until you annoy him and he stalks off with the 'fuck you flick' of the tail in your direction. You will deffo know it when you see it. We had a beautiful cat with a very - ahem- strong -character and once when she was being particularly trying I (gently) threw her out the front door. At which point I discovered she could do the 'fuck you flick' mid-air!

LeMoo · 30/10/2022 15:49

@softplayfail 😆

My rescue kitten was always a sneezy cat so I used to get woken up with a face sneeze fairly regularly. Worst though was always when she climbed up my chest purring mad and looked at me, seemingly ready to snuggle and gaze at me adoringly before releasing a blast of droplets across my face

Toddlerteaplease · 30/10/2022 15:57

Cheddar is also a sneezy cat. I frequently get the full facial. She's also a very dribbley cat when she's happy, so I get that as well. She got me straight in the eye the other day. Thanks girl.

Beautiful kitty

Trying to cook Sunday dinner with a velcro toddler and a velcro kitten definitely should be on the next Olympics. Anyone know who I can write to to suggest this? I mean I have very little interest in watching someone swim but I would watch that.

So far I've said

Darling I don't think Peppa likes carrots, no no shoving them up his nose won't change his mind
No Peppa you do not want to play with that
No darling Peppa is fine where he is, do not pick him up and try to put him in the washing machine.
Peppa why are you in the washing machine?

My husband came in and I said can you help by taking them out? He took Peppa and left the toddler. Cheers, love you too.

Can Peppa have chicken from our dinner or is that a no no?

OP posts:
LeMoo · 30/10/2022 16:34

Lol chicken from your dinner is fine and will make up for the recent dunking

LeMoo · 30/10/2022 16:35

Cats in washing machines and tumble driers makes my blood run cold - heard too many horror stories! Please, always check it before using it!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/10/2022 16:35

Peppa needs an observation post in the kitchen that's out of her reach. It's how you don't teach the toddler that cooking involves shouting 'well, you shouldn't have been under my feet in the first place' and crying over dropped roasties all over the floor.

Mine have two places - one is on top of the tumble dryer where he can observe the goings on around the hob without sustaining injury to body or more importantly potatoes and the other is a shelf that enables direct supervision of the slow cooker.

softplayfail · 30/10/2022 16:36

@LeMoo definitely! The door is usually shut when toddlers pottering about. I will always check when putting a load on

OP posts:
LeMoo · 30/10/2022 16:39

@NeverDropYourMooncup you've reminded me, I had a cat once who's party trick was to wind himself around your feet like a snake just at the point you were moving a boiling pan - so many near misses!

Soubriquet · 30/10/2022 16:40

Chicken is absolutely fine for Peppa to eat.

Dh is out of order though. He should have taken both toddler and kitten. Not just kitten
