... and so I'm bringing you four days of celebrations in Playmoland. Today is King Athelstan's birthday parade. The route has been lined with bunting.

What a tribute to King Athestan. So nice to see Playmo people turning out to salute the day. Just like the film John and Julie.

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 09/06/2022 08:43

It was lovely to see Kylie the lifeguard again too. Thank you so much OP ! 💐

I think King Athelstan should reward your efforts with at least a Damehood 👸💎

SoMuchToBits · 09/06/2022 13:55

Thank you! Not sure I'll be getting a Damehood though! Grin

Hope you’re doing well @SoMuchToBits , are you considering a Playmobil people version of recent/related events, like the coronation? Just wanted to post to say if you did do it, I would appreciate it as a form of art for the significance of the occasion.

ColeensBoot · 09/09/2022 22:05

Me too!

SettingsO · 09/09/2022 22:49

I think yes to the coronation, but no to the funeral

petalpower · 10/09/2022 00:47

@SoMuchToBits has asked me to let you know that she’s on holiday at the moment but is unable to post and respond to your messages. She will be back tomorrow evening!

Oblomov22 · 10/09/2022 06:23

I was thinking about her. Thinking she's post great stuff right now!
@SoMuchToBits We can wait! Wink

Camdenish · 10/09/2022 09:25

It’s a public service you do @SoMuchToBits , a pure public service.

Isausernameavailable · 10/09/2022 23:41

No, it wouldn't be appropriate for either funeral or coronation

SoMuchToBits · 11/09/2022 16:51

Hello, sorry for my absence, have only just got back from holiday, and didn't have much internet access.

A coronation would be lovely, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to kill off King Athelstan. So unless he decides to abdicate...

Also, a funeral might be quite difficult. I do have a coffin with a glass lid (from the Snow White set), but no hearse, and it would be difficult to get everyone wearing black, as most of the Playmo people can't change their clothes.

But thanks for the ideas! Smile

I agree that maybe not the religious events (funeral and coronation), but things like the proclamations are process and for “proclaiming”. Maybe it could be flashbacks to King Athelstan’s accession!

Or like a vow renewal.

FuzzyPuffling · 11/09/2022 19:28

Although looking at your username BakeOffRewatch maybe a reality TV programme could come to Playmoland?

NiqueNique · 11/09/2022 19:33

@SoMuchToBits Maybe a general Royal Remembrance and Memorial thread could be a better idea?

Given the momentous nature of this historical event I personally think it would strike a better note - and if you (just this once) changed names to actually reflect the Royal Family, you wouldn’t have to permanently kill off any of the Playmoland characters we all know and love...

BakeOffRewatch · 11/09/2022 19:51

Up to you @SoMuchToBits , I know you put a lot of hard work in to these and you said they take a lot of planning. I thought of this thread, because the last royal event I followed The Playmobil people and at the time I took it for granted we’d see another form of celebration with the Queen.

NiqueNique · 11/09/2022 20:03

Definitely don’t feel obligated to do any thread(s) at alll @SoMuchToBits! Flowers You weren’t to know, and so you couldn’t have made any plans or had any ideas mapped out.

However if you did want to do something another idea could be just a retrospective of some of your favourite images from previous threads over the years (if you still have the photographs handy). It would be lovely to look back on happier times in a gentle thread.

Camdenish · 11/09/2022 20:42

I feel quite bad “calling” you now Somuch.

You can’t kill off the Playmo king, and I think they’ve still got the tea drinking PM (Norman?). I don’t want him to go!

And Playmo isn’t “our” Royal Family although I think they’re related. I’d love to see a family tree.

SoMuchToBits · 11/09/2022 22:31

Ah, we do still have Norman the Foreman, the tea drinking PM! He's here to stay I think.

We do have a Playmo royal family tree. But it's quite different from the British one (with a few similarities). Intentionally a bit different, so no-one can accuse me of completely basing our characters on the British royal family.

I'm not sure what I can do to reflect the current situation without having to kill off King Athelstan though. I guess Playmoland is one of those places where things are more constant and the bad things don't happen. I wish I lived there.

I know what you mean @SoMuchToBits. That’s the thing we all love about Playmoland! ❤️

SoMuchToBits · 12/09/2022 00:12

Thank you @NiqueNique yes, it's a weird time. I'll be watching the funeral when it's on. It will be the only time I've seen the funeral of a UK monarch. The same for most people I guess.

Perhaps your wonderfully happy people could plant a memorial garden full of flowers and trees to commemorate the passing a revered and much loved cousin... Thank you for your time and imagination - such a jolly 🪡

ChessieFL · 12/09/2022 07:06

You could do a flashback to King Athelstan’s coronation.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/09/2022 07:37

SoMuchToBits I want to live in Playmoland too.
I want Apollo to steal my sausages!

SoMuchToBits · 12/09/2022 10:37

I expect the real coronation will be next year, so maybe that will give me time to plan something. A platinum jubilee of the coronation perhaps. I was going to do a summer holiday theme this year (in August), but my lovely BIL passed away in July, and I haven't really been in the right frame of mind for it. So I might do that next year as well.
