What's the broken thing in your house that everyone just puts up with?

I'll start. We have a three legged Henry Hoover, and any time anyone hoovers you hear lots of banging and "fuck offs" as it falls over every 3 seconds. It's been like it for five years and rather than replacing it we all have just grown to accept our disabled Henry.

What's that broken thing in your house that everyone just accepts and lives with, despite how annoying it may be? I feel every family must have one Grin

Me!

Bonheurdupasse · 10/01/2022 19:12

Ensuite shower door...hanging on at 45 degree angle:(

Mogloveseggs · 10/01/2022 19:12

Toaster. It's a 4 slice but only one side works so it's a 2 slice. Bloody annoying as it was bought so Dh could make his breakfast quicker (he has 3 slices of toast for breakfast) but as 2 slots still work it lives on. It does have a big note on the broken side so the dc don't use it.

PickAChew · 10/01/2022 19:13

Tiled kitchen floor that looks like someone has taken a hammer to it. Can't take it up and replace it without ripping out the whole kitchen. That's a project a long way down the list.

HeyUpits2022 · 10/01/2022 19:13

The panel on the side of the bath.

Unfortunately it only attacks in the middle of the night when you're stumbling in to the bathroom for a midnight wee.

I "you feckin thing" it at least once a week, and am very surprised to still have my little toe on my left foot.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 10/01/2022 19:14

Everything. The cold shower, the dripping kitchen tap, the plaster falling off the wall, the drawer fronts that fall off when you open them. One day it will be nicer!

OneMoreWish · 10/01/2022 19:14

Toilet hinge on toilet upstairs is loose. As we have toilet downstairs it doesn't get used much. Tried tightening in past and hadn't worked . Every time anyone uses it slightest movement ( normally to reach toilet roll ) causes it to slide slightly and then the little legs on the seat come off the toilet bowl rim and it bangs down an inch slightly jolting/ panicking you each time. Been like that about three years and it's on the list of things to get done around the house

TupilaLilium · 10/01/2022 19:17

Bathroom light on a string. You have to pull the string between 1 and 500 times for it to catch and the light comes on.

catwomandoo · 10/01/2022 19:19

@Yebbie we had a 3 legged Henry. We eventually bought him a mew wheel. Took a few years, mind. Grin

vodkaginwine · 10/01/2022 19:19

The shower and the heating. Both are fucked. We now have electric heaters plugged in where needed and baths instead because I refuse to give another penny for a workman to say they can fix the issue but can’t. If anyone can recommend a genius at fixing both in Kent, send them my way.

LoveAndBeSilent · 10/01/2022 19:22

Oven door 🥴 has to be slammed and wedged shut with a kitchen chair, has been broken for over a year!

isthismylifenow · 10/01/2022 19:22

I have a soup ladle with half a handle. The top half broke off. I bought a new one to replace it but everyone still uses the half handled one. It's just bigger, better and scoops better.

Northernsoullover · 10/01/2022 19:24

I have an ancient hotpoint tumble dryer. The glass falls out of the door so to use it you have to hold the glass firmly against the rubber seal and close it with the other hand. While it's still working I'm not getting a new one. They don't make them like that any more

JorisBonson · 10/01/2022 19:26

The hot and cold on the kitchen tap is the wrong way round. We're just used to it now

ooherrmissus14 · 10/01/2022 19:27

It was the bath panel in our bathroom until our cat learned that if he sat on his back paws and banged on it with his front paws it sounded like one of those massive drums you get in an orchestra. Lovely being woken up by that at 3am every day. It had been broken for years but took just two months of our percussionist cat to force us to get it replaced.....

Ancientdreams · 10/01/2022 19:27

Dodgy flush. It only works if you press the knob quickly at the top. Otherwise it gets stuck and makes a whooshing sound for hours.

Also the freezer door needs a quick after opening.

Ancientdreams · 10/01/2022 19:27

Meant to say, the freezer door needs a kick after opening.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/01/2022 19:28

Love the disabled Henry Grin

We have a dishwasher that you can only open by pulling on the side of the door as the handle has snapped and fallen off. Grin

Bordois · 10/01/2022 19:29

The toilet seat/lid. Think the fixing is loose as whenever I sit on the loo the toilet lid falls down and hits my back

Every. Single. Time 😒

Fabuleuse · 10/01/2022 19:29

I've only had two rings working on my hob for over two years!

MrsPear · 10/01/2022 19:29

Toilet seat. It moves around and won’t tighten. It’s the only toilet - shock horror - and being the only female I’m the most annoyed but still not got round to replacing it.

My toilet seat has been like this for about 6 months, I think the threads must have gone because I can't tighten it anymore and have admitted defeat and that we need a new one. However until I get my arse into gear and actually order one we'll continue to wonder which side the toilet will throw you when we use it, though we have got quite good at balancing now, sometimes the crafty bugger catches you by surprise and attempts to dump you on the floor.
Huntswomanonthemove · 10/01/2022 19:30

Nothing my DH loves fixing things. He's a keeper.

Serena1977 · 10/01/2022 19:30

kitchen window chipped with a few cracks. DH flicked up a stone with the lawn mower whilst walking towards said window, despite me asking him to do the lawn across ways.

StillMedusa · 10/01/2022 19:30

The tumble dryer door... has to be shut repeatedly until it decides to stay closed..but it was second hand about 6 years ago so I can't really moan!

Downstairs wet room... the whole sodding room. Shower is rubbish, the wet room floor doesn't drain into the hole as it's meant to and as it now turns out the toilet water pipe has been leaking into the floor under the flooring for years... currently on week 4 of running fans and a dehumidifyer constantly so it can be refloored (thank god for insurance!
It was built using a disabled facilities grant for our ds2 and so the local council chose the builders... I guess they were the cheap ones Angry
